Tada it's October!

And time for another Monthly Building contest. My fourth one so had to think a bit myself. It's getting a bit darker and colder out here (and warmer for you lucky people on the other side of the earth) but I'm guessing Halloween has spread a bit everywhere. So I want to see Monsters. They have to look organic (not like a mech) atlhough I will allow grey ball joints seeing as Lego only makes them in that colour. They can be cooky, wacky, scary, strange, whatever you like. You can make a Lego representation of an existing monster or make your own creation.

Size does not matter for this competition.

Don't be shy in sharing, even if it's your first MOC, this contest is here for fun and to get those creative juices flowing. Also, if your kids want to take part and make one for themselves, feel free to post those too, always great to see what they come up with.

The Rules:

- your model must be built for the contest, not an existing MOC

- organic monsters only

- two photographs per entry only - it helps the thread load better/at all! However feel free to upload any extra images to Flickr etc. that aren't for your entry.

- you can enter as many different models as you like so long as you make a separate post for each

- contest runs till October 31st. I'll announce the winner by November 4th.

@truck730 I appreciate your effort, but would like to see more organic 'alive' looking monsters. Although I guess nothing says a monster truck can't come to live off course.

Meet Cyril the pygmy cyclops. He lives deep in a marshy forest in a colony of pygmy cyclops (cyclopses?) and spends his days wallowing in the mud and eating snails.

As Halloween approaches it often the custom to tell scary stories about monsters, and I have some stories to tell about monsters I have seen, but they aren't all that scary. You see it's a fallacy that monsters are evil, some are quite cute and friendly.

The first monster I have to tell you about is one that has found a niche in the towns. One evening, walking home after making quite merry, I heard a clatterous sound from an alley. I peeked into the darkness and saw some strange movement, a creature was raiding the bins, looking for some scraps of food.

As I approached the animal it's ears twitch and it turned to face me. I struggle to describe it, but it's expression was shocked. It considered me for a moment, then grabbed it's bounty from the bin and scurried away.

I tell you this story is true, it's exactly as I remember....although you can never trust a story told by one who'd consumed his own weight in beer that night!

The next creature I have to tell you about is something much stranger, I didn't believe it was real until I saw it myself. In fact this creature is so strange I think the only way to tell this story is in verse!

It lives in the mountains beyond Brickset towers,

Not many have seen it, despite searching for hours.

But deep in the thickest Fog,

Lives a creature, some call the Dog.

If you are brave and look long and hard,

(And have the exclusive Black VIP Card)

You'll have just a chance to see something rare,

It isn't a flower, it isn't a bear.

But it's body has large flowers,

It's arms are like sausage,

and it has some strange powers,

like seeing like avatars on this page.

Around it's feet is it's sausagey nest,

Where it lays eggs, or just rests.

What it eats is a puzzle,

but there's fangs in that muzzle.

So this creature I have given a name,

so if ever you see it you can claim,

you have seen in the place

Ok, it's getting late and I'm struggling for rhymes, but I hope you enjoyed my silly contributions - I made the creatures from the Unikitty Creative bucket set that is currently half price in Tesco. The first scene I actually built for another Halloween build, but still had it to hand so figured it was worth using. The second I whipped up in about 5 minutes for a handful of parts I had to hand.

Great to see the entries are still coming in. My son and his friend have also made a creation for this contest. I told them they couldn't win since I'm judging, but here is it nonetheles ;)

The lego Fig in the head is supposed to be like the emotions in 'Inside Out'.

I kind of ran out of time, wasn't quite happy as I was originally going for something else... but decided to take the photos all the same. I now think this is more like a weird baby T-rex than a monster anyway. I mainly used parts from #70904 Clayface Splat Attack, because initially I thought I'd like to try to build exclusively from one set.

My PC bricked, so I fetched the bricks again. It's a bat-like creature in appearance with the long tongue, it sniffs the prey with.

Okay, you have now waited long enough I think. It was a difficult choice as the monsters were very different.

The lair and the not organic monsters I am going to exclude, it was nice to see them but they did not fit the brief.

Really liked seeing some parts being used for something else, like the sausages for lips from Cyril (by Mr_Cross ) and the snake-tongue (by @bumblepants). His woodland creature was the most scary in my opnion. I liked the builds from @Mafon, especialy his last mixel-like one.

I really liked complicated builds of the rainbowmonster (@theoriginalsimonb), the pygmy cyclops and the trex baby and all were contenders for the top spot. But I got to give my prize this time to @Shib. His monsters weren't the most intricate builds, but almost all had a lot of charachter and they not only came with backstory and even rhymes. All of them made me smile and my son loved them all too.

So congratulations @Shib, I'll be checking out your wanted list and sending you a little something.

Thanks for the kindwords about the spiderweb eyes though, I think that was the bit of mine I liked most.

I have terrible trouble with the editing window too, stuff jumping around, not selecting properly, I thought it was just me :-)
