Do we know the next time there's going to be double VIP points?

Usually in October. But who knows this year.

What could it be? They say while stocks last so it is not an amazing new downloadable wallpaper. So presumably an amazing new coloured print of the shoes?

A chance to win shoes signed by someone you never heard!

Thanks, there are two things coming tomorrow...

1] the new sweepstake will be to win a pair of the shoes.
2] some pairs will be available to "buy" with VIP points 15,600 per pair.. so approx £100 a pair.

I wonder if that means they won’t sell quite so ‘immediately’ as the smaller promotions. The signed Harry Potter sets didn’t last long so I keep thinking I should save my points for a Star Wars equivalent.

That's not bad, as it's the same price as getting them directly from Adidas. If I had enough points, I'd put them towards a pair.

Thirty five years ago with a stonewashed denim jacket, a pair of s**t stoppers, some big sheets of cardboard and a boombox loaded up with Chaka Khan, I still couldn't have carried those off.

It's not even that. Like... where would you wear them these days? Nightclubs are closed. Parties are forbidden. You don't put on a pair of designer kicks to go shopping or out to dinner.

How will they deal with the variety of shoe sizes? I guess a variety of completely different shoe products for the different sizes?

If I was going to buy them i’d want to know I could buy the size that fits me. I’m neither confirming not unconfirming whether I would actually consider buying a pair.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,558
Given my experience buying shoes, I can’t understand how anyone would buy shoes you can’t try on first.

What’s the next GWP anyone please?

I’ve got the elf house in my shopping trolley but this year I’m refusing to budge until a decent GWP comes along!

    Thanks

Oct 15 you can get a free mini Mindstorms robot set with $100 purchase. Not sure if the date for that is worldwide or not. It looks like a lot of pieces but the subject matter isn't really grabbing my attention.

If you read back the last 50 comments or so you will see they are getting the results they probably wanted: Spending points on raffles, hoarding points in fear of missing out on a great offer in the future, pretty much anything that isn't a cash reward is a plus to them. I even threw away 50 points because I really want a Phoenix minifig so it worked on me too even though I swore it wouldn't.

Also making the points ridiculous sums that are hard to keep track of and don't correlate easily to real money also make it anti-consumer.

Us size 11 freaks can't even enter the sweepstakes. Discrimination!

I'd been umming and ahhing about getting them - purely to sell on. I'd finally decided not to bother. I'd be pretty gutted to have blown £100 of heard-earned VIP points on some ugly shoes that were way too small and were now only worth about £60 before ebay fees. I guess even if they end up being worth £5000, the fact that they sold out so quick probably means I wouldn't have been able to get them anyway.

The ones that were on ebay with bids this morning weren't going for loads. Something like a day of bidding left though. Someone posted an article about this range of Adidias trainers and it isn't like the range in general is super popular even with sneakerheads.

Maybe you stand a higher chance in the sweepstake if you go for really small or really big sizes? UK size 6 seems pretty small for an adult!
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
It is a shame that they don't do things like T-shirts. They could do the traditional colours - Black, White, Yellow, Red and Blue - each plain with a simple LEGO logo on the front. I'd save my points and go for one of each. And I'd even wear them! Resale value would probably be low and stocks relatively constant.

    Uniqlo did some nice ones.
  • Mr_CrossMr_Cross Member Posts: 1,713
I'd love to see a new range of official LEGO T-shirts, totally agree with @CCC's suggestion. I also love to see other LEGO icons done, some have been done before, like the Classic Moon logo, I'd love to have another one of those since mine wore out...
I still wish they'd done the MilF logo on a Black T-shirt, it wouldn't even have needed to be exclusive to the black card VIPs, I'd just have liked the opportunity to buy one.

Not as VIP rewards though. And the point here is that you can buy similar items already, which keeps the exclusivity out of it. For example, they could do exclusive and limited edition (say 1000) T-shirts with a specific VIP print and they'd go within minutes / hours to anyone with enough points on the day they were released and end up as investments. Whereas do a fairly plain LEGO logo one and it would not be something that goes to 10x the value within minutes of release and therefore is something that people can slowly save points towards and exchange their points maybe six months after they originally saw it as a reward. That is, make it a rewards scheme where you know the rewards and collect towards them rather than a bit of a lottery scheme, where you have to collect points in advance and hope you get lucky checking the rewards page at precisely the right time and day.

Of course, you could just buy form a place like uniqlo and use the VIP as money off LEGO purchases, but that is what LEGO already did and there was little point to the new rewards scheme.

It nuked mine, needed to get my account deleted and reïnstated, new VIP number etc. Whole kerfuffle.

    Heard it works again indeed.

It does work again. Almost too well. I bought two codes and complained about them not working and after about two weeks I got a reply that the promotion was not meant to have started yet. I don't know what promotion they were talking about, but they also refunded my points. But before I got the reply, I had tried again and they both worked fine. I placed two orders and they worked. But I cannot remove the last code from my account. I placed a third order and it again worked adding a keychain automatically although I have not received the order yet so I don't know if it will actually come.

I agree regarding the sweepstakes and the rare limited quantity items, but I do like being able to get actual bricks in sets like the Creator Fountain, the VW Beetle GWP, etc...

@Pate5346 it was in earlier part of this thread, there was a bug where as soon as you added the code it wiped your account and needed a full Lego side rebuild for some people.

By you (and others) saying it worked for you answers my question, as in the "nuking" was a couple of weeks ago so i've waited a while so they would fix it as wasn't in any rush.

hmm I think that is a good point actually... maybe I should enter just for fun if I have a higher chance. Technically I am UK size 6 and adult! Because I am size 8 in US women's which is 6.5 in US men's which apparently is 6 in UK...

Yesterday I observed every European online retailer offering the Adidas LEGO shoe swiftly crash and/or sell out during the midnight release, and today US online retailers encountered a similar fate at 10am EST.

Did people purchase for the purpose of wearing?  Or was it just a bunch of speculators buying for a quick flip?  Anyone's guess...

I may be in the minority, but I love the shoe.  Since I didn't have quite enough VIP points, I managed to purchase a pair today and can't wait to sport them at SDCC 2021, or whenever Comic-Con decides to make their glorious return.

Confusion is my normal state of affairs, but not confusion as to why someone else would collect a ubiquitous home good item that many would consider value-less past their intended manufactured use.

Now, permit me to go back to hoarding street roadplates.

I have a feeling road plates, if they go somewhere, will be back. Especially if the rumored cost of the new system is true.
