Man. Walmart really wants to preempt that Prime Day $$$!

They must not have had many of the Carousel. It's already out of stock. Boo!

Thanks for the head's up though!

Amazon price match appears to be over... how do I keep missing all these amazing deals?!
  • autolycusautolycus Member Posts: 1,430
Ahh!!! I checked Amazon several times and it was still $200. That’s ok. Last few large sets I’ve gotten from them, including the Ferris Wheel, were packed so badly it took several times to get one that’s box wasn’t completely crushed and destroyed in shipping.

Can confirm Walmart clearance. As usual never know what you’ll find. Stopped at store 1. Didn’t see any tags at first. Scanned CaptainRogers sets and no go. Spotted one #75211. Shelf said $56. Scanned $15. What??  Box a little beat up but so what. Scanned #76101. $3. Then saw shelf 2 deep with clearance on box. Then another shelf 2 deep. 32 Copies in all. Found 3 clearance stickers but no stock. That was all. Shelves relatively empty.

Went to store 2. Many sets across many themes with clearance stickers in shelf. All were scanning sticker price. Most from 20-30% off WM price. Not bad. A couple a little higher, couple little lower.

Now to gamble if stock will stay so I can snare at next discount - and check a couple more stores.

Checked a local store last night. Aside from $1-$2 dollars off here or there, there really wasn't much on a deal.

We all know WM is all over the place on clearance, but I'd say check often right now.  Seems WM tends to clean up their clearance and change prices Thursday evenings (at least around here) so perhaps many store will change tomorrow.

I found one store last Friday that had all kinds of clearance prices.  I've checked a 2nd store 2 times including yesterday.  Only a couple clearance and shelves are actually quite empty.  Checked a 3rd store yesterday and nothing was on sale.  Going to 4th store today to see what's up and probably hit up a couple tomorrow to see if there's any change.

I'm leaving on a road trip on Saturday and will likely make a few stops along the way to check what's out there while I'm on the road. I'm sure my wife will understand.......

Just came back from WM #4.  Not a single clearance sticker in sight, but I scanned a number of sets and found that most of the ones that have been mentioned already showed on up on clearance price.  I bet tomorrow the stickers show up.

I really want #31084.  Two stores close to me have a number of them for $54.  I'm hoping it'll drop again before they disappear.

According to Brickseek, there's two in stock at a Walmart near me for $19! I couldn't find them in the store. It's on my way home, so I figured it was worth stopping there. Now there are several stores with them for $54; I'm perfectly happy to buy one (or two...) at that price.
  • starfire2starfire2 Member Posts: 1,335
The online price jumped back up to $74 and no longer says clearance above it.
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,353
Go figure! I've checked all the stores nearby, and several locations on my upcoming road trip. The lowest I've seen is $54. Fingers crossed there is some price movement as I'd love to add this to my collection.

The clearance items and prices I have seen havent really had me jumping to buy.

BTW, the department managers get "clearance dollars" and can apply them at times however they like.  They may get $100 and apply $5 off on 20 sets or $25 off on 4 sets, or any other combination.  It is good to get to know who those people are.

I can see where some of the clearance inconsistencies between stores could be explained that way, but I gotta believe most clearance (at least on Lego) is more centrally directed.

Walmart has regional markdowns that are sent to each store each week, then the employees at store level go through the list and mark stuff down. In addition to that, each store has a budget for markdowns, and the store managers determine if there is any markdown money to split up to each department. I was an assistant manager for 7 years for Walmart before I went back to school for CS.

Not really, a couple of years ago I was talking with the Toy manager and suggested she put all her available clearance dollars on Jurassic Park sets...& if she did, I'd buy them all....she did....and I did.

Today, however, most managers know that lego will move without the discounts, and they want to move out slower moving toy items, so that is where most their clearance dollars go now.

My question is: When does the price drop to a greater discount? Is it every Monday, Tuesday, etc.. Or is that to the store discretion as well?

Walmart.com has some baseplates on sale/clearance:
    #10701 XL gray baseplate 11.83
    #10700 Classic green baseplate 5.69

Good deals if you are looking for baseplates

Probably no rhyme or reason to it. I've been waiting for #76112 to go down, it's been at $74 for at least 3 weeks.

I think it all depends on whether or not they have additional clearance dollars to put against it.   If the manages has allocated it all, there is nothing more to give it.  When and how they go deeper I dont know.

But I do know when they do allocate the clearance discounts, it is when shoppers are around, so it never hurts to ask them and give them suggestions.

One thing many people dont know or even do, is you can negotiate with Walmart on prices.  Outside of clearance items, I had to buy a bunch of trash cans for resale, went to the store manager with my resale card and the purchased the cans 15% off of the posted price.

    ^ What’s a Resale Card?
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 835
^^ Is that something new??  In years past you could "possibly" get a 10% discount on bulk items but you had to find the store manager....which inedibly was never in the actual store.
A few years back I found a 5-6 LEGO Minecraft sets ($70RRP each) on top of a shelf that was all toy clearance. They were all smashed....so I checked prices....still full price...found a dept. manager...told he I was going to give them to the local library for their LEGO league....he said they were run over by a forklift but the best he could do was get the store manager to knock off 10%.

** Can't stores like Walmart, Target return damaged LEGO to get some/most/all of their money back?  They use to
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,001

A sellers permit that states you are tax exempt on  purchases since you will be collecting the  tax when you resell, and then you send it on to the state.

Several clearance signs in lego aisle for about 35% off MSRP. Nothing worth it for resale/part put but some good deals if you want the set personally

    #41369 Mia's House $30
    #41352 Big Race Day $25
    #41368 Andrea's Talent Show $25
#41345 Heartlake City Pet Centre $25

    #10764 City Central Airport #21
    #75952 Newt's Case $21
    #42073 Bash! $7
    #42072  Whack! $7
    #42090 Getaway Truck $9
    #42089 Powerboat $7
    #60217 Fire Plane $25
    #60173 Mountain Arrest $25
    #60174 Mountain Police HQ $35
    #70658 Oni Titan $21
    #70638 Katana V11 $11
    #76112 App-controlled Batmobile $49
    #70838 Queen Watevra's Space Palace $49
I skipped the Porg for $30 and BB-8 for $40 because I already have them and someone beat me to Indoraptor Rampage for $69. That's annoying but I was very surprised to see #70838 discounted so heavily already because none of the other LM2 sets are on clearance at this store yet.
