Saw my local Sainsbury's had the new Toy Story sets out this morning (which is unusually prompt for them) so couldn't resist grabbing #10766

"Life is like a hurricane, here in Bricksburg. Race Cars, Velociraptors and Master Builders. Got a Dime, and a Snowflake, Serpent Staff and a Headache???"

And now trying to make up new lyrics isn't working. Seven down, Eleven to go for Disney Minifigures Series 2. Anna, Elsa, Jasmine, Jafar, Frozone and Hades all checked off.

I got all 18 of the Disney Mini-figure series 2 this morning with the help of a couple of expert feelers who shared their expertise after they completed their sets. It was a fun morning. :)

Guess who is getting a UCS Falcon next month?
I kept going i want it, I don't want it, I want it, no, yes, no, yes. Now it will be apart of a birthday order consisting of the Falcon and the Tantive IV. hoping it's in stock online when I order the damn thing.

Happy Birthday! My birthday is this month; I'm hoping to give myself the Tantive IV. It all depends on the bonus I get next week.
  • CharmiefcbCharmiefcb Member Posts: 451
Thanks. Now because of my OCD I will spend the month worrying about when it comes to order in early June will they have them in stock? What if they don't have them in stock then my life will be just ruined. If they're out of stock they will come back in stock as none of the sets I want will be retiring anytime soon, but I'm still having OCD fits of unnecessary worry.

My Lego status today went from "Meh, this Lego Star Wars May the 4th promotion is not worth it. I'm not buying sets I don't want to get the GWP." to "We need to buy a birthday present for the bass player, he wants Lego Star Wars." With that gift, I made the €75 limit for the GWP set! I only really wanted a €30 set, and nothing else. The gift was €45. That turned out great.

Thinking of picking up a Kessel Run Millennium Falcon from a small, independent toy store in the next few weeks. Poor things just can't sell the Disney era Star Wars sets. They still have Encounter on Jakku and Battle on Scarif sets on their shelves.

Good on you for supporting the smaller stores!

I try to support them as much as I can. they do have a good range of stock. They do get some of the hard to find sets as well as a decent range of City, Friends, Star Wars etc. I'm sure they buy unsold stock from other stores as well because I do see some 2016-17 Lego sets in there sometimes.

Just looking at some old sets online and comparing them to what we have today. While the sets today are more detailed with new pieces and building techniques they seem to have lost alot of their imagination. I would love to see Castle and Pirates return with updated designs. Even things like Aquazone and Space. I loved the universes Lego made for the own themes  I know they still do it with Ninjago etc but these sets had to rely on the sets themselves and maybe a TV ad and not a TV show.

Last weekend I went into a local department store while on vacation, and the only Lego sets they had on display were Chima. Felt like I traveled back in time.

Now that I've finally gotten the proper shelving up in my main LEGO room, I've been working on rebuilding all of my Lord of the Rings sets for display. Each one is a great reminder of how much I love this theme and miss it!

I've already discovered that the shelves I have up aren't going to hold quite as much as I was originally planning/hoping for. I had planned on getting all of the LotR sets onto two of the 43-1/4" Ikea Lack shelves, but it looks like I'm going to end up having to take up three of them. The room they're up in only had realistic room for five of those shelves total, so I'm going to end up running out of display room much quicker than anticipated. I also have one of the Kallax 4x3 (4 cubbies wide by 3 cubbies high) units on the floor for display, but it was already about full up even before the LotR re-build.

    First world problems.

Hoping to have a good amount of progress made to snap some photos soon.

OK today was the day I was going to go down to my small independant toy store and get the Kessel Run Falcon. It had been there for weeks. I get there. It's gone. Sold.
Normally that would upset me but I'm glad they sold it. I like to see smaller stores doing well. I did get some regular City set so I didn't leave Legoless.
I don't think I'll pick it up now. I'll just put that money towards the Avengers jet instead. I'm getting the UCS Falcon in a couple of weeks anyway.

^ Proves my thought that "When you see it, buy it." :)
Whether it is a bargain or a set you really want, buy it as soon as you see it or somebody else will. Unless you really can't afford it at the time ...

I agree. If I see a set I want in stock somewhere I get it. I can live without the Kessel Run Falcon. I only really wanted it because I saw it collecting dust on their shelf for weeks and only got an urge to buy it because I like to help small businesses succeed.

Decided to pop into my local Sainsbury’s on the way home from work to see if they had the Disney 2 CMFs even though I have a box arriving soon. I started feeling the bags as I wanted to get Huey, Dewey, Louie. After about 5 minutes a security guard came up to me and said a customer informed us you have been opening packages. Thankfully the security guard was quite understanding once I told him what I was doing exactly.

And yes I did manage to get Huey, Dewey, Louie. So all in all a good trip!

Someone called security on you? I guess that's good, even if they got it wrong, as long as the security guard assesses the situation right.

I often have people ask of I'm trying to figure out which is in the pack by feel and have helped quite a few people out when they realise I've got a bit of a knack for it.

I was in my local Target the other day and saw the new CMFs there.  There was one on the shelf beside the box, opened all the way up.  I guess at the very least the person who left it there didn't just steal it outright.  I understand the frustration when you can't find what you want, but that's just not right.

I see this fairly often.  I'm guessing in most cases it's a young kid who, just as they open the bag, mom and dad catch them, make them put it down, and quickly walk away as they don't want to buy it.  Probably don't stop to think the cameras would have caught all the action.

