@Switchfoot55 By the way, does this mean no Danny DeVito minifigure is included? ;-)
There's alternate instructions included to turn the house into a Danny Devito sculpture.

Oh good! At least there was some legitimacy with those Devito leaks!

Im assuming the UCS Devito alt build will be similar to the upcoming Yoda model?

Not to be picky but wouldnt it technically be an icingblower since gingerbread houses use that for snow ;)

I will be interested to see what holiday themed promos/GWPs will run with this release... perhaps some complimentary insulin?

I’m also excited about the new “gold ingot” piece re-colored in tan— will be quite useful for modular building MOCs

Speaking of other uses for the recolored parts, I can't wait to see those new diamond pieces from the star on the tree show up in Classic Space and Blacktron MOCs!

I wonder what filling the kid will grow up with, if the snow blower doesn't get him/her first. Pink genes from the mother and brown genes from the father.

Ok, so clearly outside ovens to bake things like bread, or in this case gingerbread babies/cookies, are not a widespread thing.
I grew up in Dallas.  If a house has a fireplace it is inside, at least from the houses that I have observed.  Seeing one on the outside of the house was just way different for me.

Like I said, not a fireplace. It's an oven. It "runs" on wood, like a fireplace, and the way it's designed it ends up having a connection with the inside (which can also be seen as energetically useful, since the heat from the oven may also heat up the house), but that is a characteristic of the set itself.
The oven outside of the house is very common in rural Portugal (the designer is Portuguese) where people cook things like bread or even entire meals. It may, or may not, be directly attached to the house, as is the case.

In the set, the oven is inside the house, and the baby can fit in that one.

I forgot to mention: it's my interpretation of the thing. I don't know for sure what the idea of the designer was.
For me, it's a baking oven. If (or when) I buy the set, it will serve that purpose: making gingerbread babies. :)

There’s a big trend in outdoor fireplaces and outdoor ovens, especially pizza ovens, in the US lately too.

@madforLEGO Its funny how houses for lego minifigures rarely, if ever, include any kind of bathroom
(I may be mistaken but at least from what I remember I dont think we've EVER had a bathtub in a minifigures house yet)

Yet the gingerbread people get a fully furnished house, the only thing missing probably is some sort of laundry, not that thats necessary.

I really didn't want it to be a Gingerbread house, but I have to say it looks pretty damn good. It has far more of a village feel to it than last year's Fire Station. But then, it is a cottage... ;)

I really wish this building design had been used for a B&B or small hotel/lodge. It would have looked great and is much needed.

With this design they really shouldve made it a sweet shop but still included the gingerbread people as statues which people could have come alive if they wished.

People defending WV fantasy always bring up Santa's workshop but
    1. Santa could be a dressed up volunteer for charity
    2. The building at least fitted in fine with the rest of the village so one could leave everything else out if they were really annoying them and
    3. Santa is the most iconic/important part of Christmas from a secular perspective.

Gingerbread men on the other hand really arent that important so to make something that is so out of place really bugs me. Its a great set, but it really shouldve been done as a standalone Seasonal set instead of WV.

Snoke should have been given more backstory too...

^I completely understand your rationale, and don't necessarily disagree. But the more I've viewed the photos on this one, the more and more I'm loving it. That might not be saying much as I really liked it on the first reveal too.

I've just come to realize that there are 15 other buildings I want Lego to release for the WV. But they do what they do, and I'm just along for the ride. I'll gladly take whatever offerings they choose to provide and will create my own versions of buildings I wish they'd create. Occasionally there might be overlaps, but chances are, my dream list and their actual list will continue to be different. And that's not necessarily bad.

The new set seems very easily modified for those who are not happy with the gingerbread theme. Replace the confectionery and gingerbread family and you have another version of the WV cottage - or replace the gingerbread family with a Hansel and Gretel and a witch and you've got a fairy tale theme.

@Cymbeline Lots of people have said its easy to convert this to a 'realistic' cottage, im not quite sure how thats possible.

It would take a lot of MOCing and after all, even if you take all the sweets off and change the windows, the white and nougat (is that the colour name) will still look like a gingerbread house.

Most of all, for myself and my fellow Australians at least, this is $150 AU!! With part orders + postage youd be looking at nearly $200 for a cottage, not to mention the time it would take. Would that really be worth it? Especially when I at least already have the WV Cottage. (and comparing Gingerbread house to all the other buildings, especially the first 3 it would look like a manor house or lodge, not that that would necessary be a bad thing)

@Swit@Switchfoot55 Yes, it is a lovely set, my absoulte only issue is how niece it is compared to the others and the Australian price. But the designer has done a BRILLIANT job with this, dont get me wrong.

