UK Round Robin box - any interest?

CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 17,324
Is anyone interested in doing a Round Robin box again? There hasn't been one for a few years.

For those not in the know, it is a box of stuff containing one (wo)man's junk that is another (wo)man's treasure from which you can take some things you want and replace them with things you don't want. For the last one (four years ago!), see @silentmode's thread here: https://forum.brickset.com/discussion/comment/271615.

The rules will be:
- UK only.
- Real forum members only - arbitrarily set as a Brickset member for at least six months and made 100 posts before today.

- When you receive the box, privately PM the next person for their address and also comment on the group PM that you have received the box.
- Each person can take what they want but should replace taken items with other LEGO items of similar value or type (eg: if you take three minifigures, don't replace with three 2x2 bricks; if you take a polybag, replace it with a polybag or small box set, etc). You don't need to check exact values on bricklink and do it to the penny, but just use some common sense here.
- Parts added should be new (and go in the "new" bag) or very good used condition (and go in the "used" bag). Don't put in parts that are in a condition that you would not be pleased to receive.
- LEGO items only, no clones, with one exception: decent customs from places like brickforge, brickwarriors or brickarms or customised LEGO parts (if you have painted a custom part or maybe adapted a lego part or similar) can go in the "customs" bag.
- You can add parts, minifigs, smaller sets (weight!), or other types of LEGO such as keychains, etc. but not heavy gear (or "tat" according to Huw's definition) that others are unlikely to want, including things like Ninjago spinner bases or Chima Speedorz. No instruction booklets!
- The whole package (including the box) should be 2kg or under (to keep it in the cheap 2nd class small parcel rate of £2.95.)
- When posting it, get a proof of posting.
- You should idealy post it within three days of receiving it. If you are going to be away then make a note in the group PM and you can be skipped and added back in later. Similarly if you want to drop out, then make a note in the group PM.
- If you want to, you can post images of things you have taken out here, but please don't post image of things put in as it should be a surprise for the next (and the next next ...) person.

To join in:
- Reply to this thread.
- You can add your location if you want to and if two people are in the same area then they will be placed one after the other so that they can swap the box without posting it (if you don't want to meet just don't add a location). If you know you are near another member feel free to point that out.
- I will determine the order at random (but also based on the above).
- Places might be limited, as I want to see it back in about three months.
- I will start a group PM for updates.
- There is no fee, other than the £2.95 to post the box to the next person.

So, any interest?

OK we have enough that it can go ahead but I'll wait a couple more days for entrants.

I think I can only group PM to five users, so any updates can be done here.

I'm not sure I understand. Does the box start as "fully populated" (by @CCC perhaps) so that people high on the list get a good selection, or does it somehow "fill up" as it goes round.
And is there an actual posting-proof box that can be reused, or do we all need to find suitable P&P materials?

I'll fill it to start and it should remain about the same as it goes around as people put in a rough equivalent to what they take. It'll be a shoe box, so it should be sturdy enough for the whole time so long as it is opened carefully and not cut.

The box is ready and already at about 1600g. I have a fairly strong Zavvi zbox to use.

Before I determine the order and send it on its way, does anyone have a girl aged about 5-8 interested in some early reader style Friends books? If so could you PM me.

The box is packed and ready to go, the order is:

    @HugeYellowBrick ;

Please remember to keep the box moving, it would be good if you could post here once you have sent it on so we know where it is. If you will be away and/or busy and the box is likely to come to you soon, then post here and ask to be skipped.

The box is a Zavvi zbox which is quite strong and locks shut with big tabs. Hopefully it will get all the way around. Try to open it carefully, and don't cover it with tape. If it does get damaged obviously just replace it with any box that is big enough but keep it small parcel size.

The trout of shame? That sounds interesting. Reading the instructions again, I think it's great that there's separate 'new', 'used', and 'custom' bags. I already have a selection of things I could put in, depending on what I'm taking out. I also want to thank @CCC for arranging this Round Robin. As a precursor to the Secret Santa (and my birthday coming around next month) I think will be a great surprise when you get it - looking forward to seeing the contents!
@dmcc0 - please PM me with your address whenever suits you. :-)

I didn't go for the customs bag in the end. All my spare brickforge items are packed away at the moment. So it is just new and used. But if anyone does have custom parts feel free to add them though, just stick them in a separate bag.

I'll just bet it's missing from the box by the time it gets to me :-P

It's on its way. Turns out you get free tracking / scan QR code with even second class parcels if you drop them off at the post office.

Gutted I missed out if this. When all is said and done, @CCC, I'd love to see a picture of what you placed in the box to start with and what you end up with.

@SirBrickalotOfLego, did the box arrive with you yet?
  • catwranglercatwrangler Northern IrelandMember Posts: 1,732
It must have done as he's asked me for my address. I missed a parcel today that needed to be signed for, so I assume it's the Round Robin as I'm not expecting anything else. I've had to arrange for it to be redelivered on Friday, and I'll let you guys know as soon as it arrives!

@Mr_Cross yes and like @catwrangler said it’s been sent off!
  • Mr_CrossMr_Cross East Anglia (UK)Member Posts: 909
Cool! Sorry, please accept my apologies @SirBrickalotOfLego, I thought we were supposed to be commenting when we received and/or sent it, a quick re-read of the guidelines above doesn't actually seem to require that on the thread.

If I'm honest, I think I'm being impatient. The whole concept intrigues me, and I was interested to plot the box's progress. There's a Shrodinger's cat kind of thing going on with the contents which could have been fun to explore. I was planning to document my turn but if others haven't or aren't going to I don't suppose there's a lot of point starting part way through.

It would be useful if people could post here when the box is received and/or sent on, just so everyone knows when it is likely to come round to them.

And feel free to post what you have taken out if you want to, especially if you have used it for something cool. Just don't post what you've put in as that will spoil the surprise.

I selected these parts as I’m always looking for green and brown elements to landscape/build trees and gardens. The gold is intended for an Aladdin cave of wonder plan.

Are there whole sets in the box, or just parts?
  • CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 17,324
Smaller sets, such as polybags or small boxed sets, are fine. If it fits in and doesn't go over the weight limit, go for it. There were some of my spare polys in there at the start and hopefully if removed will be replaced with something similar.

  • MaffyDMaffyD West YorkshireMember Posts: 2,431
It'll be polybags from me I think - most of my Lego is still part of the set they came in!
