The shapes and colors weren't groundbreaking, presumably as part of the retro feel.
The rainbow of classic space figs was the clear highlight, not their accessories or vehicles
It seems small sets are often more per piece, but it's harder to judge value for something that has a particularly high amount of minifigures.
project, and original pictures. I've actually learned a lot since my submission. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/8b153541-1956-42b7-bfec-a8f31755bc7e I'd love any feedback! So far, I've gotten little.
Which way do you like the siding better? I used a bunch of #30244 to hopefully capture the wooden look. https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-tile-1-x-2-grille-with-bottom-groove-2412-15561-30244
Personally I'm not sure why you think the detail in the second photo looks like it, given the lines on the cartoon are vertical and the grills in your photo are horizontal...
I would be tempted to try using the 1x1 Technic brick (with hole) for the side holes, rather than using the brick with stud. I think it's available in yellow.
Oh and I'm curious why your yellow ledges at each end are so rounded, when they're mostly straight in the cartoon? I'd have looked at using the 1x1 rounded brick with plate instead, which is what you've used for the sides of the roof.
I suspect those points are just me being niggly about detail though. Overall the first photo is a good job!
Then, aside from the random BH set that will be released that grabs my attention, my focus will shift to custom BHz. I'm looking forward to expanding the collection one way or another.
(Not my design - both available on Rebrickable here and here.)
Both 8 studs wide, they're together half a modular wide and have the same height, so will provide some colour/variation to my modular street!
Nice collection @monkey_roo !
oh who am I kidding, I know I will need to buy Yoda to complete my triumvirate...
Now I just need to figure out how to fit the Frozen 2 sets into one and a half square inches on their shelf...
Otherwise, you can't read the banner. And it doesn't catch the wind.
After I tackle the Mustang #10265 I need to figure out how to rearrange my shelves to fit all of the Creator Expert vehicles. I still need to rebuild #10248 as well.
Now I'm starting to think on what might be next in line next year. Hopefully they'll only release one next year though - I just can't financially keep up with all the large sets I'm wanting.
Most of the talk and negativity has been around the accessibility of the app and the box artwork, but simply as a stand alone Lego set it's terrific value and a fun build.
Right? They're just fantastic sets! In a year filled with a square tonne of amazing Lego Movie sets (my favorite theme, by far), this entire theme is still a full on standout!
I kinda hope they actually abandon the "app augmentation" for future waves, and just focus on delivering more brilliant ramshackle locales and vehicles with the haunted transformation features. Maybe switch the tie-in focus to television specials or one off direct to home films? Expose kids to the mythology of the theme, give them a little story to get attached to, and then keep churning out amazing sets! :D
"Myrtle, there aren't...Merpeople in the Black Lake, are there?"
(Excuse that extra piece down by the tail, I missed it and it got left hanging in midair! It's been deleted so it won't show up in future renders) :)
Have connected a motor and lights up to it and my 7 year old thinks its cool.
I wasn't blown away with the Hidden Side Diner, but thought the Newbury High School was excellent.
I have an issue with the open/closed back decision just now. I've generally preferred open back. As it's been said, no point doing a detailed interior if you can't see it. However, building my (too large) Hogwarts and fashioning a scaled up Clock Tower from the original Lego sets I ended up with a building that needs to look right from the front and the back. Unfortunately doesn't lend itself to open back, or front. In the end I've compromised and have hinged the back as per Old Fishing Store. It's not as easy as it looks!
Really, the only sets in the wave that I'm less than blown away with are the bus and the lab. Both are lovely builds, mind, but the bus is just a bit too over sized (dwarfing nearly everything you place it next to) and the lab just doesn't display all that well with the other, more complete structures. It feels like it's from another line, tbh.
