Emerald Night and 4841 Hogwarts Express - will I be able to use tracks from newer sets?

Apologies if it's a silly question, just back from a long time away from lego! I'm hoping to build the above two trains in time for Christmas and motorise them - would I be able to use the tracks from the 60198 Cargo train? Wanted to double check before splashing out on the Cargo set (now that it is discounted).

I also plan to use the Cargo train new motor for one of the trains, I realise that mods might be required and I'm fine with that, but for for as long as everything fits inside, will my trains run firmly on tracks without derailing or other accidents?

Thanks

Yes, but the Emerald Knight's turning radius may have issues on LEGO's curve pieces.
The only thing not compatible with current track is old #10153 9 volt motors, because they require metal rails for conductivity.

You shouldn't run the EN with the flexible track. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=88492c00#T=C

The EN was not designed to use the PF motor from the 60198 but you might be able to  fit it under the tender.

Welcome back! Here's an old link to a past discussion on how to make the EN run better.

Thank you guys. I ended up buying the Cargo train and the new Hogwarts Express - I liked its wheels and detail and will be modifying it to fit the motor and make the overall looks more true to the real thing. Luckily EN is perfect just as it is :) except few performance modifications, ecmo47 I've had your thread on bookmarks since long time ago!

Really excited about building a small Lego display around the Christmas tree. Thinking of Hogsmeade station MOC, Winter Village elements, and the train running through it all. We'll alternate between EN (adults) and Hogwarts Express (children). Then I also remembered the Polar Express - would just love to build this train one day, I've seen there are few great MOCs and I can't believe Lego hasn't produced it as a set yet.
