Yeah, stupid me! Especially so considering I bought a second #6861 for the parts! I'm thinking of doing #6861 in all the various Space color schemes, inspired by your #918 variants. Plus one in white, teal, medium azure, and magenta- for Sweet Mayhem! (that gif is awesome!)

Okay, now I remember reading your review- I even commented on it! This has been an... eventful... year.

I'm sure you've seen @KungFuKenny's Blacktron #6861 here. More gushing... I've got so many recolours/re-themes I'd love to do. In a box somewhere, I've got about 50% of a moc Classic Space Slave I I've been working on here and there for about two years!

@Mr_Cross #6901 was a limited release? Interesting! The box says ©1979, but it's in my catalogs (US versions) for 1980, '81, '82, and '83!
Aye, limited to United States and Canada! It wasn't available in europe and I didn't know about it at all until about 2003. I did not know it was available for so long, I'd thought it was only around for a short while! I'm thinking that means they were struggling to shift the stock. It is a pretty ugly an aquired taste, so it's hardly surprising.
I think it's a fantastic set though, look what they did with so few pieces! Stop me before I start gushing about it again.
Here is the one I have on display at my office...

Back on topic- I’ve looked at almost all of the sets from ‘80 to ‘87 and there are none I can find from any theme that have 6 or 8 arms coming off of the side.  I briefly thought of these two

but they don’t fit the description well.  My guess is that the time frame is wrong or the OP is mis-remembering what the set looked like.  I’ll keep looking at later years but nothing has come up as of yet...

Me too....I spent a while searching and couldn't find anything, but did find https://www.backoftheboxbuilds.com which has brought back a lot of memories!

Someone mentioned Tente too and I found https://www.latenteteca.com/modelos/?serie=Astro and thought they had some cool builds (oops did I say that out loud?)

If I had a time machine... I'd go back and save the back of every LEGO box I ever had! And I'd take better care of the instructions.

If I had a time machine I'd go back and make sure I got two copies of every set I had, and make sure one set was never unboxed and went somewhere safe and secure!

I'd also get #928 (Space cruiser) and #6399 (Airport Shuttle)....actually I'd buy two copies of both!

One of the more reliable methods is to search by dimension in “brick” units. So, 3x3x2 for that piece.

I appreciate everyone's input and feedback and tips thus far.  Unfortunately, my search continues as none of the suggested sets match what I remember having.  It's not the mobile lab because it doesn't have the skinny legs nor the small wheels at the bottom.  I remember my toy had the puffy wheels just like Surface Explorer.  It's not the Sonic Robot nor the Alien Moon stalker.  It can't be a set from after 1989 because I was in my early years of elementary school when I had this toy.  (I was in 6th grade in 1989).  Are there any variants of the Surface Explorer?  Any alternate builds for it, or for another set that has those extendable arms?
  • gelkstergelkster Member Posts: 927
^^^^ so the only thing to do now is see which sets that style of wheel appears in, & that should end this mystery.

These are all the sets from '78 to '89:
    https://brickset.com/sets/query-5532

Here are all the sets with the bubble tyres:

As you say, it's not #6880 and it's not #1580 because that doesn't have any arms, but most of the other candidates from the 'Space' sets with bubble wheels are more blue than grey...

Here, again, are all the sets with the wiggly, bendable "extending" arms:
    https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3612&in=S

We have to assume that over the 20 years that the databases here on Brickset and over at Bricklink have developed, all the official LEGO sets will have been catalogued and documented.

I don't know what else to say. I honestly want to help, but right now, I have to say that your recollection of this being an official LEGO set is most likely incorrect. Perhaps it's an alternate model within a set, but I haven't seen anything like it on https://www.backoftheboxbuilds.com/ that @jason1976 linked to (great find by the way!).

I have searched other major brands of the time, most notable for the era, as suggested previously, Tyco and Tente to no avail. As always, I'm very much prepared to be proven wrong and furthermore would be delighted to be enlightened to the existence of a new Classic Space LEGO set.

