Was surprisingly productive tonight, started on 70828 bag 2's and got through the vast majority of the large parts before I felt like a break, and doing some sorting before a break is also a good sign

This morning, finished bag 2

Put the dark turquoise in a separate bin (what I little I'd listed already was with the yellowish green and olive green), only time I've needed another tub in my recent sorting. I don't need the space yet but the set inventory tells me there's more coming (similarly, I get out a larger ziplock if there's more of a lot in other bags)

got to bag 3 fairly quick, and started bag 4 but took awhile to get around to finishing it

running low on 2x3 bags and number 0 size bubblemailers. have enough for now but will need to order more soon. have plenty of other sizes, amongst other things could use larger or smaller ones to stretch supply

found a set of small plastic drawers a few days ago. 15 2 3/4" by 5 7/8" (7x15 cm) with adjustable dividers

starting to use that to store small lots that would otherwise be buried amongst large lots in my regular bins, or colors I have little enough of to not warrant a larger bin at all

the fronts are a perfect fit for the 1" by 2 5/8" (2.5x6.7cm) label stickers I use

opened 70828 bag 5 Wednesday night so the empty bags could go out with the garbage pickup Thursday morning. not the first time garbage day has motivated me.

finished sorting them Thursday night. was pleased with myself for not putting the pieces away to sort later.

but moving on to a non LEGO project for now

hoping to bring some semblance of control to my backlog by Thanksgiving to make room and generate cashflow for Black Friday deals. my favorite NFL team is playing on Thanksgiving for the first time in ages so I'll be late getting to the stores but at WalMart toys don't seem to be as big a rush as electronics.

still haven't finished 70828, want to do that before I list any of it

made some progress on sorting stuff I already listed. one of my recent orders required digging through that pile and I did more of it while I had the pile out, often how that works.

another recent order was 38 lots which got a bit of a groan. but it was mostly nexo shields, so I only had to look in a few area of my transparent color storage rather than all over my inventory, and nexo shields aren't just a few cents

Had an order last week that was 845 items in 149 lots. Took about an hour to pick. I don't mind orders like that because they usually include more than enough profit to justify the time spent, but also they tend to include items that would otherwise sit for quite a while.

none were full retail and even so I was picky about which ones I got

3 already sold.

maybe this is a good sign for not getting stuck with a bunch of CMF inventory which has often happened before

Another 4 of those sold on the 17th - profited $14.11 on those 2 sales, with $28.26 spent on the 9 that haven't sold yet, so I'd break even even if I got only half cost for those which would be pessimistic

I've profited about $60 on TLM2 fig sales (harder to tell because those sales also included other items) with $101.52 spent on those that haven't sold, so I'd need to get at least 41% cost for those

Still sold only a few #41175 Unikitty figs. Yet those are listed for over twice what I paid, so there's plenty of room to cut price. There's another Unikitty in TLM2 which I avoided getting because it's low price (probably thanks to the 41175 supply) and easy to feel for.

Made about $40 on Harry Potter CMFs with $110 spent on unsold inventory

sorted all of the large pieces from 70828 bag 8 in one session and started bag 7 later that evening

not seeing enoguh black 1x6 plate, and I'm confident I've checked all the bags in the set. since BL inventories are usually right and TLG rarely makes such goofs, my guess is there were some in a bag I already sorted and I misplaced those

Just checked part out value on #11005, box of bricks for $20 at WalMart on Thanksgiving. $61.58 for the LEGO, about 3x isn't bad but increased supply and later discounts could drive that down. I have tons of inventory and not so much cashflow so I'm thinking twice about getting these

WalMart's Thanksgiving deal is solid but I decided I did not need any more inventory given my massive backlog, including much of the Thanksgiving deal from last year

simple high value order, including a couple polybags I bought back in 2017. a recent pricecut apparently worked. unloaded them for around cost, hard to do exact accounting on orders that include other items

then a 30 lot $3.71 order

several of the lots were used which are easier for me to pick since I have less to did through, and used/new is one way to divide an order into more manageable chunks

one lot I had trouble finding, one I couldn't find, but during the search I updated a lot of quantity/pricing and even listed a few other things I saw.

I go at least 5% below average, and often lower by a varying amount (I want my listing to appear on the first page of results for new condition from US sellers). I often have to adjust prices later on as sale price goes down and/or there are more cheap listings.

Today I actually listed the parts from those 5 #70828. I had updated pricing for many lots as I was sorting but it was still a process and I still didn't spend as much time updating prices as I would like.

Some lots were missing or lower quantity. There was a bag I'd forgotten to sort and I don't have time to do that til tonight but since I already started listing I feel I'm close enough to list everything now.

