Can any Netherlanders here confirm how customs work in your country? Someone is claiming that a package of a few parts would cost $25 in customs.

If this is true, would it still be true as a gift? (honestly, I'm just considering gifing him the stuff)

If there's any Import VAT at all, the shipping agent is allowed to add an administration charge for collecting it. This is sometimes a percentage of the declared value of the goods, but usually just a set fee. $25 sounds about right, BUT Import VAT, Duty and any related costs/fees are the responsibility of the buyer, not the seller. You're well within your rights to tell them to bugger off, but that won't stop them crying to PayPal if that's what they used. If you put a return address on the package you will eventually get it back. In theory. A gift wouldn't attract Import VAT and thus no admin charge, but they can ignore the gift declaration if they believe it to be false (if you included an invoice or picking list, for example).

That's why I'm glad our tax free threshold on imported items is AU$1,000 & under. I think that some of the levels (or lack of) that some other countries have at times are ridiculous, while I wouldn't mark something as a gift if I was running a BrickLink store, I have done so for a couple parcels I've sent overseas. If you're going to do so, it helps to include a card or letter, the trick is to include just enough detail to make it sound like you are just friends swapping gifts, not conducting trade transactions.

Fortunately I haven't had buyers complain about customs (or sales tax for in-state orders), I'm not gonna lie to the government for them but would think of a more diplomatic way to say it. I wouldn't go ahead and send it honestly labeled after they complain, that's just asking for trouble, and if they've already paid refunding them and eating the fixed portion of the PayPal fee seems smart.

A buyer expecting customs fraud is not listed as a reason for feedback removal (https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=14) but is a reason for order cancellation

(https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=79) and I think BL automatically removes retaliatory feedback on cancelled orders as I've seen with NPB's.

USPS rates change January 27th.

I printed a couple labels on PayPal on the 26th dated the 28th and was charged the old prices.

(All prices commercial base)

First Class Mail Package now has zone pricing. Zones 1 and 2 have old pricing except $3.18 8-ounce price now applies to 5-7oz as well, similar for $3.82 12oz and $4.94 15.9oz. $3.09 to $5.53 for Zones 8 and 9

Priority Mail medium and large box commercial base actually went down a nickel, though small box went up from $7.05 to $7.50 and padded flatrate envelope went up from $7.10 to $7.55

International packages didn't seem to go up even more except for 1st class to Canada

Next project is to finish sorting some already listed sets from awhile ago. Not much parts but a bin for each is taking up a lot of storage space. But after doing a couple orders I feel like a break and getting to a non-LEGO chore first.

No-one should expect someone to lie about packages they send them, it's a nice gesture if someone does it, but there are risks, expectation of the sender to do this is disgusting & rude. In your case, you're operating a business, penalties are generally higher when it involves profits being generated, so I can fully understand why you're not willing to take such a risk.

The parcels I've sent as gifts, I'm not profiting from, just getting asked to be reimbursed for the items & shipping costs. If I were to start an online store, I wouldn't be doing it anymore, cause all it would take is one package that is marked as gift, even if I can prove it's not a sale from my store, it would trigger a larger investigation, even if I'm found to have done nothing wrong through the business, the potential downtime & reduced sales would negatively affect the business.

Noticing something strange over on Rebrickable, some parts list for my MOCs are changing price values, sometimes quite dramatically, like right now, one MOC is coming in at approximately AU$210 more than it did last week (the minifigure head it uses is currently at AU$217). I've been seeing these spikes occurring on & off for several months now, just wondering if BL has stopped trying to clamp down on price manipulation that was apparently happening a while back, as Rebrickable gets it's pricing from BL & BrickOwl.

& now that minifigure head, a Luke Skywalker one used in the 2014 sandcrawler, mos eisley & advent calendar has dropped to the low, low estimate of AU$68.34, curious to see if it drops back under $9 which is where it was when I added it to the MOC part lists it's in currently.

At least I have always found them so and it's a common issue for others too I believe. It is not clear how they pull their data, although they say it comes from BL, Brickowl and independent stores, it is not clear from what geographical area or what VAT / tax is included or excluded etc.

^ I paid somewhere between those two figures for the one I have for my project, the usual problem of balancing part prices versus postage. I'm aware how inaccurate their pricing data can be at times, just been noticing that after spikes like this, some parts have ended climbing a little higher, it's a little strange when it's the parts that are becoming more readily available, particularly in lower end price per piece sets. I realise the minifigure heads I've noticed the current spikes with my current MOC lists isn't a good indicator, particularly with a couple of them that are now retired parts, so I'd expect some rise over time will likely occur. I was just curious to know if anyone else had picked up on this & had determined any sources of these spikes.

VAT is excluded in rebrickable prices. So EU buyers from EU sellers will pay more than rebrickable suggests.

To try and keep my partner from hurling sets at me, I'm having a moving house sale over on BrickLink and Brick Owl to try and reduce the amount of pieces we have to move. So: 50% off all parts and minifigures - all parts were new from sealed sets, all minifigures are unassembled, everything stored and packed in a smoke and pet free home.

