    Dang nabbit!
I hope all the critical design elements are created around parts that have been out of production since the early '90s! Maybe some Aquazone columns to offset some space window panels? Bonus points for rendering them in colors that never existed.
When I digital MOC I generally don't care about the pieces used. I'll use substitutes when possible, but not if it inhibits any artistic expression or play function. I will however, use valid colors, so any builds can theoretically be built even if it used rare/expensive parts (which is why I ranted about Stud.io having color issues). But I also don't plan on posting anything like that on Ideas either.

Lego needs to make a molded hamburger bun. How will minifigs have proper barbecues?

-Companion apps being the opposite end of this spectrum. Sets for kids should not incorporate companion apps, as, odds are parents want to get LEGO to get their kids away from screens, than back on them.

I disagree here. There are plenty of themes where apps are not built into the theme. If parents don't want kids using screen time, then they can avoid those themes. I hope LEGO does continue to evolve technology in some of their themes. To deny kids modern play in all themes is not necessary.

-LEGO is missing out on the made-to-order side of things, and can capitalize on it, by bringing back recently retired sets (with clear aftermarket popularity) that still meet quality standards. D2Cs, Architecture, and Technic being clear examples of themes that can take serious advantage of it. It ruins rarity and aftermarket, sure, but how this isn't already a thing, I have no idea.

I also disagree here. LEGO owns BL and BL provides this service. I think there would likely be a backlash if they attempted to screw over the secondary market. Plus longer term it would be bad for customers and collectors too, as LEGO would not keep all sets on possible order and if they have killed off the secondary market, then sellers won't have saved stocks of older sets either.

It would also be relatively easy to break it if secondary market sellers worked together. If certain parts are targeted, then wiping out LEGO's entire stock of particular parts would be possible. That would mean LEGO has to keep reacting and producing more of those specific parts with the associated timelines, whether they are needed for the primary market or not.

yeah I was just taking a jab at some of the high profile Ideas projects that rely heavily on elements out of print. I forget if it made it to 10k yet or not but there was a brilliant train station project that leaned heavily on out of print elements and recolors to the point it would need almost a complete overhaul to be put into production.

I wish it was easier for more smaller/midsize projects on Ideas to get traction as they are full of potential and easier price points to swallow as a consumer. It is hard for them to compete against the visual wow of the huge mocs on there though. And I say that as someone who gets sucked into voting for huge mocs even knowing it probably won't happen. Also Castle. I try to vote anything decent Castle in hopes of more Castle.

This printed part from the Scooby-Doo range is perfect. Add a 2x2 round plate in dark brown and a tan tile underneath and you have a burger. Only came four of the Scooby sets though

The sitcom-based Ideas sets are awful. Similarly, LEGO Ideas should not allow licensed ideas whatsoever.

LEGO makes way too many sets all coming out at the same time. The large AFOL-oriented sets are being announced like once a month now and I've become numb to them.

I dislike Hidden Side's aesthetic. It's got a lot of good ideas but the actual sets and graphic design don't do much for me. I also hate how most of the ghosts are only in the app.

Having a massive collection of stock sets is not impressive.

Oh, and limited editions, limited "chase" CMFs, and convention exclusives should not be a thing. Scarcity is always manufactured and upsets way more people than it makes happy.

Plus, as they already do lots of non-licensed sets themselves, they should not allow any non-licensed IDEAS either. So no licensed and no non-licensed sets though IDEAS.

Until I noticed the tweezers, I thought that sticker was so off-centre that it was on the box flap instead of the part.

Ideas has lost its way. It's become a vehicle for space sets and licenses. Though I suppose it has been the whole time going back to Hayabusa and Minecraft. The best Ideas sets are the non-licensed ones: Fishing Store, Maze (though flawed execution), and IMO the best of the whole line, Birds.

Full disclosure: I LOVE the Saturn V

Well, I've waffled a bit on whether or not to post this as I'm not sure I can stand the ridicule. But, seeing as the whole point of this thread is UNpopular opinions, I decided to pull the trigger.

I'm not bothered by the "S" being put at the end of Lego.

There, I said it! Flame away!

I get it. It's not proper. It's incorrect. It's not the right way to write it or speak it. It's wrong.

    And. I. Don't. Care.

I feel like there is sense among some (and only some) of the AFOL community that they are out to police all things Lego. To the point of belittling others at times because they're not enlightened enough. Or, something? There have been a few occasions, even on these forums, where a new member has introduced themselves as either just discovering Lego or just getting back into it. They say something like, "I just got back into legos and I'm so excited!" Only to be followed by a post that says, "...drop the s..." Instead of welcoming a new member into the community, it seems like they are wanting to push them away, or put them in their place for not knowing the rules of AFOL Lego.

I've typed a bunch more to go with this and deleted it several times and have decided to leave it at this. I know it's Lego. I say Lego. I type Lego. I think Lego. But, when it comes down to it, the "s" just really isn't a big deal for me.
I think it's out of a profound appreciation for the company and their trademark? I've not researched it (so I may be repeating quite incorrect informatiin here), but the common assumption was that the misuse of the brand name 'LEGO' to describe interlocking bricks themselves jeopardizes the company's claim to the trademark on the name? Lego themselves go to great lengths to make the distinction.
I'm not about to lecture a chld on misusing the name, but I do kind of expect functioning adults immersed in the hobby to be able to make this minor adjustment in their behavior. I don't think it's a huge ask from fans.