I fully understand that people might not exactly understand what you are doing and it can look a bit dodgy. The security guard was really good about it once I explained what I was doing.

I do love it when people ask me to find certain figures for them. I really enjoy the challenge!

^^Most likely was one of those addicted to CMF Bag Huffing. You'd be surprised by the buzz you can get from a single CMF bag. Something about the mixture of Denmark air and ABS that really get's thing going!

The plastic is quite tough, I’ve never managed to open them without using my teeth or scissors! So I wonder how kids are able to do it. Although if you use enough brute force you’ll eventually manage to do it.

Ha, that was my exact thought too!  It clearly wasn't cut in any way, it was torn open just like a bag of chips.  I admit I was rather impressed by that.

    @Fizyx:
Sadly, I find opened/stolen CMFs all the time at different stores, mainly Walmart though. I know this might sound funny, but I think either the kids or the parents hide them underneath the other CMFs, as I always seem to find most of them 'hidden' on the bottom of the rack. It makes me so sad to see all kinds of CMF parts and instructions strewn under the shelves or behind other sets. Then I'll come the next time and they'll all be gone, and the cycle goes on and on. It grieves me to think about how they probably just scoop up the precious pieces and throw them away!

Building Hogwarts great hall, a duplicate I picked up cheap without figures and snake etc. Was only £25! However, it smells badly of smoke, even after a wash! It also had what I can only describe as tar stains on it... I tried scourgify and expelliarmus, but in the end only elbow grease and a lightly dampened soft cloth did the trick.
Hoping that a good airing in a clean atmosphere will rid it of the 70s pub vibe it currently embodies.

While true of the older bags, with TLM 2 LEGO started using bags which are far too similar to Trading Card packaging. With enough force you can easily open them from the rear by simply pulling them apart from the seams up top. This is how I open them once I get home so I can preserve one for my packaging collection of LEGO CMF bags.

Much less messy than the older foil packages where you had to tear them by sticking your finger in the little peg hole for the wall pegs and tearing it open that way. Most of my CMF packages from Series 3 or 4 onwards were opened with xacto knives to keep them looking fairly pristine. But even then some of them did not survive that method forcing me to just use the scissors and lose the tops of the foil package in my collection.

And if you want to know why I keep one representation of the packaging as part of my collection... I honestly have no idea. At this point it's become OCD for blind bag figures to keep at least one sample of what they were packaged in when released.

I suggest a sheet of bounce. I placed one in a bucket with some of my used Transfomers which came from a smoker and it sucked the smoke smell clean out of the plastic.

Stopped at the LEGO Disney Springs store tonight. They had a lot of May the Fourth posters left, along with a handful of Hoth promos. I decided not to participate last weekend since I really didn’t need anything. The employees said if I spent $75 in Star Wars then I could get it, but then I realized it wasn’t Double VIP anymore. Oh well.

I did grab a hot dog guy keychain and a mug for my brother-in-law for his bday. Also, my wife met Vader.

Haven't had much time for LEGO recently, and having sold a few old bits and bobs last month I treated myself to an Amazon.jp purchase. Bought Saturday night and arrived Wednesday morning. Impressed with delivery speed. Just need to find the time to build it now.

^ Put them in a separate, prominently displayed box for when small children visit. I find the odd shapes attract their attention more than the parts I have organised in drawers.

Currently wondering what to do with all my brick seperators, they just seem to accumulate...

According to my inventory list I have close to 100 more in sealed sets. Really think Lego need to stop including them in so many sets....
To be honest I find it more shocking that you have close to 100 sealed sets! Not that I'm judging you for it.
All in all, I suspect it's just as well that LEGO makes them so widely available, particularly now that sets tend to include a lot more plates, tiles, and Technic bits in sets than they did in the 90s when I was growing up.
Hopefully it might also mean "used" sets and parts down the line might have fewer teeth marks than they have often been prone to having in the past! Even having had brick separators as a kid, I can't pretend I wasn't guilty of using my teeth to separate parts when I didn't have one close at hand…
There's even a funny anecdote in the book "LEGO: A Love Story" about the author (who had recently rediscovered the LEGO hobby as an adult) being told that brick separators existed, and thinking that the person telling them was making them up — he'd never heard of them! At least this way more people will know they exist than back when they were only sold separately or in larger "basic" brick buckets!

Bringing them to LEGO fan events and handing them out to visitors could also be a good strategy! Even kids who already own brick separators at home will surely appreciate getting free stuff to take home with them!

@Aanchir I too once was confounded when people mentioned having a "to build" pile as I've always built as soon as I've bought. But over the last year or so the collecting bug bit me hard, found myself needing to buy modular expert sets despite only finding time to build PC and PS! Then theres the Star Wars UCS sets I just had to buy to go with my Slave 1. All will be built one day! I've also bought every single Marvel Super Heroes set I can lay my hands on (resolutely ignoring the existence of SDCC and NYTF!) but most are still boxed as my kids graduated from Duplo so more time is being spent making friends and ninjago sets!

I couldn't resist any longer and didn't want to risk waiting until #80103 possibly becomes available in Europe, so I ordered one off Amazon Japan this morning for 10255 JPY, which includes shipping and fees (at the current exchange rate, it should work out at about €83/£73). Very excited :-)
