    Did #70841 Benny's Space Squad

While this came in a box it was so small and simple it felt like building a polybag model.
The shapes and colors weren't groundbreaking, presumably as part of the retro feel.
The rainbow of classic space figs was the clear highlight, not their accessories or vehicles

It seems small sets are often more per piece, but it's harder to judge value for something that has a particularly high amount of minifigures.

Just opened #40335, had the space stuff at the front of my backlog pile

I just built #60234 upon realizing that many elements would work well in pictures along my Casey Jr. project. I mean, obviously, LEGO would change colors, obviously, but I could picture a circus having an ice cream bike in that era.

As many of you know, I've been building Casey Jr. for Ideas. Been busy improving him, and his train. Here's the improved version of his passenger car. Next on the list is his elephant car, caboose, and him, but he has a few more parts yet to arrive. Link to p
project, and original pictures. I've actually learned a lot since my  submission. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/8b153541-1956-42b7-bfec-a8f31755bc7e I'd love any feedback!  So far, I've gotten little.

The one piece of feedback I'd give is try to take better photos! That's really quite blurry and bad quality, which makes it very difficult indeed to actually comment on the model.

@Paperballpark , thanks. I don't know why it came out blurry. Will try again!

Trying again... With this model, I was trying to capture the look of the car right behind Casey here: Or,

Which way do you like the siding better? I used a bunch of #30244 to hopefully capture the wooden look. https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-tile-1-x-2-grille-with-bottom-groove-2412-15561-30244

Those photos are much better—the second particularly—but I would still focus on your attention to detail! Why is the top cut off in the top photo, and both cropped so close? There also appears to be one grill missing on the bottom photo and two on the top (either side of the windows), unless that's intentional—and the ones that are there could do with a straighten 😉
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,270
The 1st photo looks more like the cartoon pic you posted - all the grills are vertical, which corresponds with how the lines are in the cartoon, as well as having the ledge under the window and the circles at the sides of the window.

Personally I'm not sure why you think the detail in the second photo looks like it, given the lines on the cartoon are vertical and the grills in your photo are horizontal...

I would be tempted to try using the 1x1 Technic brick (with hole) for the side holes, rather than using the brick with stud. I think it's available in yellow.

Oh and I'm curious why your yellow ledges at each end are so rounded, when they're mostly straight in the cartoon? I'd have looked at using the 1x1 rounded brick with plate instead, which is what you've used for the sides of the roof.

I suspect those points are just me being niggly about detail though. Overall the first photo is a good job!

Last night I finally put together #41613 Mr. Incredible and Frozone Brickheadz. Both were extremely simple builds overall, but I'm thrilled with the end result. I'm slowly working through my BH stockpile. I think I have 6 of the double sets left to go.

Then, aside from the random BH set that will be released that grabs my attention, my focus will shift to custom BHz. I'm looking forward to expanding the collection one way or another.

@Paperballpark @benbacardi I'm taking your advice, and my coach looks way better, thanks! However, I discovered why I used the 1x1 with one stud on one side like you figured would be better as a Technic 1x1. It's because directly behind that is the door frame, (1x4x6, type 2, so you see nothing, and it looks weird. Fortunately, 4x 6168644 add a convincing enough depth that a non LEGO fan could see a window.

Just been doing a little minor surgery transferring parts from #75104 Kylo Ren's Shuttle to #75256 Kylo Ren's Batman Shuttle ("Does it come in black?") - taking the black angled bricks from the wings of the former to replace the dark grey in the latter, and moving over the control yokes and a couple extra of those printed instrument panels inside the cockpit.  Not that I'll be opening it, but I like knowing the higher-detail interior is there.  And since it's taking the place of the old one, I have enough room on my shelf for all the new Star Wars sets.

Now I just need to figure out how to fit the Frozen 2 sets into one and a half square inches on their shelf...

I started in on #10269 over the weekend. I've been very pleased with the build so far (just one more bag to go) and definitely feel like the motorcycle will fit in very nicely with the rest of my Creator Expert vehicles. It definitely could have been improved with a full selection of chrome parts, but honestly, the light bley does look very nice as is. Better even in person than I was expecting.

Your flag poles seem a little over-excited... maybe just happy to see you?  😄
Hey, hey.  Nobody wants a flaccid pole.  Better to be rigid than floppy.

Otherwise, you can't read the banner.  And it doesn't catch the wind.

Finished up #10269 last night. I have to say, my expectations were exceeded overall. I honestly did expect to really enjoy the set after looking at reviews and photos, but it's honestly even better to me in person. I enjoyed the entire build process and it just looks great.

After I tackle the Mustang #10265 I need to figure out how to rearrange my shelves to fit all of the Creator Expert vehicles. I still need to rebuild #10248 as well.

Now I'm starting to think on what might be next in line next year. Hopefully they'll only release one next year though - I just can't financially keep up with all the large sets I'm wanting.

