It seems that Batman's sparkly wedding get up in TLM2 was an omen of things to come for the character.... :p

How overkill is 76120? I mean, Gordon, Batman AND Shazam against Riddler, a guy with no super powers? A car, a plane and a flying guy chasing a ridiculous helicopter?
    It makes no sense...

That's the one thing about the DCU that I dislike: Batman's little corner of the world interacting with.... well, pretty much anything else in the DCU. He and his little street level rogues gallery make zero sense up against demigods and cosmic forces.

I don't know how or why Batman has remained so consistently popular that everything needs to constantly be tainted by his presence. Captain Marv... er, 'Shazam', would have been better suited to a JL set with his contemporaries, but of course the entire DC summer line up needs to be Batman. So, here we are with yet another awkward scenario.

At least it will play out a little more favorably at my house, with 'Shazam' hanging out with the JL while Batman and the rest of this set will be swiftly pitched into the Bin of Storage with all of the other Bat-crap Lego has foisted on me. :p

I actually agree with you on that one. No matter how smart and brilliant Batman is he still should get his arse kicked by a lot of the cosmic super villians. Although, to be fair Lex Luthor should not be able to take on Superman either.  The issue is that Batman is their most popular character and tends to sell comics. If you look at the top 20 most Batman series are in it so it makes sense to have your biggest character in as many series as possible (not too many though *cough* New 52 *cough*). In theory if you look at his level of power Superman is more than enough to deal with any major issues on his own.

^ The problem is that Superman is so powerful that most of his stories are crap. On the other hand, it's easier to come up with an interesting story about a guy with no superpowers who can overcome obstacles with (sometimes) intelligence and gadgets.

As always, you missed my point :)
You've got 3 guys, a cop, a "super" hero full of gadgets and a semi-Superman chasing a normal dude in a helicopter. Overkill. If the three of them were chasing Thanos in his helicopter, I'd understand, and it would make for an interesting crossover (insert Captain Marvel/Shazam pun here).

Perhaps LEGO found the Justice League sets without batman haven't sold as well. I'd prefer to have less Batman focus particularly on the Batman Rogues Gallery. And it IS Batman's 80th Birthday this year.

Not that I expect LEGO would listen to me but I would LOVE to see a Legion of Superheroes series. Of course that would likely clash with the Star Wars Theme with space ships and what not - but most of the elements are already in place. Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl are easy. Even Wildfire, Dawnstar, Blok and possible just with paints of current elements - and the rest is just printing (Other than Quislet and Tellus).

A Legion series with a Time displaced Superman/Boy and Batman or other Justice Leaguers using a Time Sphere (a repurposed Jurassic World sphere) would be wonderful...

    But I can dream

In reality, batman doesn't belong with all the other super powered beings. But for story telling, it requires the writers' creativity to put batman in a position where it seems like he can keep up which makes it fun.  Of course, there are plenty of times where the writing is bad and things don't make any sense.

wish Grant Morrison would just devote his career to writing Superman. Both "All-Star Superman" and his run on Action Comics are absolute perfection. The former for perfectly distilling the essence of the Superman core mythos, and the latter for brilliantly conveying the perspective of a 4th dimensional imp.

YES! I completely agree. I'm generally turned off by Superman comics, but Grant Morrison is an absolute genius. I know this is a DC thread, but have you read Morrison and Quietly's run on X-Men?

I tried. I'd given up on all things "X" a few years prior. Collecting 20+ books every month to keep tabs on all the plot lines because I enjoyed a handful of mutants just became too much of a hassle. I hopped back on for this, as I love both of them (particularly Quitely's gorgeous art!). I just couldn't get into it. I think it was more my own disinterest in the 'mutant struggle' at that point than anything about the book itself. I know it's quite a popular run with the hardcore X-fans though.

I assumed because they're tied to the film release?
I'm more than happy with a series of minifigs over a January wave of sets. I don't need another Bat-sub/mech/tank/whatever set just to get a couple of figures. I'd much sooner see a sweet minifig set! :D

The designer video for the Batmobile is up, but whomever it was that edited the video clearly isn't all that savvy about Lego sets. They've spliced in a bunch of footage of #76112 while the designer is talking about #76023 in the voiceover, hahaha.

