Head and hat from njo325, Shark Army Thug, would make a decent vagrant, if you want yellow. Haven't got as far as looking at a body.

Don't hobos always move on?* In which case if getting minifigures you really want bums.

*Bear in mind I get much of my American language from TV, in this case The Littlest Hobo, who didn't settle down. Or maybe tomorrow came and he did.

I've always seen the Modulars as a high street, in which case no houses are really needed. There is the odd apartment above a store or similar, but the houses (like in City) are mainly implied by the people being present.

Yeah I know. That can either be left out of a high street / shopping street, or put on a side street.

The other thing here is if people want more houses then they can just copy that (half) modular to make as many houses as they like. Chances are the houses in the row would have been built in similar ways so would look similar. I don't think I'd want them to do a house (or pair of houses) for every store / service style modular they do. Worse still, 100 houses for every store to get the ratio of houses to shops somewhere close to reality.

Very few MOCs of towns come close to having the right number of houses compared to the size of the shopping area. The only ones I think I have ever seen close to the right ratio are microscale, where housing is quite cheap and simple to do and can be displayed more effectively.

Even the old town plan sets were highly skewed towards "interesting" bits of a town, rather than getting the number of houses / residential areas anywhere near accurate.

    A bookshop would be lovely!

Would it be a full modular or would it be like Pet Shop? Two seperate business/buildings connected to eachother?

Speaking of Town plan, I wonder if #10184 may become one of those archive sets re-released.

Still hoping for a hardware store/townhouse combo like #10218 Pet shop.. Think that such a store would be useful for a community of builders.
Actually I think LEGO has enough tool related pieces now (and other items like brick build lawnmowers) that they could probably use a full floor plan to make a hardware store with living space/another business above it.

Wonder of all the bricks needed to make the side walls is the reason we haven't gotten another one like the pet shop. While I would love two half Modulars or even a half Modular every summer, people might complain. If there is debate over putting a car or a more detailed interior, imagine the debate over two extra walls.

I don't know what you are talking about. Ramp and Pit plates are the coolest and any set that has one is a treasure.
The humor on this forum is so dry at times that I honestly cannot tell if you are being ironic or not! :-)  If you are defending big ol' raised baseplates then kudos to you... if you are calling me not cool for liking them, well then I must take issue, sir!  #6195, #7327, #6079, #6983 -- these are some of my favorite sets (yes I am old).  I'm hoping that the New Pirates Ideas set will come with the baseplate shown in the original submission also...

Ok, I've taken my moral stand for the day - please resume discussing homeless minifigure wino's  :-)
I created the Bricklist on the main site that includes all the ramp and pits probably 10 years ago. I really do love them.
My childhood love for the ramp and pit plate is tempered by my childhood frustration with the one in the Fire Breathing Fortress, which used the pit as a dragon den that was easy to get a dragon into and much harder even with little kid hands to get the dragon out of.

Someone has been busy on wikipedia the last couple of days, adding that the 2020 modular is a police station ... although they are now currently banned from wikipedia.

So last year’s announcement was on Monday December 3rd. A week from today is Monday December 2nd. Really hoping that’s the day the next modular is revealed.

Also, it could get leaked sometime this week or over the weekend if we’re lucky. Fingers crossed!

I now realize that everyone was not inundated with these silly commercials featuring Mia Hamm.  Long story short, one Team USA Soccer player required a tooth filling.  Since they are a super-team, everyone else volunteered for fillings as well.  Very USA Patriotic...

    https://youtu.be/6Eifa8oqCRU

And these commercials ran every 15 minutes.

Is it possible they are stopping the Advance Modulars. I mean its December and we have no leaks, seems pretty late for that not to have happen yet.

I highly doubt LEGO would abruptly cut the entire line; they've also been tighter with leaks recently

Theyll probably wait until January 1st knowing our luck...  Hopefully the Australian price will be reasonable...

On a more positive note I think its a pretty fair chance that the Lego Ideas vintage car competition gift with purchase will be released with the 2020 modular building.  Since quite a few police cars got through maybe it is a police station possibly with a paddywagon/police van and one of the police cars (if they win the vote) would complement the set?

While I really like it when Lego surprises us with the modulars, such as something unique like Detectives Office, I do think they need to cover those important buildings that all cities need such as a post office, hotel and hospital before focusing too much on 'little things' like a bookshop + ice creamery or hardware store etc.

In saying that of course Id still love the first two of that list, they were just the ones I could think of of top of my head.

Whatever it is there are a few sources saying it has 2,504 pieces and costs 179.99... good to know CG's price isn't going to set the new standard.

Do all cities need hotels more than bookshop/libraries? (Please dont take my question the wrong way, genuinely curious about your reasoning.)

I agree on hospital, I missed a hospital so much in my otherwise ”modular line city” that I desperately got the City Hospital 60204 and tried to make it into a modular. With absolute no MOCing skills I managed to close up the backside, rise it two bricks high...so that it now can cause sore eyes and really look out of place.

I still want somewhere to buy food (market/grocery) not all my minifigures can afford dining out and there are to few dumpsters around for dumpster diving to support my minifigure population.

And I want a school for the next genrations of my minifigures to get educated. Rah, rah, rah!

What city is there where an entire hospital is just a sliver in a city street? I'm not saying it's impossible, but the thought seems a little comical to me. I've never seen a hospital that wasn't physically separate from other buildings.

^one of thee difficulties I have is incorporating non modular buildings into my modular layout aka city layout.  The hospital I believe is one of them! So much for simplicity right?

  • klintonklinton Member Posts: 1,248
The modulars are just the city high street. It should legit be only commercial spaces. The hospital would be a seperate block elsewhere, and you're covered by existing City offerings (modify them as you see fit).
A clinic would certainly be in order though, like the dentist in the last one. A post office would be fine too.

You are right. I was thinking around the line ”where one can go se a doctor”, so the correct word in English is what @klinton used: ”clinic”.

Lego can defy ”impossible”, thats why I love it!!! :-)

It allows us to go through a dentist office to get to our apartement, to ignore the fumes from a car workshop going up to the waiting area when my pet is at the vet or that to get to the dancestudio ill have to go thru a cafe AND a music shop first WITHOUT buying anything at the two latter (which in real life i would be awful at, feeling like a terrible person walking thru someones shop without buying anything - regularily too, if one consider how often i would go to any dance studio if taking classes...)

Maybe a clinic or ”care/treatment-like” with the possibility to stay one or two nights. Plastic surgery (is that the enlish word?), i have no experience but dont they put you in a room to wake up in/recover after the surgery? Maybe even allow staying over for very anxious patients. And minifigures are plastic already so...sorry, bad pun.
Some of the older looking architecture asylums turned descrete detox retreat,  could perhaps still fit in.

I was thinking a bit broader than just high street, but sure the modular line could be limited to high street only. In that case, school-something could still fit in: I know of many schools (for people of age 10 and up) and colleges or university departements that are located on main streets - either as modern buildings that made lots of people upset at the time of building, or older buildings of great heritage that really dont fit for teaching activities regardless of the number of inside reconstruction.

There won't be a clinic this time, as there was a vet in CG.
