Whats the worst your Lego addiction has got to?

BastyBasty LondonMember Posts: 111
I’m only just getting back into Lego but I’ve bought all the amusment park sets and now I found myself on eBay and BrickLink a lot buying random parts and lots of poly bags. But I can feel that I just can’t have enough Lego at this point.

How bad has your Lego purchasing got? Be interesting to hear from you all.

Bad enough to buy a set for your child’s Christmas present just so you can build it; put it on display and only let him play with it whilst supervised.
    That’s low, isn’t it?
Now I’m intrigued as to which set it is?

@LuLego I rarely laugh at stuff on the internet but I laughed more than I should have at your comment. On reflection, I don’t think that shows me in a good light at all :-/

Bad enough that it's part of the reason I'm now looking to move house.

Still, at least I've not got to the point of buying an additional house...

Stealing parts in the middle of the night from my son's LEGO...
I shamefully admit to doing this too.

My brother has a room dedicated to a replica layout of the town. He moves the local boats and train in accordance with their real-life counterparts.

I "appropriate" the spares from my daughters' sets, on the pretext that I'm "looking after them".

I’m currently ‘looking after’ quite a few minifigures for my son.

Another low - my 9 year old daughter loves Harry Potter and Lego but the Bricktober set which I gave her for Christmas and the Oliveander minifigure have somehow teleported to the top of her wardrobe, ‘safely’ out of her reach.

I once had a stack of Amazon/Target/[email protected] boxes stacked 7 feet high in my basement (even with my opening several boxes and redistributing the sets every few days). 2016 holiday season had some fiiiiine deals....

I think for me it’s more that sometimes I just get so overwhelmed I have to step back. That’s how I know I need to look at it from  bigger picture.

    I knew I was starting to get in trouble when I started INTENTIONALLY purchasing multiples of the same set (as opposed to just forgetting I had already gotten one) so I could start building fleets/armies/larger versions of buildings.  It's bad enough getting ONE of each set that I'm interested in, let alone 3-4 ;_;

I do this sometimes. For example, I bought 4 of the Recent Hogwarts Express and 4 of the Imperial Conveyex Transport. I justify these purchases by telling myself I will sell the spare minifigs to offset the cost. But how many minifigs have I actually sold in my lifetime? Goose egg!

One time I got close to selling a new set that I'd taken the minifigs out of. I was all set to sell it on eBay, when I realised that if I saw that particular minifigless set for that price, I would buy it. So I kept it. It was a really good deal though!

So bad that even new employees at my LEGO Store call me by name, and I'm up to 71 on the Brickset list.

To balance this out a bit; over the past 24 months I have sold 400+ sets. Still selling strong. Anyone want a 10179 :)

Milestones of my Lego addiction, after I started collecting 10 years ago.

    1. Found Brickset when searching for Lego.
    2. Found Bricklink when searching to buy and sell Lego.
    3. Started a Brickset collection inventory.
    4. Started reading Brickset Forum daily.
    5. Started posting on Brickset Forum.
    6. Shop Black Friday sales just for Lego.
    7. Shop post X-mas clearance sales.
    8. Collection of unopened sets starts.
    9. Started selling on Bricklink.
    10. Go to Comic Con just for Lego, ignore Hall H and other exclusives and panels.
    11. Buy annual pass to Legoland for family just for 10% discount and better chance at rare sets.
    12. Using closet and garage as Lego storage.
    12. Have dedicated Lego/Toy room.
    13. Annexed kids room as Lego storage and display.
    14. Buy Lego sets from own kids.
    *15. Insuring collection.
    **16. Getting divorced.

    * hasn’t happened.
    ** pray it never happens.
Since watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, I’m seriously doing some serious purging of sets that no longer “sparks joy”. Many sets that have been tucked away are going up for sale. Sets that have been built but have collected dust are going to get broken down. Also doing a lot of organizing of my loose parts collection.

Also so my cloths dresser is now amazingly organized.

I bought 5 of #60180 Monster Truck for the orange wheels and tires... so I could modify #60195 to more closely resemble the TC-497 Overland Train it seems to have been based on.
