First two harry potter sets arrived :)

I built the Great Hall last week. I usually don't enjoy the process with buildings as much as I do with vehicles. I do enjoy the end result more. In this case, the build was really fun. The only tedious bit is the windows. It's just a lot. Other than that I loved the whole process. It's such a nice set.

How it works when 2019 sets will be released? 2018 will be removed from shops or discounted a bit? or it can be both
  • MCNwakeboardMCNwakeboard VirginiaMember Posts: 258
If I had to guess, I would say the 2018 sets will be around through December 2018.
  • ersiersi SlovakiaMember Posts: 161
Okay I just hope it wont be like 1st June comes and all 2018 will be gone from shops :D

    Oh it's really nice.

Just an opinion, but having built the great hall, and looking at this pic too, I think the tower needs another quarter.

In my opinion theese 3 sets together are alot better than #71043, I love how you can connect them

I agree with you totally. I'm trying to imagine how it looks put together with Hagrid's hut and the Quiditch sets too, and other bits of Hogwarts grounds

I feel that 71043 is meant to be a model and builders challenge while these are meant to be playable and reworkable.   71043 was a great build and looks fantastic on display but is not playable.  Great Hall, Whoomping Willow, and the clock tower I can see recombining and building my own Hogwarts MOC or playing with as is for hours. Different purposes and different audiences.

Ugh I can't wait for the clocktower! For us it is not available on the lego site until July 1, but some European stores on Bricklink have it so I may just bite the bullet because I'm too impatient ;)

Didn't realise Harry Potter had different hairstyles. Knight bus and Expecto Patronum have the old hairstyle, Triwizard Tournament has a recoulered new Lloyd hair.

Just been building the second bag of the clocktower and I'm in love with the stained window. Also thought the scene needed Harry in the bath so...

The ball scene uses pieces from the disco car from TLM2 and is well fun to twirl around (not got the right pairings yet). Do think lego might have missed a trick but letting you twirl it from the top (you need to push the plate around with your fingers). Should have been fairly easy to implement that in my view. Still, really enjoying the new sets.
@SparkyHam when I'm done (probablytthe weekend) I'll put all the sets together in my grounds and take some pictures for you.
Everyone just loves watching Harry shower!

I bought Expecto Patronum! today, and I just noticed the box only says «7+»! The stigma is finally gone :D

@J0rgen I didn't realise that, but yes you are right, the Clocktower also says 9+.

I'm one bag away from finishing the set now :( I thought it was Gryffindor common room, but it includes the Defense of the dark arts classroom and (off course) the hospital.

The build is very 'dense'. what I mean that there are so many indentations and curves and sort of lines in the building some bricks get bunched up together. Not necessarily a bad thing, I think the front looks pretty nice. But it does mean that there's not that much room in the rooms. I can not wait to start Moding it!!

A bit dissapointed that there's no stained glass window in the midle of the clock tower. Before I heard of the set coming out I was MOCing this building and that was my focal point to be honest. Still, that is easily changed. Really enjoying the new wave.

Oh and I like the use of the new corner arch type brick from the big castle to use here as an ornamental thing.

@snowhitie I can't wait to buy the set primarily because of that mermaid window! (Planning on using it in a MOC of mine) :)

It is absolutely stunning. The stickers in this set are really something else. It is even more red than in the picture above (depends on the lighting).Hope you'll be able to find it around soon!

I'm pretty sure the beds in #75953 Whomping Willow are supposed to represent the Gryffindor common room. It is a bit unfortunate that the doll-house style of these Hogwarts sets leaves the interior a bit cramped, but it lowers the price and still looks fantastic.

    Quick question

Ive just sold my first wave castle and caved and bought the new one. Much better build and looks fab. Obviously then had to buy the great hall and now looking to buy the clock tower.

Is it wortg buying the hogwarts express?
Is it any better than the previous one which I have anyway?
  • wardmwardm BelgiumMember Posts: 537
I like this hogwarts express better than the last one (2010 if i remember correctly), it’s a bit more accurate in design and the interior looks more detailed, plus it includes the trolley witch and a nice platform for king’s cross station.

