    Pictures as promised.

All three sets at up together.

I’m currently hunting for that raised baseplate. I have very un-wisely passed on very good prices for it on eBay and am now regretting it.

Oh, it's gonna snow in April? Alrighty then!
Deep Freeze Defender!  I love the Ice Planet 2002 sets... are you planning on building more?

At the time, I built an Ice Planet-colored #6989 Mega Core Magnetizer. It would have been even better if those giant wheels existed in white!

It's my favorite Space sub-theme. It would be neat if LEGO redid it (Ice Planet 2030, maybe?) but I'm not sure it could be improved!

Finished building the Palace Cinema modular. Impressive size and exterior, but the upstairs interior is really poor.

2 rows of 3 seats with no rows stepped up. Could've quite easily got more seats in.

After 3 weekends of sorting and building I've finally made it through a massive jumble of half-built sets I picked up back in November 2019. Along with massive amounts of dust, the two tubs contained all these sets, mostly complete.

@560Heliport I loved the Ice Planet helmets. That reddish orange with the slit for the eyes. They were more creative back in those days. These days it's if you have seen it in an IP we have rights to it is probably a Lego set. Ninjago has some interesting stuff but nothing like the 90's.
Retro sets should be something Lego should do. The big sets from the 80's and 90's should be remade on and off. They can produce the retired parts for 6 month runs of sets that will sell out. In fact they could probably just bundle all the sets from the original Aquazone wave in 96 into one big box.

Unfortunately when it was tried, they didn't sell enough. Turns out the number of people who theoretically want them just isn't matched by the number of people who'll buy them. I suppose the classic sets, as beloved as they are, struggled because they were being sold in a modern context with so many other sets to choose from, with modern building techniques and levels of detail. And the number of really A+ sets these days is staggering. I feel like the middle way they've chosen, of approving Ideas sets which echo the classics, is a good way to go, and one more likely to appeal outside of hardcore AFOL circles.

But I know what you mean about the Ice Planet sets - it was such a distinctive look, and they introduced a lot of cool parts around that time. I've got a lot of love for the 90s Space subthemes - Spyrius was awesome, and I really wish I'd made the effort to acquire more M-Tron...

The individual sets. The only thing I'm technically missing to have all three 100% complete is that I need a second Governor Broadside minifigure (the one with the yellow plume) for the Caribbean Clipper.
My yearning for TPB, combined with your posts yielded me getting out my old bricks and constructing this last week (yes, the flag is glued, and yes, a little BL-order was needed to fully restore it to its full glory, and yes, the little fences need to be replaced by LG ones, which they are by now, was already wondering why I needed to take those white ones out of my new parts stash):

The "boat" in the background (white base, with the antennae) is build by my 4-yo, and I converted one of my (got both the single version and the value pack #6200, with #6235, for my 6th BD) #6245 's to a Pirate Sentry.

During the week aforementioned 4-yo saw TPB taking shape (albeit on top of the cupboard ;)), and commented he also wanted a boat like that, so put this together in my lunchbreak today:
He is now building a tunnel/dock using Classic Castle wall-pieces.
Now let's see if I can find enough old 1x1 and 1x2 black tiles to do a skull on the sail...

Got around to gathering/building #6430. Did my best to capture the lights in action. Unfortunately no way to display the sound function! – although that might be a blessing in disguise as it could easily make a case for the most irritating sound...

Alot of those 90's themes had their own distinct looks. Space with their lime green windows and cockpits, Aquanauts with then yellow parts and the Aquasharks with the black and blue with red cockpits look. You can still just look at the old parts and know exactly where they came from.

Lego is in a much better place in 2020 than it was in the early 00's when Fort Legoredo etc was re-released. Could they be updated to what we have now? Would they lose their 80's and 90's charm if they were updated? An updated Fort or Castle with modern building techniques would be amazing.
I'm just waiting for a non licensed classic space ship, Castle, Pirate ship (Barracuda Bay does ease the pain a bit) to be made or re-made.

My in-laws are currently building and selling the sets they bought their sons in the 80ies and 90ies... Legoredo, Eldorado Fortress, Dragon Fortress... all sets I lusted after as a boy.

Condition isn’t the best, and I vouched I’d never buy any used Lego after a small hairrelated incident, but still hurts a little...
Decided to help with completing via BL.

at least they are saving the 9V cargotrain ánd Metroliner for the boys.

    1994 Spyrius!
That's awesome @560Heliport! I actually just acquired #6959 this week (it's still in shipping) completing my own Spyrius collection, including a couple of duplicates. Once that last set has arrived, and been inventoried and cleaned up, I'll have to get to building up the full group of sets!

That bigger robot #6949 was actually my first Spyrius set @lkliment2! I remember looking at that 1994 LEGO catalog so much and wanting that set so bad! But I never did end up getting it until about a year and a half ago. Then I picked up another set (#6939) at a convention in February and then decided I needed the whole theme! Since then I've picked up all the other sets, with the last one, as I mentioned, on the way now.

It has definitely cemented its place as one of my favorite Space sub-themes!

Most of my Exploriens- the Starship still needs to built. It wouldn't have fit on the counter with the others anyway! I can't find the instructions for #6958 so I downloaded them. Building while looking at my phone was a pain.

Finally got around to starting the Fishing Store. The cable knit jumper is possibly the best thing ever produced in Lego. Reminds me of a jumper my Nan knitted me.

More 90's builds and so many discontinued pats I miss. I'm half expecting to see Heli post a pair of his old LA Lights, his old Tamagotchi and some old snap bands.
Anyway one of the good things about lockdown is the amount of big sets I'm able to get through. The Death Star I bought 3 years ago will probably be done in the next few months.

@WatfordScottyM Funny thing - I just finished taking the Fishing Store apart to store it. I couldn't believe how many pieces there were. It took ages and filled quite a few zip lock bags. I wished that I had saved the box...

@oldtodd33 Nice! All those special combo sets with instructions for a special model always seemed to come out after I'd already bought the sets.
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,729
Yes,  they did. The tough part was you couldn't just buy the instructions. You had to buy the whole package. At least they came with a discount for the three sets. I never did get the above Blacktron set when it came out. It took me 20 years off and on to get this one with instructions. The M-tron I did buy originally.

    It depends on your perspective

I have a much higher chance of contracting covid and dying from it in my day job than I ever would on a cruise given the numbers of cruises and the people on each BUT that said obviously I didnt plan this when we booked the holiday and no we didnt still want to go so happily took the refund

Hey I can spend it on lego after all

I was thinking mainly of ending up on a ship with COVID-19 and being stuck in a room for two weeks... then getting off the ship and getting quarantined again!

    M-Tron!
I am really enjoying these posts— I’m curious to so how long you can keep it up!  Your fingers must have blisters from so much building... :-)
#6989 Mega Core Magnetizer is THE COOLEST LEGO SET EVER. Disagreement is futile and will be ignored or maybe ridiculed. :)

For the variety of play experiences it provides I would tend to agree ... maybe the coolest set of the ‘90s... #6990 and #6987 have it beat overall though in my opinion...
