the theme minecraft has been going strong for 5+ years, this discussion will be for ideas and predictions in the theme... please don't add off theme unless its a cross over set or an skin pack idea... first of my posts will include a picture of the set and how it would look, mobs it could include, and predicted cost....

One prediction is that LEGO Minecraft will end and be replaced by Overwatch, which we already know is coming.

It's been rumored that we'll get buildable figures Build-a-bob/ construct a zurg style featuring printed 2x4s that were seen in the same database as the 2019 Ninjago part leaks

all right... first idea for the 2019 spring wave!
    THE TRIDENT SHRINE
    cost: 15.00$
this idea set includes drowned, Steve, and tropical fish...
main action feature: hidden sponge and trident holding shrine
this set would require a new trident but the one in the picture is the Atlantis gold trident, a bigger head for the drowned, and a new fish mold,

Pfff...Overwatch...who plays that anymore? That's like sooo several years ago! Fortnite is like totally in right now!

Although it probably won't happen, it would be cool to see a larger build with a "redstone contraption" play feature. Like a hidden technic and levers thing that you could make a figure fall down a hole or control a door (kind of like the temple set but more) by triggering it somehow and it would click the button on the back of a light brick to represent a redstone lamp (lighting the set). It wouldn't have to be too complicated, but something more like a larger play feature.

I assumed they were joking, considering how many comments to that effect I remember seeing when Lego Minecraft itself was announced.

An Overwatch theme seems like a fairly smart bet not just because of being colorful and approachable but also because it stands a good chance of being a big hit in east Asia, a market Lego has long desired to gain a stronger foothold in. South Korea in particular is hugely into Overwatch from what I've seen (and Japan to a slightly lesser extent).

Next year is Minecraft's tenth anniversary. It'd be strange if they ended it there. That'd be like giving your spouse divorce papers as an anniversary gift.
I think we'll see Minecraft sort of slow down and fade away rather than suddenly go out with a bang. At this point it'd be wiser for Lego to just release fewer sets if they think their audience is shrinking rather than quit altogether after this big year.

I love the Minecraft sets. The latest wave had the Bedroom adventures really over priced although it is a good set for kids. I love building Minecraft sets - they are just really nice and easy to build, and go together pretty fast (owing to real actual bricks 2x4`s being used). It will be sad if they stop the theme as its the only theme my son asks Lego for and we enjoy playing together.

Baby_yoda yes that could be the case... but remember Minecraft is YouTube’s 2018 most watched videos... well fortnight did get close but still to this day Minecraft is 2nd most played game

I agree, I love this theme and will probably never stop buying unless they stop production... which won’t hopefully happen for another decade...

Lol. Just seen the comments. Yes, spell check can be annoying sometimes (and its made even harder sometimes when you live in a foreign country and the settings keep going back to French!). In this case, I find the change in spell check funny!! Bedroom adventures would be a great Minecraft set!!!! :-)

Bedroom adventures would be the battle minigame map Shrunk. It looks like a massive bedroom that you have to fight in. I would actually love some sets based off the minigames.

^ We do already have the newly released #21145 Skull Arena, and honestly the official images don't do it justice. It looks a lot less messy in real life.
  • FowlerBricksFowlerBricks USAMember Posts: 1,671
^That one is definitely going the right direction. The new skins look amazing! The arena isn't half bad either.

Yeah, I only got it to complete my collection of player skins, but the build is pretty cool. It's clearly designed for play, but it does surprisingly well on display too in my opinion.

^ That does sound interesting. I think a lot of Minecraft sets try (and fail) to conform to the goodies vs baddies model that many other Lego sets for that audience follow. This last wave with #21145 Skull Arena and #21146 Skeleton Attack is getting closer. It's really nice that into the game's tenth year the developers are still adding content. I'd be flabbergasted if we didn't see a shipwreck at some point - it'd be super appealing to kids and it wouldn't need to be at all big.

my guess is that we would get a shipwreck for 30$ in a wave, we aways get a natural spawning structure, so we could...

