I saw there was one Lego store, but it looked a way out of the centre. We were staying up on Sherbrooke Rd. We are back there on Sunday prior to flying home Monday so might take a look if we have time, thanks
The one up in Laval is lovely. The staff there are all superb, and the mall itself is gorgeous. It's an easy trip via transit (a metro ride and one quick bus), if you're not inclined to take Uber while in town. While you're there, be sure to grab lunch at Smart Burger. Literally the BEST hamburger you'll ever eat! :D

I opened and caught up on the HP advent calendar. Yep. Literally built the first 12 doors worth.

13 Days of building and 13 days of gifts. I've got to say, last year's Star Wars Calendar had way more variety than this years, and while I appreciate the idea of having a little scene, I'm a bit annoyed that there has been a lot of repetition and precious few clever builds out of the HP Calendar so far. I think the highlight for me was that Hogwarts Express model, highlight that isn't Minifigure related anyway.

Also extremely disappointed. The local LEGO Store had the Gingerbread House still yesterday, today being payday I was going to pick it up after work and build it over the weekend. Alas, today LEGO reports it is out of stock. Oh well, they still have the Fire Brigade set, and hopefully that won't sell out before I get off work today.

I have been thinking about opening my Falcon for Christmas.  I haven't built anything except the wind turbine this year and I would rather open it sooner rather than later.

Had a good laugh in Hamleys today with all the “discount” prices on Lego sets. I really do dislike this ripoff tourest trap of a shop.

Having a blast building the Gingerbread House, but I am making stupid mistakes forcing me to deconstruct to get parts I shouldn't have placed where I placed them. Is this a sign of being too old for LEGO? Or just a lack of observational awareness? Or maybe the fact that Creator Expert sets are really, really, confusing?

Had a guy say me . You build Lego sets? Wow. That's different.
Open your eyes dude! It's not that niche is it?

I'm dealing with set anxiety as well. I have been promised the 89 Batmobile. But they can't buy it until the 28th. I've been checking it every few days seeing if it's still available but knowing my luck the day it will be bought it will be sorry temporarily out of stock.

I find it amusing when people are amazed that an adult would build LEGO.

Am I supposed to occupy my time with 'adult' activities like... doing taxes?  Home improvement?  Being a douchebag about whether something is a riesling or moscato?
I just sent that quote to my daughter - maybe it will ease the worried look on her face and the eyerolls when she sees my LEGO room.

I'm always of the impression that people find my Lego collection the least odd thing in my home, tbh. It's usually the dolls and figurines that illicit commentary.

Congratulations on the latest addition @VorpalRyu. Like @sid3windr I've built a bit less lately, no new babies but having to take care of husband and son I already got! However, after really getting stuck in to my winter village (as mentioned in the WV thread) I have decided that I just need to make time to build Lego. I did 'build a Lego a day in 2018' and that helped me no end to make my life happier and more relaxed. So think I might do that again for 2020, that way I make sure I do something for myself every day. We've also reorganised our living room so there's more room for building and a better spot to work at the computer, so I'll chat a bit more over here too, not just read along!

Even after days of extensive building, this evenign after tidying up all the bricks for the MOCing and detailing, I got stuck into #40292 while my son was building the Oni Titan, #70658. We were listening to the Jethro Tull Christmas album that I've only recently discovered thanks to a tip from @milamber so nice an relaxing evening!

I got 70419 and my kids were wanting to help build it. I now understand why people drink. Watching a 7 and 8 year old trying to get a brick to go in every direction but the way it is supposed to go is a bit unsettling.

^ yeah it is a little if you’re as OCD as I am.  I love passing along the art of building to my grandkids but at 2 (almost 3) & 4, they can maybe get in 10 steps through the book before they want to stick bricks everywhere & play with the figs.  Even after assuring me they want the set to appear exactly as it does on the box.  Just the way kids build & approach things differently.  The only problem I have is they want to open every box in the house, including #76139, which of course looks awesome to them, but they don’t yet understand that we can’t get through a set with 1/10 of the pieces yet.  It’s actually quite fun to watch the learning process they go through at that age with lego.

My local Bricks & Minifigs had someone unload quite a bit the other day apparently.  I was able to get both my first employee gift set, which I've wanted since I saw it come out (#4002016) and my last needed Ideas set (#21104) for a reasonable (for those sets) price, both NSIB, although both boxes were slightly damaged.  They also had the entire M-Tron lineup used... I have all of them sitting in my mother's basement somewhere, but I dread the fight of having to wrench them away from her to bring back to my collection, so I figured it was easier to just grab it while I could :P  Bunch of unexpected expenses... but its Christmas season, so I kind of expected it.  At least it all went to supporting a great local store, and shrinking my wanted list by a decent chunk!

