Plague busting building competition 2: Alt-builds

TheOriginalSimonBTheOriginalSimonB Felixstowe Member Posts: 1,503
Shall we have another competition?

It is an idea done before on here, but it should open up the field to more people as you can join in without having a zillion parts to hand.  Simply take any set you like and build something that isn’t shown on the box with it.  For example here’s the recycling skimmer  derived from #60249 Street Sweeper:

Any size, any theme and just a couple of conditions:

No extra parts snuck in.
Only one copy of one set.
If choosing a set from when alternate builds were shown on the box then those builds are also off limits.

Maximum 2 pictures per entry, although feel free to link to more off-site.

Feel free to enter multiple times per set, or with different ones.

I will let this run until the end of June.  A small prize will once again be on offer...

Have fun and get cracking!

Yup.  Any set, any size, any theme.  So long as you can make something with the pieces that isn't the same as originally intended...

do we have to use all the parts in a set? or are like 2/3rds of the included parts ok? or even less?
  • TheOriginalSimonBTheOriginalSimonB Felixstowe Member Posts: 1,503
@panchox1 use as much or little as you like, just no extras!

    Pointy!
The pointy came from trying to totally differentiate from the original build and not make it look stubby and silly with the huge canopy piece.
I'm actually quite proud of how that front end went (and stayed) together with minimal parts usage.
I do seem to have an affinity for retro type space craft that wouldn't look out of place in a Gerry Anderson TV show. I think it's an age thing (and probably why I like X-Wings so much). :)

Mine is from the Combo Charger polybag. #30356 I was inspired by future hover racers.er polybag.

From Speed Champions Ferrari F8 Tributo #76895 to Ferrari 8 a buritto (sic) BURP!

I wanted to build something as far removed from the original model as possible.
I love it ... get a bit tired of vehicles sometimes. This alternate is terrific!

...or perhaps it was a massive stroke of luck, seeing them on the pile of bits and thinking "they look a bit like eyes..." :-) Thanks though, it's nice when stuff like that happens.

Your arcade is really great too, I love how surprising, varied and brilliant these alternate builds can be.

    OK team, that's a wrap.

I'm happy to let votes choose the winner again, but this time PLEASE send them directly to me by DM rather than posting your choices here so we can keep an element of surprise in the results...

Hey guys, we have a clear winner - with almost 65% of the vote going to @Mr_Cross
and his marvellous Ferrari tortoise.  A cracking alternative I think we can all agree. Please let me have your details for prize dispatch.

Commiserations to all the runners up.  I know @snowhitie is planning comp 3 to launch soon so keep your eyes out for that!

Thank you to everyone who voted for my model :-D I'm glad Ferrari Tortoise was so well received, especially as there was some really fabulous alternative models here.
Thank you @TheOriginalSimonB for hosting, I'll PM you now!
