My wife's VIP set came today. It's the top one of the two still in the packet. The print on the torso is an absolute pile of crap compared to my one. Compare the vertical lines coming from the between the mandibles going towards the centre circle. Two of the six bottom circles are almost obliterated as well. You can't tell so well in the pic but the whole thing just looks smudged and less well defined. I would not be a happy bunny if this were mine.

^ I can see it.  Not good.

To be honest, I haven't checked the quality of the print but I will.  I was more focused on making sure it was all there.  This is how mine arrived on Monday.  The entire side of the bag had split.  I took it from the courier and my response within 3 seconds was "Oh Shit!"  Before opened it.

    You just know.

Please fill out a letter of complaint. If everyone keeps venting only here how they think how lackluster this promotion run year was nothing will change.

I hope I haven't just unearthed a whole new layer of dissatisfaction for everyone as we all start examining the print on our torsos.

Unsurprisingly, the print on the official image puts them both to shame. I guess it's probably a render though?

Having seen this, now I'm feeling unhappy with my 'good' print.

Trust me, customer services are well aware of my opinion of the whole promo and the state of my recent delivery including pictures (which looked virtually identical to @Legoboy's).

Think I'm okay. But to be sure, am never moving my bag again to avoid any scuffs or scratches. First pic my flash was a bit much, hence taking another

I just got mine a few hours ago. My bag didn't split open and everything seems to be in good shape. I see the issues you guys are talking about but at 52 my eyes don't see that detail without my glasses and a magnifying glass so I guess I'm good with it. At some point you just have to throw your hands up in the air and say F%&k it.

    Bah humbug!
Just checked the tracking info at DHL.  My parcel was due to be delivered today, but 'parcel was returned to sender at 6.00 this morning'.

I feel a phone call top customer services coming on.

This is just so strange.  All of it.  I'm starting to think this was someone's pet project, rather than something coordinated with actual marketing professionals.

Or, some of those marketing professionals gave this project to the 'let's try them out, what's the worst that could happen' group.

It is probably a last minute side project they gave to an intern to quiet all the people who were complaining about the lack of benefits of the black card.

It's clearly a last minute rush job. Mine turned up yesterday and the packaging looks like a cellophane CD sleeve with sticky strip sealing on the flap - it's got no give  it'll split without stretching. Not surprised some packs didn't last the journey as the bag is meant to accommodate a thin and flat CD rather than a flowing pile of lego.

    Probably hand packed too.

It does look like a bad render, as the background of the MilF is lighter black than the torso, and that lighter square even runs into the leg part which definitely wouldn't be printed like that on the real deal...

When I printed stickers I used a VIP card image just like the one above, with nice solid lines, and it came out looking spotty, just like the real torso prints. It's like they used a lower-resolution printer for these than they do for regular production minifigures.
  • mustang69mustang69 Member Posts: 544
Mine is scheduled to be delivered today, I assume in the same box the UCS Slave 1 will be in. Keeping my fingers crossed the bag isnt split and the printing looks ok.

I think LEGO had another company do the print for these...

They must have. I've got Unitron figures over 20 years old with more complex prints that are far, far crisper than anything I've seen from the pictures of their figures that people have been sharing.

Perhaps they got the printing right by the time they got round to my one. Perhaps.

Got my order last night and the bag my card holder is in is intact. The printing looks ok but like @oldtodd33 my eyes aren’t the greatest but from what I can make out I am happy with it. Now my UCS Slave 1 sits under the Christmas tree taunting me ;)

Mine arrived yesterday safely with the package intact.  It probably helped that the box size was just right to fit the two sets I bought plus the promo, and there was not much space for the promo to get bounced around during shipping.  And the torso print is small enough that I can't make out those details without a magnifying glass, so I won't worry about it...

Last Saturday I was at a friends 40th Bday party. She figured a game of charades would be fun. When my turn came around, I passed on the first three cards because my arm wasn't long enough to be able to read the darn things. A helpful person lent me their reading glasses (note to self: do not leave house without glasses anymore) and I got the word toilet brush/scrubber... I'll let you imagine how to convey that doing pantomime.
Anyway, when my car holder arrives, I will follow @Oldfan and assemble without glasses, seems wise after all the pictures of the 'beautiful' print job. Otherwise I might just feel like flushing it.

Mine arrived today in a nice padded envelope. Much better than a box!  I haven’t opened the bag yet, but then torso looks “fine” to me.

For it what it’s worth, my order was split because the promo didn’t work in my cart. My landspeeder keychain and Xtra Polybag was shipped in a box about the size of the others displayed on this thread.

Mine arrived yesterday with #41629 Boba Fett Brickheadz. The print on my fig looks pretty good, and the bag is intact.

Cool? I guess? Mine arrived in its own padded envelope separate from my order. I wish LEGO planned out the VIP card “year of promotions” before they launched the program. It felt like they forgot about it and just threw together each of these promos last minute. I can’t even remember the one before the Y wing poster.

Well I was mostly pacified with the frame but it pisses me right off this new 'Star Wars Box' promo. That would have been a fine thing to toss into this last summer when they did nothing at all. Sure most of the boxes will just be leftover keychains and polybags but at least it looks like thought and effort went into it.

Edit, it just makes me annoyed how they clearly can do a decent promo if they actually try. At the very least this would have been a more clever way to do the giveaway of the precious metals R2. Getting a box with something even if not the big prize is better than an email saying ''JohnBob won! Here is a picture of him having fun".

I mean, I am more than happy for them to offer Star Wars stuff to all buyers but it is just salt in the wound of a very poorly run promo for this to pop up right now. I mean, this is exactly the kind of stuff the Black VIP card should have had.