@Baby_Yoda yes you are right, the dormitory was in the Whomping Willow set, but I meant the actual common room with the fire etc, when I saw the first pictures I thought it was that, but just my bad! I like what you have done @J0rgen , I don't own any of the previous sets frop HP, but had started on some furniture and it will definitly be one of the rooms in my final Hogwarts.

I definitly didn't mean to sound disparaging about the sets, I think they have done a great job, it's lovely to get so many different important plot points and lots of lovely charachters in there. Love the fact that it's sort of a modular build-up so every kid can hopefully get one part of the castle at least if they want too, and others (or adults) can collect the whole thing, without having the shell outa  lot of money in one go.

My reason for Mod-ing is definilty not because I'm not happy with it, just because I just can't get enough of Harry Potter.

@legomental I don't own the older train, but I think if you manage to pick one up at a reasonable price still (amazon uk has done them at a third off together with Argos), it's definilty a great set, some lovely figures, nice detailing and like @wardm said, the station. You might need an extra carriage (or 2) though!

I don't think anyone could acuse you of being 'disparaging' about this theme. Your enthusiasm for the HP sets is fun. It's that kind of excitement I visit fan forums to see! I'm not much of a HP fan myself (I did really enjoy the FB films and the sets Lego did for them though), but your excited gushing about these sets has me eyeing them every time I'm in the store. If I end up with a Lego HP collection, I'm absolutely blaming you. :D

@J0rgen very nice! Are you planning on buying and modding the clock tower as well?
  • J0rgenJ0rgen NorwayMember Posts: 192
Thanks @wardm :) I will get the Clocktower, but I haven't decided on modding it yet, although I think that too might benefit from an extra floor. Unlike the Great Hall and The Whomping Willow, I will only get one, though. If I move Dumbledore's office from the great tower to where it is in the Clocktower, I will add a spiral staircase beneath it (maybe even with a gargoyle in front), and in the Clocktower itself, I will add another classroom (probably McGonnagall's). I will have to replace the black window frames with brown ones, as I don't have any more in black, but I don't think that will spoil the outwards appearance too much. Widening the structure by two bricks on each side would probably look good, but I will have to wait till I build it (which might not be before Christmas) to see if it's possible.

If they were to do another Harry Potter themed CMF series, how long do you think they’d wait in-between? Like how long was it between Simpsons 1 & 2 for comparison
  • wardmwardm BelgiumMember Posts: 537
^my guess is that it will be around the same time the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise comes out. The release date of the third movie has been pushed back a year later, so it might take two more years...
  • wardmwardm BelgiumMember Posts: 537
And two figures LEGO needs to release are a madam Pomfrey to go with the clock tower set and an updated professor Sprout, though they might make a green house set including her one day?
  • J0rgenJ0rgen NorwayMember Posts: 192
I'm expecting a second series to go with the waves for either film 5-6 or 7-8. I don't expect them to do much related to FB after Grindelwald, so I don't imagine that will affect the releases much.

Seems a handy compromise between the 2 different RIBBA frame sizes I normally use. Is this a new RIBBA size or something else?

  • ersiersi SlovakiaMember Posts: 161
@dmcc0 Im not sure if it is new frame, but yes it is ribba frame 30x40. This size was good because I could use A3 print on background
  • dmcc0dmcc0 Nae far fae AberdeenMember Posts: 663
^Website only lists the 23x23 or 50x50 with the depth to take a minifig. The 30x40 seems to just be a regular frame so maybe something new.  Didn't see anything last time I was instore a few weeks ago though...

My Clock tower set just arrived in the mail! Can't wait to open it. I decided I couldn't wait for it to come out in stores July 1 in the US so I ordered it from Belgium via Bricklink ;) One week early is pretty good!

@Glacierfalls265 I'm now going to miss having that sticker when I eventually get the set. It looks very good!

I've just seen the new Harry Potter book in a store. The picture shows that the red/green/yellow/blue 2x2 tiles use stickers for the four house crests. However, the 2x2s are actually printed in the set. I think even the 4000 piece Hogwarts Castle used stickers so this could be worth a purchase.

I built the Knight Bus and while I like it, I find it too short.  Gonna mod it and make it at least 4 studs longer if not more.