^ YEAH! What he said! Or maybe we should start correcting or ridiculing anyone who doesn't use LEGO's color names, or part names. Would you like that? "Cheese slope? What are you talking about? Do you mean a Roof Tile 1x1x2/3, Abs.?"

There is some slight bit of truth to the notion that the mark might become less valuable, but really not that they cannot protect the mark itself from other parties' use. Kleenex, for example, has become the colloquialism for tissue, which in some ways makes the brand less valuable, but another brand still couldn't ever call their product "Kleenex" because that is a protected mark. Same with "Xerox". As long as "LEGO" uses the mark, it will be protected, even if it potentially loses value from overuse as a general term for plastic building blocks.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. As I mentioned, I believe in the "mission" as well of helping Lego distinguish themselves from other brick brands. But, to @autolycus point, "Lego" is already interchangeable in the hearts and minds of most non-AFOLs. At least in my experience. When I review local Facebook Marketplace sales, Offer Up, etc..., I constantly find people selling "Lego" that are clearly off-brands. Do they care? Not one little bit.

For AFOLs, or those rediscovering something after a long time away, I feel they are already aware of the distinction. And those that aren't will likely, through time and exposure, almost certainly come to understand the difference between Lego and Legos. So, within the AFOL community, to single out someone for their use of the "s" doesn't seem to promote anything other than a sense of, "I know more than you." Again, to me personally.

    Unpopular :)

I'm particular about grammar and terminology, but only inasmuch as it reflects on myself. I'll stick hard and fast to "LEGO is to be used as a modifier and meant to be capitalized", but am I ever gonna bother someone else about it? Heck no. I only trifle with my own grammar unless my input is invited.

LEGO IDEAS is a bit of a popularity contest, the way things work now. It's fun to try, but things get abused, and some projects never get visibility. Especially if unlicensed. Like my violin. Or (soon to be) my Merchant's Hideaway.

That is the whole point of IDEAS. They want to create new sets that will be popular. It is not a contest to find and hire new designers.

If Newbury High isn't to your liking, maybe keep an eye on the Friends line. They've done some nice schools over the years, so hopefully they'll revisit that. I doubt we'll ever see a school as nice as Newbury High again anytime soon though. Or there's always Hogwarts, if you want to send your Lego kids off to magical prep school.
I'll def agree on the farm! A Lego farm would be brilliant! They could release it gradually, with each set hilighting different aspects of a farm (like a dairy, chicken coop, etc). A Lego barn and silo build would be freaking amazing! :)

Just want to clearify and say: design wise I love most HS sets, especially the school, just dont want them in my city set up.

Thanks for the tip, I usually buy the smaller friends sets spontaneously, but have overlooked the larger ones (guessing a school would belong to this size of set). Will check’em out.

    Im up for gradual releases!!!

Friends has had two supermarkets in the past five years, plus there have been some smaller store fronts in Creator. Alternatively, just get some crates to fill with fruits and a few cereal boxes or similar to put on shelves and a till, and you can easily convert any building into a grocery.
Great idea about looking at creator smaller storefronts. Im slowly getting there: looking at green grocer instructions, ill check on the friends line and the creator line and combine it with some tips/building sinaoiearions from a few youtubers like Smallbrik city and Zabadak.

Im feeling more and more excited about MOCing and modding, less scared and overwhelmed. Thats a big step for me 🤓🤪

I just wish they would make NASA a theme/license/whatever and then just block NASA projects from moving forward in Ideas. Clearly anything NASA is going to be popular and no longer needs fan votes to prove it. Ideas should be for new ideas.

I have a bunch of Belville raised baseplates that take up so much space but I don't think I'll ever use them in mocs. And the size makes shipping a pain. But I can't bring myself to just bin them. First world problems, eh?

I will always keep my Pharaoh's Quest pyramid and Ice station odyssey raised baseplates though!

Think this is mainly in the US, I only ever heard them called tissues where I was in the UK but we always called tape Sellotape after the brand so swings and roundabouts. Likewise I'd never seen or heard of a sharpie until I was in my 20s, we always said permanent marker but I only hear sharpie in the US.

I only have about 20 sets that are built because I prefer minifigs, always have.

I don't like posts that only mention sets by number, there's no way I'm  learning all of them or clicking on that many links.

Castle and pirates over space every time.

Doesn't matter how many pieces it has I'd much rather have an
X-wing or Tie fighter than a Millennium falcon.

I think the minecraft game looks terrible anyway so the so the sets are an easy pass.

Thanks! Yeah, my stance on Classic Space is definitely an unpopular opinion! Not sure why it didn`t resonate with me as a kid. I did have the Alienator set #6876, and loved the whole Black assassin look of the minifigure.

I always love seeing your Minecraft work. I should share some of the work that I have done with my son. I`m not sure why Minecraft doesn`t appeal to more people. I remember being repelled by the sets when they were first out, but it wasn`t until I built some of the sets that I fell in love with them. I think the Minecraft sets are some of the best builds for me and I actually crave building them!  The Mountain set is just incredible and such a fun build.

They used "sticky backed plastic" to mean both the large sheets (Fablon) and tape (Sellotape), although they also used to call the latter "sticky tape" too.

Although they used the term, it didn't stop them showing the brand name ...

Sadly, I haven't had the time or space to do a new "full" Minecraft build, with all the new sets included, and I'm not sure when I will be able to, quite apart from having enough space!

I actually had #21115 The First Night as one of my top 5 best sets of the millennium, simply because it encapsulates what Lego Minecraft is so well. It is still one of my favourite sets.