    Good luck in your quest.

I have just been given a lot of star wars lego and wondered if anyone was able to help identify the sets.

You will get some quick responses if you post in this thread...
    https://forum.brickset.com/discussion/513/master-thread-help-identifying-parts-sets-andminifigs#latest

off the cuff you have a Yoda Starfighter #75168  and some mini builds from the 2015 SW advent calendar #75097 ... if you type landspeeder and snow speeder search terms in to Bricklink you can browse and see exactly which ones you have of those...

I'm afraid to say that I think @Mr_Cross has hit the nail on the head here....

Mention of the balloon style wheels made me think it could possibly be an alternate model built from #1593 but this isn't on back of the box builds and a quick search of the instructions doesn't show an alternate build, and none of the pics of the box I can find show any.

It may well be something you built yourself from parts from several sets?

Time does play tricks on the mind, I know that full well as when I started putting sets back together from a big box containing my late 70s / early 80s Lego collection I worked out I had sets that I could not remember having. And strangely had some unique pieces from sets I never had!

Anyway good luck with your quest - if you do find it let us know what it was!

Can the experts id this torso?

@lnong, one last thought I had was that perhaps looking through some period correct catalogs Sears & JCPenney et al. might help find something akin to your description?
There is a wealth of the old catalogs here on wishbook.com and although it's not the best interface, there are some delights to behold if you can be bother trawling through!

In a casual "flip" through a Sears Wishbook I did find another brand, "loc blocs" and they had a space range too, known as "space raider" that theme looks like it was circa 1984. IMO it all looks very similar to classic space. I did a quick google search that threw up some promising looking models but again, sadly, I drew a blank... is it worth considering these other (non LEGO) brands?

From left to right: Juno Eclipse, Mix of parts (see note below), ACU from Jurassic World,  Grand Moff Tarkin.

The TIE pilot seems to be a mish mash of parts including Imperial Ground Crew torso. Someone else might be able to add more detail before I get chance to look in more depth.
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,244
The "TIE pilot" has the torso and legs from either Imperial Ground Crew Technician from set #75154, or Jyn Erso Imperial Ground Crew Disguise from set #75171. I think the helmet is from #75211 Imperial TIE Fighter.

Kanjiklub Gang Member (Star Wars Episode VII) and Barry (helps Owen with the raptor wrangling in Jurassic World).

Barry is from quite a rare and desirable set (albeit not for him specifically, more to do with the raptors) so worth almost $15 at the moment. I think his head is rare in terms of populating a collection with more ethnicities.
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,244
The top one (with the eyepatch) is Kanjiklub Gang Member, from #75105.
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,244
The other is Barry, from #75920.

Just to be clear, I know this is an old 2x3 brick 🙂 — I wanted to see if you guys had seen the upside-down logo on an older brick like this before... is this a common occurrence or fluke?  I would think that the mold would have to have been cast that way, meaning there are probably lots of these out there...

I think I remember seeing pictures of bricks with logos facing in various directions. I'm sure it was here, since I seldom get Lego information anywhere else.

If I remember correctly, Gary Istok said they are fairly common in the US because Lego would send Samsonite old worn out molds from Denmark and Samsonite would retool them backwards sometimes.

Was wondering if anyone knows which watch this is? Seems to be most similar to an employee special from 2016 but the hand colors differ and the date on the employee doesnt look like it has the day of the week.

They’re all Star Wars released between 2012 and 2014.
    - Jabba’s Palace #9516
    - Desert Skiff #9496
    - Sith Fury-class Interceptor #9500
    - Mandalorian Speeder #75022
    - AT-RT #75002
    - General Grievous’ Wheel Bike #75040

The Sith Fury is probably pretty sought after.

The flat panel in the bottom right looks like the palace door

Recently I bought a mixed lot of sets and found this in it. Is it LEGO? If yes from which set(s) could it be?

I do not want to throw it away like I did with this from the same lot:

Fortunately I could buy a new one to make 7249 complete.