I have 46 Unikitty bags, but usually for CMFs I open them and list specific figures, and doing so for Unikitty is on my to do list (famous last words given how out of control my not yet listed pile is)

Like I mentioned a week ago, I'm sorting some stuff I already listed. Didn't quite finish 41179 but did enough to get it down to 1 ziploc bag. I can put that in a storage bin with other nearly done sets rather than having it take up its own bin and taking up less space was a big reason I was getting around to that.

Separated the different color bags of 37 #10704. Previously I was only about a quarter through that. Obviously it's a prerequisite to sorting the parts. This also made the storage more compact; I could use some of my spare plastic bins and recycle some of the cardboard boxes. Some of the bags were put back somewhere out of the way.

Over the last couple days I sorted and listed 6 #10854, WalMart's Black Friday DUPLO deal. Feels good to get something big done with my store for the first time in awhile, and this frees up a relatively large amount of value and storage space

Finally finished sorting the 2 #70910 I parted ages ago, and got even closer on the #41179. Updated part prices (might be why they hadn't sold) and did so for other colors of those parts while I had the pages loaded.

Next up green bags from 37 #10704 - a change of pace and those bins are most in the way in my bedroom

I have a quick question, apologies if this isn't the right place, but as most of you own Bricklink stores I hope it will be. If I put a wanted lost together and click 'buy' I get a list of stores to buy from. The default setting is 'item count' which I usually change to 'unique lots' as the default doesn't give me stores which have everything I want in the correct quantity.

Is there a way to sort so that the store with the right item selection and which is also the cheapest comes up first? I don't really understand the reasoning behind the sort order on 'unique lots'. In this particular instance the store at the top is £39.90, the next store is £22.60, the one after that £50.70. All three stores have my full want list in stock. In this instance it's not too bad, but often I have dozens of stores listed who have the parts I want, but in a totally random order regards price.

It's perfectly straightforward if I only want one type of part as I can simply search for that, but with a wanted list of 15 parts or so it's a bit unwieldy to use for buyers who are looking for the best price.

Automatic order optimization often seems to have trouble, I've noticed this on some other multi-seller ecommerce sites as well. So I just do it manually.

This morning separated the different color bags from my last 3 10704's and sorted and listed the green ones.

Listed 47 #41775 (Unikitty figures). got some of every character, ranging from 2 to 7 of each.

Wanted to do something with my store this evening but didn't have time/energy for sorting more 10704. 41775 has the parts in a plastic bag rather than loose in the outer bag which makes them a lot easier to organize than other CMFs.

Recently passed $12,500 inventory and 100K parts. Had been around 5K lots (3.5K active, 1.5K stockroom) for awhile

@milamber maybe not quite what you're looking to do, but if you apply a max price to each part on the wanted list and then check the "exclude lots over max price" box. It won't necessarily give you the cheapest combo, but will be under the max you're willing to pay.

Target had some Sterilite tubs with light grey lids which seemed useful for my light bluish gray and flat silver bins, swapped out the white lids. Needed some spares anyway. Reorganized my bubblemailer stockpile.

Started sorting the orange/yellow 10704 bags. Makes as much sense as other part sorting, and will help me find out if I could use more bins with orange lids.

Would be nice I could find some red or brown lids. I have lots of black, green and blue from before.

Not sure if you guys saw the new PayPal User Agreement, but they are going to stop refunding seller fees on refunds. So in addition to the flat fee that always pocket, they are going to keep the 2.9% fee or whatever. Seems a little drastic to go from 30 cents to potentially unlimited.

AMENDMENTS TO THE PAYPAL ACCOUNT USER AGREEMENT
We are updating the PayPal Account User Agreement for U.S. customers. These changes will go into effect on May 7, 2019. If you agree to these changes, you don’t have to do anything. If you don’t agree with these changes, you may close your account. If you close your account before May 7, 2019, the changes will not apply to you.

Amendments to the PayPal Account User Agreement

We’re removing the flat rate pricing for sending money to friends and family members who have PayPal accounts in a country other than the United States and introducing a new variable fee of 5% based on the amount you send with a minimum of $0.99 and a maximum of $4.99 per transaction. We’re also removing any variation depending on the recipient’s country.

We are changing the currency conversion spread to 3.25% over a base exchange rate in situations where you are a sender of money in a PayPal transaction.

We’re changing how we treat refunds. If you refund (partially or fully) a transaction to a buyer or a donation to a donor, there are no fees to make the refund, but the fees you originally paid as the seller will not be returned to you.

Every single one of those changes is pure greed based off the market's dependence on them. Think I'll be trying to lose their service less after these "amendments".

Especially in countries where buyers are allowed to return on a whim, having to pay fees on an order even if refunded is going to be damaging. Get paid for a £100 order, then get a sorry but I don't want it, please refund. Or the "sorry, but I accidentally paid twice" problem.

Probably the hall of armor set sparked a lot of people to gather every suit. That one being sand green makes it a really nice addition
