Is there anything recently special about Scuba Iron Man (from the Red Skull Submarine set)? In the space of 24 hours I have had 3 buyers from different countries asking after him?
Probably the hall of armor set sparked a lot of people to gather every suit. That one being sand green makes it a really nice addition
    Oh. Thanks for the info.

What better way to tell people what I've been parting out than showing?
If you check out my Instragram you'll see what sets are being parted out:

Still scratching my head over a Customer who orders Lego via Bricklink and asks for plastic not to be used in the packing of the order...

Surely if plastic is that much of a hot topic Lego probably should not be your thing?

They will probably complain about whatever you use instead of plastic too.

What else could you possibly use? Paper I suppose. But plastic is recyclable now so same difference?
  • CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 18,030
If they don't want you to use plastic such as grip seal bags, then tell them before packing that you will need to put all parts in a single box so they will not be sorted when they arrive. You might also need to charge for small parcel rate if you do not have large letter boxes. Although I'm not sure how you will seal any box without using some sort of tape based on plastic, unless you have a stock of eco tape.
  • bricknationbricknation Member Posts: 683
So far I had only one request for no plastic but almost every week someone asks to combine all the parts in one bag.

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Rochester, NYMember Posts: 1,910
fortunately I'm not familiar with that craziness - a couple have asked for each lot to be in its own bag (which I mostly do anyway except for putting multiple small lots in the same bag).
Slow but steady. Listing more inventory still not high on my to do list.
Got some space cleared out in the basement, using that for not yet listed inventory and listed stuff I sell rarely. Makes it easier to get at the inventory I do keep in my room and get around the room in general

several weeks ago I opened some #10704 blue bags to pull a specific part. A couple days ago I opened the rest and still need to sort everything. I still have most of the other colors to do after that. Got 'em last Thanksgiving. That's my backlog for ya, and I can't resist getting more from WalMart's about half off clearance.

Did get a few big orders lately along with small ones fairly regularly.

going wild at WalMart's about 50% off clearance - $856.44 on stuff to part out and counting on top of my existing backlog.
I'm not broke, but increased inventory turnover would be real nice right about now, which probably entails getting my butt in gear on actually parting out this and/or the piles I already had.

opened each of several sets I'm parting out (more compact transport from store and storage at home, recycled the boxes and extra copies of instructions, separated the different numbered bags). Listed sticker sheets and other items that weren't in a parts bag

Finally starting in earnest on sorting the 37 10704 blue bags.

Like before, this means several bins and bags open within arms reach of my desk. With a large pile, I need to keep picking different parts off the top rather than getting all of a shape/color at once.

I can't find the black/dark bley bags in my to be sorted pile, and looking at my BL inventory it doesn't look like I listed/sold them already. I don't see how I could miss something that big even in a messy house.

Will work on some of my WalMart clearance haul next as a change of pace and before interest fades on those items

Not done with the 10704 blues yet but much closer. Condensed from 3 to 2 6qt tubs of them to sort.Updated pricing for a lot of them (and many other colors of the pieces I looked up). Made several bags that were exactly 100 (or some other round number) to make it easier to pick orders.

didn't find the black/dark grey but did find 96 extra blue 1x6 plate. there are 2 of those in 10704 and I got 48 in 2017, so presumably I forgot to list the blue 1x6 plates from that batch

I try to list everything at least a few percent below average - or no higher than average if I've sold any already. Much of my online inventory management is lowering prices where the average has dropped since I listed.

    -

Same color of similar pieces is one thing that makes sorting difficult, and 10704 includes brick 2x3, slope 2x3 and inverted slope 2x3

Finally finished sorting the blue from 10704. Feels odd to have so much open space near my desk.
Most medium azure 1x2x1 panel had rounded corners, but a few had the older sharp corners. Sorting those was a pain
Adding them to my online inventory was the easy part especially since I'd already updated a lot of pricing as I was sorting.

35 #70824 is next, hopefully quickly

Got 35 70824 bag 1 sorted and listed tonight, bag 2 hopefully soon.

It has a brick built figure, which can be a pain - separating from other pieces in the bag when sorting, storing separately to make it easier and avoid mistakes when taking orders for them.

However, the 1st bag has only the parts to Banarnar except the 4 pieces of the ordinary Lucy minifigure, 2 pairs of handcuffs, and extras of the open round 1x1 white plate and reddish brown cheese slope.

Regular minifigures with a lot of brick accessories are a similar issue, but 70824 doesn't have those.
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Rochester, NYMember Posts: 1,910
opened all the 70824 bag 2's - sorted and listed the figures, large plates (for compact storage) and small transparent pieces (in general I store transparent separately so it doesn't get scratched by the plastic used for solid pieces)
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Rochester, NYMember Posts: 1,910
    Finished sorting and listing 70824.
small parts from bag 2 a couple nights ago, big parts just now
besides similar parts (brick 2x2, slope 2x2 regular and inverted in dark purple), the set also has 4 different magenta 1x2x2 brick patterns, 2 magenta 2x2 inverted slope.
I sorted them by shape first then by pattern when I was done with everything else

Part out value was $25.14, paid $7.56, ratio of 3.3254
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Rochester, NYMember Posts: 1,910
recycling bin getting full, so working on something I've already taken out of the boxes
5 #70828, separated the different numbered bags, started sorting bag 1.
that's enough for now, sorting LEGO one of many things that has me staying up til stupid o clock
finally finished a box of ziplock bags I opened ages ago and I have a few more left.

Do you know if there is a list of Bricklink stores owned by Brickset members?  I know of a few just from following this thread over the years.  I make several BL orders a month and like to support fellow AFOLs and Bricksetters when possible...

It might be wise to wait 6-12 months. Quite a few UK sellers have already parted Destiny's Bounty out and prices for parts have dropped significantly. I noticed some where they have listed all parts in the set at 50% of the six month average. They are likely to fall even further in a race to the bottom over the next few months if sellers aim for fast turnover to recoup costs.

As someone who parted out 2 Destiny's Bounty's 18 months ago, I completely agree. Many of the parts from it have not sold as well as expected, and for a set of this quality, the 2 I bought this time around are very much staying sealed and will be sold as such. I'm going to be waiting before listing them as again there's going to be a lot on the market at the moment. Not expecting too much of an aftermarket value increase, but if I can sell for RRP in 12 months time, I'd be happy enough.

Indeed, I bought my first two of them - as parts packs rather than for investment. I didn't buy any for investment, I think that there are way too many out there. I reckon I'll use at least 75% of the parts, so I'll sell off the remainder plus minifigures although I doubt they will make much. This set was one of those funny ones, it was an excellent deal at £45* a set if you were after it for yourself as a set or as a parts pack, but probably not so great as an investment, either as parts or as a set. At least for a while yet. I have no doubt there is still money to be made parting them out, but on a set that size it is a lot of work for not much profit. It is one where the BL part out value vs cost price suggests an instant buy, but looking deeper into the stock available suggests otherwise.

    * I went for the £10 off voucher with a £100 order, and spent it on something I was going to buy anyway.

I had assumed it would be easier to sell them all at once, they're already sorted.

on one the decorated 1x2x2 is scratched, decided to part that out. did so and mostly finished the rest of bag 1. about all i felt like doing with the store tonight, but that's still progress relatively speaking lately
