I think it will go on permasale at that price soon enough. I expect to see it closer to $120 for actual sales, but who knows really.

Thanks. Oddly, they sometimes give you that option right on the product page.

By lego branded, do you mean a brown corrugated box with the purple lego logo, or the bare set box?
  • hleonffuhleonffu Member Posts: 247
My #75251 came in this LEGO branded box with a shipping label. My prior order for #60198 also came in a similar box, but was shipped within another box.

Well... I’m annoyed with Amazon right now. They are one of the few places that still has the Ferris Wheel, and I had been waffling quite a bit on it. Finally ordered one. They shipped it in way too big of a box with way too little padding—just 2 sheets of the brown paper. The shipping box looked fine, but the lego box was very badly crushed. I talked to customer service, and they shipped a replacement, which I picked up at a UPS store today. This one was in a slightly smaller shipping box, but again just had 2 pieces of the brown paper “padding”. This one is not nearly as badly crushed, but it has a banged up corner, a big crease, and a piece of scrap wax paper—probably from the label or invoice—stuck to the front with tape. I didn’t notice the tape, so I pulled on the paper and tore some of the front.

In the end, I don’t care a ton about the box. I’ve been breaking them down anyway. But it’s absolutely maddening to spend $200 on something and have it packaged and shipped so haphazardly. And even though I’m not a collector who is picky about these things, it does lower the value of my purchase. This is hardly the first time a large set from Amazon has come banged up. It does make me reluctant to buy larger sets from them unless it’s just an exceptional deal.

Amazon shipping is abysmal.  It has gotten to the point where they obviously do not care anymore.  Their focus seems to be on the Alexa/Kindle market and Prime Video.  I rarely buy anything from Amazon anymore unless it is a great deal and not fragile.

Good, cheap, fast: you can only pick two. For shipping, you get fast and cheap... so it won't be good.
  • autolycusautolycus Member Posts: 1,432
Quick follow-up on my Amazon damaged box issue: I chatted with a CSR through the app. He offered a refund of 15%. I accepted that and will keep the replacement and return the first one. I guess always good to know they’ll try to compensate for these situations. Still not ideal, but hopefully if they get enough complaints about this, their logistics people will be forced to fix their packaging.

I bet it’s mostly a regional issue of employee training and retention. Not to jinx myself, but I’ve had pretty good luck with lego from Amazon. But their deals just don’t compare anymore to the clearance prices I can find locally, so I don’t buy much from them any more. I did get another BWE a couple months ago when it was $199. It was a little dented, but it filled most of its shipping box, so it couldn’t move around much.
  • autolycusautolycus Member Posts: 1,432
Yeah, I’ve had good luck with smaller sets since they tend to be packed in better-fitting shipping boxes with the inflated padding. But the issue I had with the Ferris Wheel wasn’t unique to it or to LEGO sets, honestly. Larger items, especially ones that are long, wide, and somewhat flat like LEGO boxes, seem to just be packed horribly.

I haven't purchased any LEGO from Amazon in over three years.  I received 2 Tower Bridges in one box, with no packing material.  The outer box looked like someone took a work break on it and thought it was a bean bag chair.   The LEGO boxes had 3-4 rather large stickers each on them, both boxes were open and one box was opened and bags falling out with one bag actually ripped open.  Customer Service wouldn't do anything about it...twice, when I called each time to complained.

Amazon packing methods leave a lot to be desired but I find that ordering large sets regardless of vendor (Amazon, S@H, Target, TRU *R.I.P.*) usually ends up with damage to the boxes.  Either the set is shipped in an oversized box with no padding, too little padding, only air cushions as padding (which mostly get popped due to the heaviness of the set), or too much padding so whoever's taping the box shut really jams the box down, crushing the set.

I've had it happen shipping to both coasts from the first two vendors I mentioned, too, so I'm not so sure it's a regional thing.  Maybe you'd have better luck if you lived really close to a distribution center, but you're still at the mercy of whoever's packing your box and how it was handled in the warehouse.

TBH, you just can't win when it comes to getting large sets shipped.  If I order a large set online, or any set for that matter, I have pretty low expectations to the condition of the set's box when it arrives.  It does help if the set originally comes in its own Lego carton and that gets placed within a larger shipping box, although I have had some come that way that were still slightly dented on the corners due to the same inadequate packing procedures I listed above.

Honestly I don't think I've missed a thing.....I can find almost anything 50% off or more in-stores and I've even run across a strange coincidence that I can get 'some' of the 'exclusive' sets for 30% off.  I don't know if it's someone local ordering them and returning them hoping the stores then discount them so he/she can pick them up later...but it seems to happen on a regular basis.

I cannot seem to add it to my cart at that price. Either they are already sold out, or the listing is an error. Anyone else having this error?
Weird, I try to use IE as my browser and the #10251 brick bank at that price does not appear at all... I must have missed it.

Don’t know what price you are talking about. I just checked and currently there are only third party sellers starting at $270.

Easy there, it appeared at 169.95, but when you would try to add it, nothing appeared in the cart. After changing over to IE it was not available at that price. What I could not post in time, was that I moved back to Firefox and the price was gone with only 3rd party sellers.
So by the time you checked, yeah, nothing was there, but it did show at that price.