The new trailer for WW84 dropped today! I can't freaking wait for this one! Does anyone know who the villain guy is? My first thought was that he must be the White Magician, but there are so many gods and demons in her mythos who he could be.

I hope the tie-in Lego set(s) do it justice. #76075 was full perfect, delivering a much needed Steve Trevor and Ares for my DC Lego collection. Doctor Poison could have been kinda cool as well, but I was full satisfied with the selected characters. I'm hoping they revisit Barbara. The one we got in #76097 was acceptable, but I'd rather see her just covered head to toe in spotted fur without her Suicide Squad outfit. I can't wait to see what we're getting! :D

    Maxwell Lord (and Cheetah).
The trailer was cool but that ending ruined it for me... Both the lasso in the lightning and the golden armor (I hope they have a pretty good explanation for the absence of that in BvS and JL).

A Max Lord minifig would be awesome, and since Cheetah is already coming in the CMF series, I can hope.

Yeah, I read today that it was Lord. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the choice. It was a very weak story for Diana in the comics (everyone was suddenly angry that she killed a monster when she'd been killing foes since her post-Crisis debut?), and the neck snapping 'shock' resolution has already been played out in Man of Steel. I suppose he's a good choice for the film in a #metoo world though. I still think tht the White Magician would have been a better option though (the Chauvinist, anyone?).

The Cheetah in the CMF series is a different character, Priscilla Rich. Barbara Minerva is the current Cheetah, with a host of supernatural powers that Rich never had. We did get Barbara once before though, so I'd say there's 50/50 chance she'll pop up again. Lord is a given, I'd imagine. He's an easy enough character to represent with minimal effort.

I doubt we're getting 2 villains in a single set... Especially since we're getting another Steve Trevor for sure...

Max Lord could be any business man really. Now put him in a Checkmate Shirt however...

As for the Golden Armour it looks like it's more like a Jump Suit with Wings instead of Parachute - probably going to be a one off type thing which would explain why she can't use it again.

    I wouldn't hold my breath.

Considering the success of these stand-alone movies (SS, Aquaman, WW, Joker), maybe DC could do a team-up event movie that comic fans and civilians would sign up in droves to see...

I didn't expect to see an increase here in Canada. We just had one in the spring starting with the TLM2 wave. It would have been a bit jarring to see them go up again.

I'm sorry, but I just watched Family Matters with the kids.  If they do not make a bigfig Solomon Grundy soon...I'm going to scream.  Also need the Ventriloquist they advertised in some promo material a while ago, complete with baby-style Scarface.  Wonder if we will get a Black Mask soon with the new Harley Quinn movie coming out.  Just saw him in Imaginext form a few days ago and squealed.

Does Lego still have a licensing deal with WB?
  • gmonkey76gmonkey76 Member Posts: 1,833
^ & ^^ I'm sure they still have the license, but LEGO has been better with leaks coming out. I doubt LEGO would make the new Batmobile and Minifigures if they only had the rights for a month.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,728
I think the confusion is that WB is no longer making theatrical films with Lego and that is what people are discussing as far as them parting ways. That deal has nothing to do with sets produced based on WB properties.

Correct me if this has been talked about before?

Did anyone else notice the camouflage tumbler in the background of the 76139 designer video?
(Queue the "I can't see it" comments)

Is this an MOC version of 76023?

Either way I'd like to get my hands on it, any details would be great.

^I would need to see new 2020 DC sets besides the ones that are already out. It's weird that we haven't seen or heard anything about them yet. Maybe with WB not doing movies anymore LEGO and DC have decided to part ways. Maybe the sets we got were already to far in production to cancel.

I know I posted something different 5 posts up.
  • jmeninnojmeninno Member Posts: 1,213
^umm, I'm probably missing something or just being dumb...or both.  Has anything new for DC, other than the minifigs, actually been released for 2020?  I thought I saw set descriptions a month or two ago...thanks!
  • gmonkey76gmonkey76 Member Posts: 1,833
^haven't seen anything, and there are no place holders in the Brickset database for other DC sets.
  • jmeninnojmeninno Member Posts: 1,213
Oh ok, thanks.  I know the 80th anniversary sets (for lack of better word) are still somewhat new, so maybe we wont get anything until spring or summer.  At least, I hope so.