My original estimate for part out value was $147.99, ratio 4.57 when paying $32.40. $116.85 is still a very good ratio of 3.61 (some parts went down and/or I listed new colors/molds below the averages the initial estimate was based on)

first sale of 2020 - a polybag I bought in 2018 which I got rid of basically at cost, and a couple bucks in parts which i got more recently. that polybag was in a storage bin near the bottom of a pile, grr.

profit was not quite a thousand dollars last year, versus nearly two and a half thousand for 2018. new years resolutions include actually listing some of my backlog to have less tied up in inventory

Funny how that works. :)

I'll be more careful about buying new inventory but I'm not going to stop. Won't buy lower value CMFs even on an okay sale. Looking for better part out ratios than I used to including a more cautious estimate of part values. For instance for sets I'm considering I'm checking prices on parts already in inventory to see if a price cut is in order, which isn't the worst idea anyway.

A supermarket has #71024 Disney s2 CMF on clearance, finally put together an ID guide. Huey, Dewey and Louie are the only ones with significant value, though Sally and Jack Skellington also go for above MSRP. Thought Anna, Elsa and Jasmine might've been more popular as minifigure versions of characters usually seen as minidolls.

Another of their locations had 2019 advent calendars on sale.

one buyer didn't pay after several reminders and repeating the instructions and neutral'ed me

another said he did but then dropped the issue and asked to cancel

I cooperated with the latter but NPB'ed the former

got a 45 lot $9 order, i don't mind that guy not paying.

I don't want to set a value per lot limit in case that rules out orders I wouldn't mind.

ironically, a lot of difficult orders are low value and many of the highest value ones go very smoothly.

USPS rate increase effective today

the current Notice 123 (comprehensive price list) PDF is a very good thing to have saved on my computer and phone since I'm referencing it so often.

(all prices below are commercial base, the rate used when printing labels through PayPal)

domestic 1st class mail package under 4 oz now $2.74 to $3.18 depending on zone, had been $2.66 to $3.09. 13-16oz now $5.04 to $5.70 instead of $4.94 to $5.53

Priority flatrate - padded envelope now $7.75, small box $7.65, medium box $13.20, large box $18.30

some international 1st class rates up slightly, some up several percent, most noticeable for Canada. priority international regularly up a few percent.

Edited my shipping information accordingly, added what ZIPs are in Zones 1/2 and what states are all or mostly in Zones 8/9.

After a pretty downbeat December, January has been manic to say the least! 82 orders so far this month, and counting (one even coming in as I'm typing this out!). Touch wood no issues so far with any of the orders other than one sent out to Canada where the tracking has been inactive for nearly 2 weeks, but it is fully tracked and insured so I'll be chasing it up with the Royal Mail later in the week.

I've also been parting out the winter sales pickups like crazy to try and keep the inventory topped up. Sets parted out this month alone include;

With the NPB I'd hope that Bricklink have removed their feedback? Certainly they have for me in the past (only ever had two NPB's so it's not something I'm overly familiar with) - I never even found out what their feedback for me was as it just shows up with the "Feedback Removed" message!

As for smaller orders, if I set a lot limit I'd lose probably 90% of my orders. I find the time lost in picking one or two bits here and there is made up in the order pretty much always being extremely easy to pack. Plus orders that I put in myself as a buyer on Bricklink are almost always odd pieces here and there! So not providing that service as a seller would be somewhat hypocritical of me. Just always remember that a buyer has placed an order in your store for a very good reason, and not because they want to be a pain.

What I do have on my store, and find works really well, is a minimum order of £5. This still allows smaller orders to come in, still offers full flexibility for the customer, whilst still being very much worthwhile in terms of time spent on the order and covering the costs of time, packaging supplies etc. The key thing is it means I have no hidden fees on my store to cover those costs, which makes life as a buyer and seller so much easier.

@DB361 I just submitted the NPB (even when nothing odd happens, sometimes takes me well over a week to submit or well over a week (over 2 if they comment) to finalize it)

Order minimums are one way to do it but I don't mind low value orders if they're simple and I wonder if a minimum would backfire by causing people to order a ton of small pieces. I charge a $1 handling fee on all domestic orders ($1.50 foreign) so I don't lose out on tiny ones. I don't have any fees beyond that.

Why not just set an average lot value too? They cannot checkout if the order total divided by the number of lots is below the threshold. If you set an average lot value of 50c, and someone wants a minifigure worth $2 and a couple of cheap parts, they can checkout fine. You could go to 20c as the average lot value, and they could still buy the same minifigure and 9 other different cheap parts. But they could not buy a minifigure and 200 different 1c parts.

It is when someone hits you with a "one of this and one of that" type order, when you spend a couple of hours picking a few hundred parts and the whole order comes to $5 that you realise that average lot values are a good thing.

I find my cheaper parts often sell well with minifigure / expensive parts orders, so don't really have a problem there. If I have parts that sit for too long, I tend to bag them up and stick them on ebay as a job lot and usually still get roughly what I would have got on BL. Although I tend not to list anything on BL under 2-3 pence unless i have a lot of them, and even then I sell them as a bag of 20 or 50. Otherwise they go straight in the ebay bag. I don't really see the point of listing or selling single penny parts, but I know it works for others if they don't mind the picking time.
