Difference between new #60238 Switch Tracks and old version?

Hi all,

As per the title, what are the differences, if any, between the new #60238 Switch Tracks and the old version, #7895 Switching Tracks?

Each comes with a left and a right switch part and 4x curved rails and, as far as I can tell, they look identical. If so, I wonder why they changed the set name and number.

I can see why they did so for the new #60205 Tracks, as this seems to be a melding of #7896 Straight and Curved Rails and #8867 Flexible Train Tracks, with less of each component.

On the old one, there's what looks like a strip of metal on the piece that pivots, and a hole under this strip; I assume the metal strip is to reinforce that piece. On the new switch, that piece looks to be solid plastic. So they probably redesigned it to eliminate the need for the metal strip, making the part cheaper to make. I'm just guessing, though.

I have #60052 Cargo Train and #7895 Switching Tracks... and both have the newer, all-plastic piece! So it would seem that LEGO changed that part during the life of #7895.

That's an interesting point. I also have #60052 Cargo Train. I'll dig out the track parts when I get home and check them, but I'm 99% sure they're the same as yours, so the newer part.

Set numbers are often changed for rereleases. If nothing else, the new number brings the set number in line with other modern 5-digit set numbers. The packaging has also been changed to match other modern sets (with features like the actual size callout on the top, City minifigure branding, etc.)
