^It says 2 of 5 produced. So you own 3 of the total 5? Pretty dang incredible!

In related news, I just pieced together 10 storm troopers from a bulk lot. And they were only partially chewed. So, pretty impressive as well...

Not that I don't trust revenue reports from a family-owned company, when all of the books/accounting isn't made public or audited...

But this made me scrunch my brow.

Unless 'upgraded' has been expanded to mean 'not dilapidated', this is suspicious to me.

^ How much of that 27% increase was due to people trying to redeem VIP points? And does that 27% represent that many more people, or just 27% more visits? (By people repeatedly trying to redeem VIP points!)

I think they're counting the frantic page refreshes from customers desperately trying to check out as seperate visits, perhaps? 27% increased activity seems about the average for a basic transaction now.

That was just the amount of refreshing people did to the malfunctioning website when trying to buying the 1989 Batmobile to get it with the mini-1989 Batmobile GWP.

Don't confuse US auditing rules with requirements elsewhere in the world ;)

The default in Europe (Audit directive 2006/43/EC) is that all companies or public entities require a statutory audit to certify the financial statements, with exemptions based on balance sheet/turnover/employees thresholds. These thresholds basically exclude small companies only.

So TLG's accounts have certainly been audited; the 2019 annual report is signed by PWC.

I also happen to think that 27% is in the range of weird made-up growth that looks big, looks sustainable, and can't be verified.

Yes, I'm sure they're accurate to a certain extent - they are accountable to their family shareholders.  But we all know that there is a level of wizardry when it comes to corporate accounting.  Enron had fabulous audited accounts.

Nonetheless, my misgivings are that we don't see actual revenue reports (sales figures, etc.), expense reports, and all of those things that a publicly traded company is required to provide in the US.  It'd be interesting to know how much annual revenue is generated by the licensing to third-parties, or how they account for revenue from LEGO Masters.

I really want to know how many units the UCS MF has sold!

@SumoLego As a European company, TLG has the same reporting and auditing requirements as a public company. As they are privately held (75% KIRKBI, 25% LEGO Foundation), they just don't need to make them publicly available. We're pretty lucky they make this summary available to all. But I'm sure KIRKBI's accountants, lawyers and investment managers are all over the much more detailed numbers available to them 😉

There's actually some information in the annual report (page 21) regarding licencing revenue: DKK 451M (USD 68M). VS 38B from sale of goods. Looking back over the past 10 years, licencing revenue has on average made up 1,3% of TLG's total revenue. You also get numbers on e.g. how much they invested in plants and equipment (DKK 1.8B) and how much they paid their executives.

However TLG's job is to make KIRKBI money from selling bricks. Most other non-core activities are done by either KIRKBI (where the LEGO trademark is held) or the Foundation. E.g. the crackdown on leaks was done by KIRKBI lawyers. Strengthening the LEGO brand is a 100% KIRKBI responsibility, so I wouldn't be surprised if contracts for the LEGO Masters programs have been signed between Endemol Shine and KIRKBI, not TLG. If you ever want to apply your lawyer skills at LEGO, it's at KIRKBI you need to look for a job, not TLG 😁

Lego status this evening: gutted 😞

New COVID-19 related restrictions were put in place by the Danish government today, and as a result TLG cancelled all arrangements that are not absolutely business critical. Including the AFOL event I was attending next week...

Oh well, next Billund trips planned for November and December. 😊

Went to the LEGO Store on Wednesday. Haven't been in there since it closed in Sacramento. Sadly, the Pick a Brick wall...I only filled one cup. Nothing super neat. I did get the pink elephants from BAM...And another train, a LEGO Store set... Will have to get pictures.

Got an email from Lego asking me to call them to correct a payment issue. I reread the email five times, nowhere in it was the phone number they asked me to call.

Anyway apparently if you pay for Bricks & Pieces with PayPal and it takes a long time for them to ship, PayPal will cancel the payment.

When I unboxed my #10262 there was a small bag of eleven light bluish grey 1x1 bricks loose inside the box. I knew that they were to fix a problem with some of the parts in the set and figured I would find the answer at some point.
I wasn't too far into building the last bag when I realized what they were for. The 1x1 bricks that were in bag 4 are way off in color, like there wasn't enough blue. I'm glad LEGO caught the error themselves so I don't have to call customer support and have them fix it. First time I've personally seen anything like this. The one on the right came out of bag 4. The one on the left is what light bluish grey is supposed to look like. When I realized what the extra 1x1s were for.

Nah. The old grays had a lot more brown in them. These look like they could be pretty close to the old very light gray color but I don't have any parts in that color to compare.

saw a facebook marketplace listing for a bin of bricks that had what looked like an intact Kwik e mart in it. $20. reached out to the seller, said it was available but couldn't talk right now. later, it got marked up $35 and no reply.

Terrible luck. I was going to see family in New York as well as catch some NBA games. I landed in LA and saw the news the season was suspended. Now I am not going to go to New York as I want to get home asap and am booked on a flight out tomorrow.
Now the fun part of chasing up airlines and hotels to get credit or a refund.
Then I'm going to self isolate for 2 weeks just in case.
In Lego news if you want a retired A Wing and Kylos TIE fighter Microfighters pack in Sydney the store at Sydney Airport just before the departures gate in the International terminal has a couple.

Am I the only one building a Sheldon-robot in anticipation of the virus hysteria continuing?

(Frankly, I'd be happy to be ordered to do a two-week quarantine.  I've got three seasons of Rebels to watch, and embarrasingly... 20 episodes of Blue Bloods.  I do love me some Selleck!)

I tried working from home when my son was born.  My mortgage company was not impressed with the number of diapers I changed that month.  They still insisted on being paid with money.

(Maybe this time they'll take payment in the form of 'Episodes Watched on Netflix'.)

I decided to brave the hoardes at Walmart today, in search of cheap shrimp for my turtle. The store was just overrun with shoppers, all jostling dangerously close in their pursuit of quarantine supplies. It was kind of hilarious. For my troubles, I also managed to snag #76128 at 40% off. It was the only FFH set I was wanting, containing both Mysterio and Night Monkey as well as a pile of fun parts. Molten Man himself is currently helping the haunted port-a-loo attack the Newbury fairground.

I just got home from the US after cutting short my trip. Just before we took off the 14 day self isolation 'law' went into effect. Anyone coming into Australia has toself isolate for 2 weeks. That's great for me. I have a lot of sets to catch up on. I was terrified they were going to cancel the flight when they said they had an important announcement. Ah well. Home now.
