A bogus facts Bonusball by Mr_Cross - 18th May draw

Mr_CrossMr_Cross East Anglia (UK)Member Posts: 1,025
You probably know how these work, but for the uninitiated: Fifty-nine comments equate to fifty-nine balls in the UK National Lottery draw (or whatever it's called these days). The "bonusball" pulled out on Saturday's draw dictates who has won. One entry per person, please refrain from further commenting until 59 posts have been made. Open Worldwide.

This week, I'd like your fake LEGO facts, your plastic brick related statistical shenanigans, your made-up nonsense and your down-right LEGO lies.

Mine, as examples:
"...a 2017 survey estimated that there is (on average) approximately half a kilo (1lb) of lost LEGO in every school playing field."

"Doctors remove LEGO from 2.25% of people who present themselves at Accident and Emergency, surprisingly, 60% of those cases involved people over 21."

"I own four of five 24 carat gold limited edition 'Goldmember' minifigures that LEGO made to promote the last Austin Powers film, they're worth about 1.7 million dollars..."
Just meant to be a bit of fun really, the sillier the better, but if you don't find creative writing fun or isn't your forté, just tell us something interesting you learned about LEGO in the last week, but please give us any background or links to "back-up" your answer...

I may give extra credit for the most humourous, but currently there are no extra prizes, just one, a new and sealed, as yet unidentified 'The LEGO Movie 2' collectible minifigure.

The bonusball relies on people volunteering to host, so anyone that felt able, please PM @snowhitie (keeper of the list) so that we can have these more often. It would be most appreciated.

Good luck :-)

All themes that fans ask to come back never actually went away.
They are still being made in extremely limited quantities & if you have not got hold of the sets, it's because you're not a big enough fan to know the location of the hidden vault

    Cheers for hosting

The three most common things to be surgically removed from aardvark rectums in the year 2017 to 2018 were:

    1) USB flash drives - fun fact the most come size was 16GB
    2) avocado stones
    3) 2x4 Lego Bricks - fun fact 1 in 10 of these were rare marbled bricks!

https://curiosity.com/topics/how-strong-is-a-single-lego-and-why-does-stepping-on-one-hurt-so-much-curiosity/  Apparently it takes 953 pounds of force to deform a LEGO.  I wondered about fake facts with using it as a real building material, so thank you google for coming up with the deformation strength of a piece of plastic, I”m just not sure which piece they used to find that number, but I’m not sure I could make up any fake facts that would work.

Fun Fact: The hair pieces for Exo Force are actually a type of experimental cabbage grown in India. Originally it was intended for storing in large quantities for the apocalypse, but when the plants produced very small, very rubbery cabbages, the scientists were at a loss for what to do with them. Lego stepped in and bought all of them on the spot. Obviously some of them had to be dyed to work with the characters, but all in all, I think it was a good decision on Lego's part. After all, waste not, want not, right?

10% of Technic fans keep their sets well oiled. 50% of those people realise you need to disassemble, clean, reassemble, and re-oil those sets every so many years to remove dirt and old silicone even if they are meant to be "permanent builds".

20% of those people still enjoy doing it with sets they've had since the 80s and 90s.

Fun fact, Warner Brothers executives got the idea for the LEGO Movie from one of their college interns going crazy and believing Toy Story is real, which led him to invite minifigures to important meetings. They let the intern go, but the idea of President Business was born and production soon began on the movie.

Following environmental concerns and campaigns, Lego has promised to eradicate all plastic from its products by the year 2025. This will save an estimated 1.6 billion pieces of plastic finding their way into the world's oceans every year. Paper bricks will be sustainably resourced from the company's own forests in the heart of Denmark.

    Here is mine:

In a recent interview with Mark Stafford, the ever-persistent question about whether or not monorails would return came up again. However, Mark's answer finally set the record straight, even though he admitted it was a little "embarrassing" on Lego's part. "We lost the molds for the track," he stated bluntly. "For a while, company policy was to say the molds were destroyed due to the high costs of producing the parts, but that was a lie. Sometime in 1996, the molds were lost, possibly even stolen. The company spent some effort to track them down because there were plans for another monorail set in 1997 or 1998. Of course, once talks started with Lucasfilm for the Star Wars license, the search for the monorail molds was called off and the focus shifted."
When pressed for more details, Mark would only go one to say that if the molds were ever found, the product designers would be "very eager" to make a new monorail set.
Of course, the obvious question was: if the molds were truly lost, why not just make new ones? Again, Mark pointed out the focus shifted to Star Wars, then BIONICLE, when it came to producing new molds, so the search was abandoned and the budget for new molds went to these and other popular themes. "But maybe they'll turn up someday. You never know. Wouldn't that be awesome?" Mark almost coyly offered with a knowing wink.

