Awhile back I found a double stickered torso on a 1976 Policeman Minifigure. It has the buttons and badge sticker on the front and back of the minifigure. Thoughts?

1976? I thought the Classic Policeman Minifigure made its debut in 1978?

No, not rare. In the 70's it was a sticker sheet, and not printed. Someone put two stickers on. Not a LEGO mistake.

    You're right, it's 1978.

Early sticker sheets normally had two stickers for each minifigure.  I always interrupted this as kids got one replacement sticker if something happened to the first (water, dirt, normal wear and tear, etc.).  As gmonkey76 said, somebody just put the second sticker on the back.

It is a rare mistake to make, as most kids managed to put them on the front even if not perfectly straight.