I would like to see your list of 15 buildings.

For me its, (in no particular order and Ill think of more later)

    Hotel, B&B, inn, lodge

    Butchery

    Sweet shop

    small bank branch

    small country police constabulary

    Town hall (unoffical church)
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,485
@Brickchap, I totally agree that, of all the current sets it is the most unique. And I also agree that mods to it would likely add up quickly.

I randomly picked the number 15, but here is my unofficial list (in no particular order):

    Church
    Sweet shop
    Water mill
    Diner/Eatery
Town Square Stage (formalize the stalls from the market a bit more)
    Ski lodge/chalet
    Ski hill/lift
    Police station
    Another home/cottage
    Christmas Parade
    WV sewage works
    Coffee Shop

The are other buildings that don't necessarily fit the WV theme, but I think would be fun to MOC up.

Honestly, all you would have to do is switch the windows, take the candy pieces off the roof, and switch out the candy cane poles around the windows.  You'd have a perfectly nice wooden cottage with white trim.  I could see making pretty minor changes to some of the white arches on the roof to make it look less regular as well, but mostly it already looks like it could be snow, so you don't even have to modify the white on the roofing that much.

@Brickchap - The only nougat is on the chimney and real bricks do exist in that colour. The house itself seems to be brown so could easily pass for wood. I would change the white trim on the walls to a colour but leave all the white on the roof as it looks like snow. Just my quick take on it.
    LittleLori
  • BrickchapBrickchap Member Posts: 1,551
@Cymbeline Yes, that would work. Sorry everyone I forgot the walls were brown coloured. But brown with white trim, one must admit, would look like a gingerbread house.

Perhaps a dark brown or tan? But as we've all agreed, regardless of what one does it would be quite expensive to MOC.

If the Gingerbread House all of a sudden loses its candy and Mr and Mrs Gingerbread disappear from their house, surely it’s just an “accident” in the name of The Greater Good.

Hi all, don’t winter village sets normally have the words ‘winter village’ in the name of the set?  I notice that this set is just called ‘ginger bread house’. Could it be that this is meant to be a standalone set?

Haven’t posted in a long time regarding WV, and I say this often, but it looks fun! It should fit nicely with a lot of the previous sets - particular the winter village cottage imo.

Absolutely loving the Gingerbread House. I bought Santa's Workshop as it perfectly encapsulates 'Christmas' for me, as do some of the seasonal promo sets we get (carousel, snowglobe, the mini GB house). This aligns perfectly to that.

I shy away from the WV range as it's not quite Christmassy enough for my (YMMV) and of course it's too expensive and is the gateway drug to a Modulars addiction, and I'm avoiding that like the plague.

This avoids that eventuality and I can easily see Santa and the Gingerbread Man enjoying a chat while looking after the baby, and meanwhile the ladies are drinking by the fire, and checking that the elves are not misbehaving.

Having a village next door would be more odd in my view, but again, there's rooms in everyone's WV Lego display for a little seasonal magic!

Modulars aren't too bad - it's £150 or thereabouts, once a year. Same with WV - £85 or so, once a year.

It's funny because I had so many people tell me that once you get one modular that's it you'll have to have them all. This year, after quite a few years of collecting, I was given the Downtown Diner for my birthday. Its a very nice set but honestly I've not actually finished building it yet, and I started in March.

I like the set and it's been a fun build but personally I get much better value from smaller sets. I love the WV line, its the one thing I have no problem justifying RRP each year, modulars though just don't interest me.

I first got into the WV to be honest, by the GWP of that little Santa's Elves Workshop I go with the Creator Expert Mini (which was gifted to me by the GF (now wife)). Just after that, a mate of mine got the Parisian, and that was that.

Good thing is, the wife can never blame me for buying WV-Lego; it's all her fault! ;)

I was actually wondering what it was going to do to #40139, which has been astronomically priced for a bit now.  Looks like the price has already been shaved about 1/3 off from what it was the last time I checked. Maybe I'll actually be able to justify picking one up one day now!

I'd be surprised if this was costly on the aftermarket, given that Lego was trying everything to get rid of them last year. I've personally seen boxes upon boxes of the things. I probably have about half a dozen myself somewhere. To me, they're virtually worthless.