I expect we'll see some sets based on the Update Aquatic. It provides a good opportunity for separate sets that incentivize buying related sets. For example: An underwater ruin set in the ~$30 range, with a ruin, a hidden chest with buried treasure map, one or two Drowned, nautilus shells, a trident, and a dolphin. Then there could be a larger ~$60 beach/island set with a small base, maybe a sugar cane farm, a couple turtles with a nest, a turtle shell helmet, a couple Drowned, and a buried treasure feature with a heart of the sea.

As for other sets, I'm surprised we haven't yet seen a desert temple. I suppose the reason is it would need to be relatively large, and could reasonably have only a couple play features. I'm also surprised there hasn't been a beacon in any of the sets with bases. A small one wouldn't require too many pieces.

Very true... I’m still confused why there is not a desert temple set... in fact it is the most underrated biome, only 2.5 sets that are centered around the desert... the .5 is the village.
Good idea with the ocean themed sets!

I think Minecraft in general is moving to smaller, more kid-friendly sets. Five sets this year have been equal or lower than all previous sets in price, some of which are among the theme's best yet in my opinion. I suppose the concept of Lego Minecraft doesn't appeal to AFOLs in the same way Star Wars does, and so larger sets simply aren't as popular. Minecraft hasn't really been a game for adults for many years now. The Village must have done reasonably well for Lego to go ahead with The Mountain Cave, but I wonder if the latter's been selling well.
On the topic of a desert temple, I can think of two viable routes for Lego to take:
    1. "The Treasure Room" (or whatever). Price point of $20-$30 USD. Depicts the bottom of the treasure pit in a desert temple. Similar size and shape as The Dungeon. Features include an exploding floor. Comes with Alex/Steve and a relevant hostile mob
    2. "The Sand Temple" (or whatever). Price point of $60-$80 USD. Super-compressed desert temple with a bunch of not-entirely-relevant features: think The Ocean Monument. Comes with Steve, Alex, and a few random mobs.

good idea! an additional idea is you could make them stack to make a full version of the desert temple...

I guess if more sets were coming this year we would have caught wind of them by now. I wonder if the BigFig series didn't do well enough to merit a second wave or if it will just be next winter.
  • SeanTheCollectorSeanTheCollector BirminghamMember Posts: 764
I would guess they will drip feed us a few sets for the next couple of years to keep the license active and then we will get a decent wave of sets for the movie targeted for release in March 2022.
  • SMCSMC UKMember Posts: 1,837
I have always found Minecraft very hard to predict, we dont seem to be at peak Lego Minecraft (when we were getting D2Cs).

I am guessing the BigFig series will go the way of unikitty and be series one 'and only'. If steve doesn't sell well what hope is there for others.

This was the rumoured summer wave:

    21153 - The Wool Farm - 260 pcs
    21154 - The Blazing Bridge - 372 pcs
    21155 - The Creeper Mine - 834 pcs

In the past Minecraft has been late to leak/be shown so these could still be happening.

As for the film, you know it came out in this month with Steve Carrell (oh wait). Not sure Lego can keep a line going just to wait for a film that may happen.

The two normal sets we got this year were good, I thought Overwatch might be the end of Minecraft but now its hard to know what will happen with each line next year.

^ Thanks. I think Minecraft waves tend to be later than other themes - usually March and September-ish down here versus January and June-July. I'm pretty sure the movie was planned for like, 2015 or 2016 initially, so I have low hopes for it. As for the bigfigs, those sold pretty well down here - in fact, this whole wave has. But local stock levels isn't exactly decisive evidence.

I know LEGO Minecraft doesn't get discussed very much here, so apologies for resurrecting this thread!

Anyway, we've got the first wave of 2020 sets:

    #21156 BigFig Creeper and Ocelot
#21157 BigFig Pig with Baby Zombie
    #21158 The Panda Nursery
    #21159 The Pillager Outpost
    #21160 The Illager Raid
    #21161 {?}
    #21162 The Taiga Adventure
    #30394 The Skeleton Defense

I've already picked up the Panda set and will definitely be adding the remaining ones to my collection at some point. I'm especially looking forward to getting the various new Illagers.