^Does your Bricks & Minifigs not charge an astronomical amount of sets? I thought that was standard among their stores?

I use mine for bulk purchases quite often. But when I see sets for 50% above BL high prices, I have a hard time pulling the trigger.

Our store is actually super competitive.  Some sets are definitely selling at a premium (They had a NSIB #75904 that was priced pretty high that I skipped out on awhile ago) but in general they price pretty close to BL market rates.  Sometimes they even match international prices vs what I would expect to see when only looking at the domestic market. And for some sets that are more rare and may not be highly desirable, they will definitely underprice sometimes.  For instance, the two main sets I got were both around 165-170$, which is a great deal for NSIB on both those sets, even if the boxes weren't in perfect condition, and that doesn't even take shipping into account.  Since we only pay ~4.5% sales tax at that location, for most boxed sets it actually comes out generally being way less than the sets+shipping on BL.

I really love our local franchise, the people are great and I've gotten some amazing deals there from them.  I've spent at least several thousand dollars clearing out my wanted list of retired sets there, and don't regret a penny because every time I've felt like I was definitely getting the most bang from my buck that I could while getting the sets I wanted :)

^Well, good to know. The owners of my local store are great, and super nice people. But I think they think just a little too highly of their inventory at times, and as such, their stock sits. And sits. And sits.

There was another local B&M that was open for a short time and then closed suddenly. I felt their prices and willingness to negotiate were substantially better. Maybe that's why they didn't stick around?

Yeah, the stock in our B&M turns over pretty fast, especially for used sets.  Boxed sets tend to sit longer, which isn't surprising since they're more expensive.  But for used sets... I know there's been multiple times that they've posted pics of new sets that have come in, and when I went in to check them out 5-6 hours later, the sets were gone.  If they post something that I know I definitely want, I don't wait around before going to check it out :P

Sitting in the cinema ready to watch Star wars - it's released today in Switzerland! Watching in 4D for my very first time for any film! Whilst that status is not strictly Lego related, I will be collecting Kylo Ren's shuttle afterwards after using 80 chf worth of vouchers on top of the already 20% discount so I will effectively get it for almost 75% off! Happy Christmas to me!

No spoilers from me after the film! May be there will be another thread for this for those to discuss the movie (and Lego sets of course!).

Apparently not! I was now curious myself whether an alternative was available for part 3005pr0012 (Brick 1 x 1 with Cow and Chocolate Bar (Chocolate Milk Carton) Print), but it seems the chocolate milk part is indeed only available in #71016 The Kwik-E-Mart.

Friends seems to promote a (somewhat) healthier lifestyle and only includes juice and (plain) milk cartons from what I could find...

Not available on B&P either. However prices on BL seem reasonable; available in large quantities from US sellers for around 50 cents.

It's funny, I've seen things that say juice isn't very healthy. But, I digress. I bought 4 chocolate milk  cartons from Bricklink , last night. Along with some spoons. I apparently only have 1. I've considered for years outfitting the Super Chief's dining car...

My independent toy store pulls through again.
With the release of the new Star Wars sets I was dreading going into the City to the department stores in school holiday time.
I decided to wait and put an order in with my local toy store. I like to give small businesses my money over the larger chain stores.
Then I had a feeling this morning. They will probably have the sets I want.
Sure enough they did. So now I have the 4 sets I want. The new X Wing, Sith fighter and the 2 new Microfighters.
Then I'll add on the sets coming out on the 26th to my 89 Batmobile order.
I'm quite happy at the moment

Finally got around to putting the Christmas tree up today. After last years circle of track around the base, we've upgraded to a loop around the tree that extends into the area under the stairs. probably 6 or 7m of track now with the station tucked at the front if the tree.

What's surprising to me is that this didn't provoke a response of "Gordon's alive!?" from @SumoLego

It used to be on B&P, guess it's because the set isn't that recent anymore. I bought some years ago to sell in my Lego supermarket.

Today was a great day! It's my first day off for two weeks, and TRU had most of the new Hidden Side sets (all except the subway station) and the DC CMFs! I (as usual, hahaha) screwed up my CMF groping and will need to go back for four characters, but I got everyone that I really wanted! :D

It gets better! I went back for the DC minifigs I missed (I'm now only missing Sinestro and Mister Miracle), and double checked the HS endcap. Sure enough, the subway was there! It was tucked behind another facing. :D
