Debating whether I should buy the gingerbread house now or wait and see if there are any free gifts or double points promotions later on. Any word yet on what those will be?
I was going to ask exactly the same. Although I’m very tempted to buy this on Wednesday straight away (it is this Wednesday, isn’t it?).

I'm sure someone out there is building an army of Gingerbread Men...

Historically, there has been a double VIP point week in Mid-October, but usually void of meaningful GWPs. Conversely, the Christmas GWP usually comes out mid-late November with the possibility of overlapping x2 VIP points. It's a struggle I've had to think through the last two years.

I'm holding out for at least double VIP points and hoping the stars align on a promo.

That would be me. I’m up to 8! I started buying extras as soon as the first pic was leaked over the summer.

I also have 21 penguin suit guys (sadly none of the girl as it’s far too expensive)

12 x toy soldiers (from the book)

    And around 80 holiday elves!

Modulars aren't too bad - it's £150 or thereabouts, once a year. Same with WV - £85 or so, once a year.

Just be forever grateful you're not a Star Wars fan... ;)
Unless you buy all the modulars in just over two years time, but hey I guess you are right going forward from here $150 isn't too bad! I don't have a problem, nope, no problems here. :)

Double VIP at the end of October / beginning of November should be a safe bet. At least I hope so and am also delaying my purchases :)

I started to at the time of the original Gingerbread Man CMF. I got up to about 30. But when the price shot up, I sold them all off except two.

I like the new gingerbread house. I agree that it doesn’t completely fit the village theme but that doesn’t really matter because it’s such a fantastic stand alone set. Very nicely detailed. I do think I will eventually mod it into something else and make a smaller gingerbread house because to me this looks like a mansion compared to the rest of the village. A gingerbread boy and girl (with short legs) would have been awesome, but I think it’s ok for this set to have only two minifigures. However, I do wish they had printed off another couple of tiles and then there could have been a whole tray of babies baking in the oven 😆

Yes, to be fair if you're only just getting into it you might spend a lot on older modulars. I'm rather fortunate in that I got into them when the Fire Brigade was still on the shelves!

For those of you who don't feel Santa's Workshop fits the "modern" theme of the Winter Village, Lemax just released this Michael's exclusive, Kringle's Cottage. Look familiar?

Assuming that is the only theme (modular) or two (WV) you buy in any given year.  Good luck staying with just that.
I do like the Gingerbread House.  My daughter loving it might stand me a better chance of justifying VW purchase this year on depleted Lego budget.  Considering how much I (and my family) love the Christmas/Holiday season, it's surprising I haven't been on WV get em' all binge.  Yet...  (I've got 2 1/2)  Guess I'm still scratching the modular itch.

Quick question. I've picked up every Winter Village set except the last two. Does it make sense to keep both copies of the Toy Store set since they released it twice?
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,474
^I think that would be only a question you could ask. If you didn't want one of them, I'll gladly take the donation to my village!

There are differences, subtle differences. But, completionists would still want both. So they may both hold slightly less value now, but still have value.

As I said, ultimately up to you on that one. The old Toy Shop is the only set I'm missing, but am not overly concerned as I have the new one. To each their own.

@Renny I converted my old toy shop into a butchery (just put turkey piece and meat from an advent calender in show window). I think the updated version is much better (I do prefer the grey 'underarch' part as opposed green.

In saying that, the original I think had better minifigures for the 'theme' of the Winter Village (winter for one thing) and somewhat classic. I wouldnt break the bank getting the original and if you have it then theres no obligation to get the 2015 one, at the very least either could be used for parts if replaced by the opposite one.

*snobbery voice* How can you claim to have a complete Winter Village if you're missing one of the sets?  And really, is an incomplete Winter Village any Winter Village at all?  Are you even trying?

Did I hear correctly? He’s never eaten gingerbread! How is that possible?

Mine should arrive tomorrow as I couldn’t resist and bought straight away.

I’m betting that #40338 will be a freebie with a certain level of spending (based on the leaked pics of the packaging having the “Limited Edition” labeling like #40292 and #40293 ), which makes it worth it to me to delay gratification and pick this set up closer to November
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,474
^Likely mid to late November based on previous years.

So I need an opinion. I want to have an "adult" establishment in my village, like a bar or a pub. I was thinking about tweaking the design of set #10000. Would that fit in?
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,474
I think it largely depends on the aesthetic you're going for your in your village. I definitely think some of those panels could be used to make a really unique and interesting pub. Probably with just a few subtle changes, it wouldn't feel too out of place. The red/black color scheme would certainly stick out as different compared to the browns, tans, dark greens, etc... of the established WV sets.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,481
My thought was to change all the gray panels to those red timbered ones (I have a bag full), and change out all the gray brick with brown. It will give my town a Solvang vibe.

YES! Finally - according to the leaks thread, there's a standalone decent looking christmas tree that will probably be GWP before Chrimbo. Always wanted a big tree but didn't want to buy an entire WV set just to get one (can't remember which one it was, but it's the one with the big tree in it).

    Now I don't need to.

I'm new to the WV building. Planning my first one out. I've gotten the train, the station and the new Gingerbread house. that will prob be it for this year. I really don't want to pay over the top for past sets but ill be keeping my eyes open for things I can add.  Oh, I've also picked up the new City Advent calendar and one from 2015 that was a screaming deal. those will help populate my village as it evolves. Loving this forum and thread too.

anyone have a link to the 2018 WV thread that was mentioned ?