The question, however, is: What on earth is #21161? Have any details been leaked about this set anywhere?
Oh, also, do we know how the #30394 polybag will be made available and when?

I'm mainly interested in the Creeper bigfig, that one looks really good in spite of the ocelot.

Interesting... I wasn't quite as taken by 2.0, as I was by the original Crafting Box, as I just thought the builds and the selection of bricks were not quite so interesting, although there were some welcome additions, such as the horse and slime.

We love Minecraft in our household. We were super excited to see that Lego are sticking with the theme. I think the various exciting updates to the game have really breathed new life into the theme.

We have the Panda set and Tiaga Adventure. Really looking forward getting the Pillager and Illager sets, although here in Switzerland the Illager set is far too expensive! Waiting for a discount or to get it from Amazon UK or Germany.

I previously read somewhere about the Crafting box, but not seen anything else about other sets.

Time to resurrect our old Minecraft thread! :-)

I'm sure you've already seen the two new sets on the Brickset homepage and they are exactly as predicted by @Bumblepants. Good skills! :-)

    #21161 The Crafting Box 3.0
    #21163 The Redstone Battle

I'm not massively excited about the new Crafting Box, as it doesn't seem to have anything particularly new. There are some Birch gates, posts and fences, a new-style door and the usual Steve, Alex, Creeper & Pig.
It does look like there are a few of the new-ish 2x4 jumper plates in Green, which is nice and, finally, is there a Black implement in the chest? Perhaps it's just the usual Brown and the lighting making it look darker.
Other than that, I like the look of the four builds, so I'll look forward to seeing more details, as they come out.

The Redstone Battle is based on the new Minecraft Dungeons game, which I have played a little of, but not enough to form any major conclusions. It is set in a Minecraft-style world with Zombies, Creepers etc. but it is not a building game, more of a traditional adventure game. I've not encountered the strange-looking Redstone creature in this set, so have no idea as to their accuracy, but they look pretty impressive, with some printed parts and a lot of trans-red tiles! They seem to have been built in a very similar way to the Minecraft BigFigs that have been released, although meant to be Minifig scale.
Four new characters are a welcome addition and there is a new double-headed Axe and two Sickles, which do not appear in normal Minecraft.

It will be interesting to see whether Lego continue to release further Minecraft Dungeons-related sets and whether they will entirely replace the release of standard Minecraft ones. Personally, I may get The Redstone Battle, simply for completeness-sake, but I'm not 100% sure I'd continue to buy further Dungeons sets.

Going back to the sets released earlier in the year, I now have them all, but had to resort to eBay for #30394 The Skeleton Defense!
I really like all the sets, although have not yet built #21159 The Pillager Outpost. The Pandas are brilliant and I really like the new Villager and Illager minifigs and also the brick-built Ravager in #21160 The Illager Raid. Overall, a very good release, I thought!

^ The Crafting Box 3.0 is really weak, the build looks ok but it really needs a new colour horse or something.

Didn't know about the Minecraft Dungeons game, thanks for that.

With Mario adding to all the other themes surly something has to give and I always thought it would be Minecraft but I have been writing it off for years.

What ever happened to the film which kept get putting back?

@SMC Totally agree, the new Crafting Box should have had at least something new, rather than yet another Steve, Alex, Pig, Creeper. I suppose the lanterns on the top of the tower are new representations of in game assets, but that's being very, very generous!

Re: Dungeons, I got an email from Mojang inviting me to a Beta, so it's not on general release yet.

Regarding Minecraft in general, I think it is still extremely popular, if my daughters and their friends, plus all the YouTube streamers are anything to go by, plus Mojang have been releasing some excellent new content and look to be continuing to do so, so I'll be very happy to see Lego Minecraft continue. Not too much down the Dungeons route though!