A lot of LEGO fans are probably naturally are a little upset that there was so few Mr. Gold mini figures produced. But it was never meant to be that way. I once interviewed the designers of Series 10 and they told me the real truth - of how there was planned to make just as many of them as the rest of the series. But, the day before the release date, the ship laden with Mr. Golds  mysteriously vanished without a trace in the North Atlantic Ocean. Now, with one day left, they had run out of time to produce any more, so they decided to limit it at 5000, as that’s how many they left. Somewhere, deep down in the sea lies thousands of small packets containing some of the most valuable ABS ever produced.

Fun fact: poly bags with Boba Fett were released in Tibet in 2015 which actually included a white range finder. Unfortunately, due to a printing error on Boba Fett’s arms, all unsold poly bags were pulled from Tibetan shops after only three days. It’s because of this that white range finders are rare, but not impossible, to find...

Fun fact:  A study conducted by Heidecker and Wareheim shows that consuming Lego on an daily basis has multiple health benefits, including the prevention of early onset halitosis and an overall decrease in narcoleptic episodes.  Some participants in the study have even boasted vaginal rejuvenation.  8% of these claims were made by males.

Lego pieces have found an unexpected use in opera; sopranos whose top notes are no longer firm put a piece in their shoes and step down hard just as they get to the critical part of their most difficult arias! Works every time...not.

    BREAKING NEWS
It has been long believed that Danish company Lego got the mustard (or the brick) from an original idea by UK based Kiddicraft, but imporved it immensly. A very surprising find shows that the best idea ever (disclaimer: this reporter is an AFOL so can not the unbiased in their article) actualy comes from Belgium and is even older than we thought. Last month on a palaeolitich dig in Veldwezelt-Hezerwater, in Limburg, Belgium, one of the archaeologist discovered something that looked a lot like a fossilised everybody's favourite toy. Carbon dating showed that this was indeed a stone made approximatily 2 million years ago.

Mr Con Ceited told us: 'This discovery shows us that the Paleolithic or the old Stone Age was not just the first period that people made stone tools, but that it was also the first time this kind of shape, now known as a Lego brick, was made'. At this stage it is unkown if this was used for kids to play with while their parents went mammoth hunting or if it was more of a tool for the adults to relax after a long day trying to provide food and warmth for their family.
Lawyers are already disccusing what this means for the Lego group's patent and recent raids in China. A spokesperson from TLG told us: 'We are very pleased to see that something similar to our greatest product seemed to exist that long ago. We were only notified of this discovery a couple of hours ago and have not been able to study the fossil in detail. However, our fight against copy-cats is more than about the brick. The innovation of our designers, the quality of the clutch is something I am sure only Lego bricks can provide. Thank you.'

It remains to be seen what will come up in this dig as well, will the researchers find more bricks and make more sense of this amazing discovery?

This was Snowhitie for the Bricksetforum amazing news, signing off, thanking MrCross for his really funny question.

The bricks and plates in #21103 are intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors respectively and hence make a super capacitor once assembled which is essential for a real time machine unlike the discredited flux capacitor. 79% of scientists at CERN have started hoarding these sets.

There are actually also 5000 golden Lego-sausages out there. Only to find them will be very very hard, as they were placed randomly in sets all over the board regarding theme's and uses...
One UK-based Bricksetter has made it his life-goal to find them all, please PM-him might you find one!
Another Bricksetter from the US actually really craves just 2 of them, to go with his Mr. Golds. How he is planning to actually joining the two whilst NOT opening the Series 10-packaging, is, however, rather unclear.

The clutch power of Lego bricks produced for the antipodes is manufactured to be 15% higher on account to the sets having to stay assembled despite being upside down. A related point of note is that Lego fans down under also don't use the term SNOT, but SOT (seeing as studs not on top is the standard way of building).