I had been saving some money for Star Wars Triple Force Friday, but my sons have been extra great this first part of the school year, so I decided to do something for them. We bought #60197 Lego City Passenger Train. It was a fun build: we each took an instruction book and started building. One of my boys has been wanting this train for a while, so it's going to be his to do with what he wants. He's really into Minecraft, so we might make a themed scene for the train to pass through.

Planning to build #75257 Millennium falcon tonight. Bought it last night and exercised amazing restraint by not starting right then. Because I know that if I start, I won't stop until it's done.

Just coming to the last bag of #70425. What a great little set this is, especially at the current discounts. A nice build on its own, but a fantastic basis for a larger haunted building MOC. Colours and style also lend themselves to a MOC for the winter village I think too. Certainly better than the last few winter village offerings from Lego themselves. I'd definitely pick up another one if we see 40/50% off which seems likely given that we are already at 33% so soon after release.

Most of the talk and negativity has been around the accessibility of the app and the box artwork, but simply as a stand alone Lego set it's terrific value and a fun build.

This is almost always the case, I find. I don't even bother with reviews until after I've built a set (or seen a film, or read a book, etc). There are so many extenuating factors (the general jaded indifference of most reviewers being a big one) that comprise one's personal opinion that no review can possibly address. I find reviews can't possibly convey an accurate portrait of the subject, as they're inevitably filtered through criterion that are not my own. It is fun to check out reviews in hindsight though.

Right? They're just fantastic sets! In a year filled with a square tonne of amazing Lego Movie sets (my favorite theme, by far), this entire theme is still a full on standout!

I kinda hope they actually abandon the "app augmentation" for future waves, and just focus on delivering more brilliant ramshackle locales and vehicles with the haunted transformation features. Maybe switch the tie-in focus to television specials or one off direct to home films? Expose kids to the mythology of the theme, give them a little story to get attached to, and then keep churning out amazing sets! :D

Built a recoloured fuel tanker from one of the previous cargo train sets. Fired up Mrs Speedy's cutting machine and produced some suitable stickers and hey presto....
    ....Dairy Milk wagon!
Better be careful and keep a constant eye on that, otherwise it'll be about 10% smaller next year.

@donutboy the Hidden Side boat is such a good match for the fishing shop. I've added one on the docks alongside ours.

Seeing that makes me (once again) regret not grabbing the Fishing Shop. It freaking perfectly matches the Newbury æsthetic (which I can't get enough of). I don't know why though, but as nice as it and the Creator modulars are... entirely enclosed buildings don't feel Lego-y enough for me. They're all gorgeous, but I'm put off by the idea of having to pick them up and pull them apart to appreciate the interior. Lego buildings should have an exposed back through which you can enjoy the interior.

So, yeah, I'm sure I'm quite alone on this one, but I get a bit frustrated by beautiful interiors hidden away from view. I might have to make an exception and track that one down if/when Lego stops putting out new HS buildings. It looks brilliant paired with the the HS shrimper!

I'm planning to get the Hidden Side shrimp boat for the Old Fishing Store. Just waiting for a decent price drop. I had bought  #31093 Houseboat, but sold that last week as I think the Hidden Side boat works better.

I wasn't blown away with the Hidden Side Diner, but thought the Newbury High School was excellent.

I have an issue with the open/closed back decision just now. I've generally preferred open back. As it's been said, no point doing a detailed interior if you can't see it. However, building my (too large) Hogwarts and fashioning a scaled up Clock Tower from the original Lego sets I ended up with a building that needs to look right from the front and the back. Unfortunately doesn't lend itself to open back, or front. In the end I've compromised and have hinged the back as per Old Fishing Store. It's not as easy as it looks!

The entire line is spectacular, mate.  Revisit the diner, and check out the interior. It's absolutely on par with the very finest Creator Expert designs. The patios are a bit sparse, but the terrain is well designed with staggered layers of tan plates and interesting foliage. The display is much enhanced by adding the bikers from #70421 to the patio as patrons (those two are my favorite minifigs in the line, hahaha).

Really, the only sets in the wave that I'm less than blown away with are the bus and the lab. Both are lovely builds, mind, but the bus is just a bit too over sized (dwarfing nearly everything you place it next to) and the lab just doesn't display all that well with the other, more complete structures. It feels like it's from another line, tbh.

Will do. In fairness my assessment was only from pictures and reviews. Haven’t seen it in the flesh yet. I got the lab simply to build a lab in the one day to be built haunted house. Like you, I felt the bus didn’t really fit with the rest of the line, but then I’m probably not the target age range.....

I'm stretching my #75103 First Order Transporter by 12 studs so it can hold 20 stormtroopers. It's easier than I anticipated, because LEGO pretty much just shortened the troop compartment- the rest of it is well proportioned. I'm going to redo the cockpit to have an actual window.

I just finished #75244 Tantive IV. My only complaint is with the four tail fins just in front of the escape pods. I moved them aft one stud. They still don't touch the pods, so I don't understand why the designers did what they did. It really doesn't resemble the movie model (which is pictured in the instructions!). And this is the third LEGO Tantive IV! It's really awesome otherwise.
