Because you get to a point where finding anything becomes a bit of an issue.

This was my MSG parts before sorting into catagories and parts. (those are 80ltr boxes).

@Modeltrainman this classic post is both funny and a pretty good guide to Lego sorting strategies.

My status - finally getting a dedicated Lego room set up and started sorting 5 years of unsorted bulk purchases.

@Switchfoot55 I'm sorting by color first. Why exactly is that frowned upon, heavily?
It makes it more difficult to find the part you want if it's in a bunch of parts of the same colour. It's easier to find pieces if they contrast with surrounding bricks. :)

@Modeltrainman, as others have said, sorting by part should equate to an easier time finding the required piece. I've had my bulk sorted by color for the last two years and any time I've tried to sort out a set from Rebrickable or piece together a set I'm Bricklinking, it's taken ages.

I've already experienced the benefits of being able to pull out my bin of slopes/plates/bricks and find the part I needed, or realize I didn't have it.

To each their own is what it really comes down to. But I finally decided to pull the trigger and swap over and I haven't regretted it at all!

Finished my UCS Falcon today. Had a few weird missing parts where the missing bits were replaced in the bags by ones not even in the set. Luckily I had replacements on hand to keep things going.

I’d be interested to see how you display it— mine is still sealed, and will be until I can figure out where to put it I suppose...

Pieces all washed and accounted for except just a couple small pieces I'll need to Bricklink. I also need to aquire one more of the large flags without any broken clips. Also have all minifigs except I only have one Governor Broadside between the two, so I'll need to grab another of those off Bricklink too.
All told when said and done , both should be 100% complete for about $110-120 total! Not too shabby.

@pxchris You (and the reveal of Pirates of Barracuda Bay) have inspired me to build some of my Pirate Sets this weekend... and my eeekend starts in about 6 hours! ( I work Sunday to Wednesday).

Right now it is on a card table in an overcrowded room. It will probably have to get taken back down.

On a different note, the Creeper BigFig is a perfect smartphone stand for horizontal video nested under the chin of the thing. And it is like you have a friend watching with you. Is quarantine getting to me yet? No, why do you ask?

Decided to move stuff around again.  I have concluded I must devise a cloaking device for these storage shelves.

I think you just need a couple more keyboards and stands and Zorjirushi's that you can hide other boxes behind.

Nope, I need to find me some Romulans.  They have the cloaking.

(And I thought about pushing everything to the back, but that's where the UCS Star Wars sets are, and the '90's/'80's LEGO.  Pirates, Castle and Ninja.  And Spongebob.  And TMNT.  And a set of loose LotR.  And on the top is the Vikings display that's not made itself to a coffee table... yet.)

And here I thought my backlog was bad. Two Voltrons? Dude, are you sure you don't have a problem? Buzz and Zurg? Those are like ten years old, why are they still trapped in their cardboard prisons? Wait, are those even the LEGO buildable figures or actual Toy Story figures? Hard to tell from that shot.

How does your wife put up with you man? What's the secret? I really need to know, for research purposes as I am soon perhaps to be in the market for one. ;)

One Voltron in robot mode, and another in lion mode?

I casually mentioned that I had a sizeable LEGO collection.  I think at the time that translated into: 'Blah blah blah'.  And when I met my wife, the volume of my collection was stored off-site.  She had no idea until be bought our house.  Then I had to conceal most of it in my basement.  And garage.

As I have been away from brickset for a while I have been catching up on a lot of threads (got plenty of time on my hands at the moment....) but I can't see any threads about Dots? Is there any hidden somewhere? Do you all not like Dots?

^ Personally, I just think it's too new. I'm interested in it and I think it's something my kids will like but right now, there is nothing from the theme available locally.

I've found myself getting through my backlog of sets. I'm not going out and not buying news ones so the next couple of months I'll hopefully start Ninjago City and the Death Star. Both bought in 2017.

Although I thought I found some on the street, it was MB litter.

Any wild speculation as to what my current project is...?

The Imperial Trading Post!! I remember getting this for Christmas, and unfortunately, I have less than half of all the pieces (including most minifigures and the island plate), one of my favorite sets, and my biggest at that point in time.

As for my status...on another long-term self-imposed dark age, only came back to get S20 minifugures.

I'm out of isolation and went to my local shopping centre for my flu shot.
I was lucky. I was allowed to go home and self isolate. Now because people can't be trusted they are locking returning citizens in hotels for 2 weeks.
The local shopping centre where my indie toy store is is like one of those dead mall videos you see on Youtube. It was kind of creepy. The toy store was open and doing a bit of trade. I got a small set that will hopefully help.
Let's just hope this ends sooner rather than later.

Actually this is a combination of the pieces from #6276 and #6274. However the raised baseplate is the same as in the Imperial trading post (#6277). I had everything laid out on towels to dry after a thorough cleaning.

I was always a blue coat guy when it came to Pirates. I don't recall that I ever got more than one of the red coat Imperial sets. So now in my adult LEGO career, it's all about collecting the 89-91 blue coat Imperials for me. I'd love to snag #6267 some day!

Today's status, while sitting sorting out the parts, ahead of building #72081 is wondering why medium to large Technic sets that don't have numbered bags don't just come with bags of the various individual parts all together instead of spreading the same part in different colours over multiple bags.
There's probably a good reason for it but it was one of those things that crossed my mind as I dropped yet another handful of parts on the floor because sausage fingers were trying to pluck small trans parts and gears out of another bag of connectors. :/
