    Midichlorians?

    (hides under table)
It's ok, all the cool kids hate the sequel trilogy instead now.

Instead? I think you mistyped 'as well' :-) It's Star Wars, there's enough fandumb to go around all the trilogies...

Some people have been born, have lived their entire lives, and died since Star Wars was released.

I have only ever seen the versions where George Lucas added a bunch of unnecessary CGI stuff to them. I think Lucas did more damage to Star Wars than Disney has...

Soooo... what elements of Cloud City would be of most interest in the UCS set? - there's plenty to choose from (and I acknowledge one or two people have seen a prelim) but I wonder what potential and play functions people can actually see in certain scenes. I'd probably assume it's a carefully chosen selection of these:
    • A landing platform - it's an excuse to put a Cloud Car somewhere (a vehicle!) but otherwise I hope it's not as massive proportionally as the original set. Let's face it, landing platforms aren't particularly interesting. Could have a closing door for R2D2 to hack
    • Some of the corridor features - not very important but if there is a corridor there are plenty of interesting interior elements they could include, perhaps with a collapsing function for the final fight and some stowage space on the walls
    • The lift shafts - there was a lift in the Death Star, so I'd be quite happy to see a rudimentary set or single one here. It's another play feature
    • Leia & Han's suite/lounge - I seem to remember a very fun feature here in the Lego Star Wars videogame where the central table/sculpture folded away, but otherwise it would be a lavish rather than functional room
    • Secret rooms/Ugnaught's processing room - we appear to be getting at least one Ugnaught judging by leaks and you can easily separate Threepio into head, torso and legs so it'd be fun to see a working conveyor and some loose parts to 'throw around' in a very Chewbacca fashion. I like that Wookiee.
    • Jail cell - the classic and could also have a slide out seat. I think it would be too much to wish for to have a sound brick for the tinnitus-inducing alarm
    • The dining room - surely a dead-cert despite the fact that we never really see what happens inside. It don't think TLG would produce the 'torture room' unless we have a fairly benign looking droid.
    • The Vapour Room - another dead-cert but it'll have to improve or expand on the features in the small set from 2016, hopefully with an inset carbon chamber and crane (could be difficult though). Opportunity also for a trompe loeil infinity background like the prison block in the Death Star
    • Various maintenance corridors and chambers - could have a very good amount of collapsing or breaking functions here for where Vader uses the Force against Luke, particularly with the window.
    • The infamous gantry - surely this is another must-have although I don't know how you could fit functions in there. Just a good posing position.
    • Service hatch/tunnel and aerial - I don't see how or why TLG would implement these but worth mentioning at the finale.
They obviously can't use all of those rooms but I think there's plenty of potential and I hope some more information gradually gets out soon!

For the landing platform, instead of an actual platform for the Cloud Car to rest on, there could be a smaller platform with something sticking out that the vehicle could attach to, thus creating the illusion that it's resting on a full platform when it's docked.
  • KaitchKaitch Member Posts: 386
How about a mini MF? One of those on a platform would be nice.
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,270
^^ The landing platforms (I think there are two) are flat on the ground, rather than suspended in the air.

Not Cloud City, which is the subject of this thread.

Have we heard anything about the release yet? By this time last year we'd had two teasers for the MF.

The title is supposedly "Betrayal at Cloud City" but it might be a direct translation and the exact wording in English is probably more consistent with previous UCS sets.

It's definitely coming. Most likely in October.

#10268 should definitely be a Creator Expert set, not SW, which are 75xxx. Perhaps the rumored Eiffel Tower re-release.
  • fourstudfourstud Member Posts: 1,380
There's an Amazon page for a 21315 Star Wars set when it's the Pop Up Book so don't think too deep into it, it's an error on Amazon's part

Also, the next Creator Expert should be #10263 since the DB5 was #10262.

New rumours tonight saying announcement of Betrayal at Cloud City is imminent. Likely tomorrow.

    We’ll see.

#10263 is the Winter Village set.

Apparently it's #75222. This video seems legit, but doesn't have pictures, only the description.

^2240 pieces? I'll be very disappointed if that's true. Especially for the price. Bigger Star Wars sets (Death Star / UCS Falcon) generally have ok price per part. Seems a lot of figs for the parts count. Hoping this is BS - or at least the wrong piece count. I'd been hoping for 6000 pieces.
  • BrainsluggedBrainslugged Member Posts: 2,278
10% more parts than Insult on Hoth but 40% higher price????
  • Patrik78Patrik78 Member Posts: 142
As an occasional SW "UCS" playset collector I am once again interested in this theme. Crossing fingers wishing us a better result than the Hoth fail last time...

Imagine the outrage if there isn't enough «Betrayal» in the set to warrant the name...

Yeah 2240 pieces seems about right, given what I've seen. I'd have said between 2000 and 3000. No way it's 6000 pieces.

Very exciting. Figure count sounds about right and if the video is right it is a good mix.   Oils have probably dealt with one fewer cloud car pilot and one more bespin guard.  Ok with piece count and price if they used specialty big pieces for some portions but still TBD.

Inclusion of mini vehicles is interesting choice as well. Hopefully at the same scale as the cloud car that came with the bespin planet set.

If an 'Assault' has two Snowtroopers... a 'Betrayal' might be Lando leaving a bathroom light on.  Or eating the last bowl of Admiral Akbar Cereal.

Alternatively, if the set is designed with minimum effort like AoH, it could be a betrayal of the consumer, who will buy it either way.

(On the last go-round, AoH was a assault on my better sense to not buy a crappy compilation set with a fancy badge.)

Wow. That's not bad at all. The table's no bigger than the previous Cloud City set, and Lobot doesn't look like he's got a new headpiece, but it does look really good. It even appears to have two Stormtroopers.

  • KaitchKaitch Member Posts: 386
^ No badge. Jay from the blog thinks it's 'cause of Insult on Hoth.

It's classed as master builder series

Does that mean they are rebranding UCS or will they run the two side by side?

Good lord that box art is a hot mess.
    Completely devoid of explosions.

I don't want to lead the chorus of folks crapping on this set, but I don't get the weird scale vehicles, and vignette-sized scenes.  I think I'm spoiled by having the Ewok Village as my point of reference for large-scale SW sets.  This is definitely closer to the DS in terms of design, rather than the EV/AoH playset design.

I do like the bonanza of minifigures.  This is a solid 'Meh' for me.  But I do like that they are innovating on how they approach designing these sets.  Hopefully, it'll be a good seller.  I wouldn't mind a similarly designed Starkiller Base or Snoke's Ship if they get around to do doing new trilogy sets.

(I'll not mention a Coruscant, Naboo, Mustafar or Tatooine playset for the Prequel Trilogy.)

This sucks. It's a shapeless mess. If not for the minifigs and vehicles it'd be hard to tell what it's supposed to be. Looks like someone tried to make Cloud City out of #75159 Death Star. The box art looks like a MOC that someone photoshopped into LEGO packaging. It's $70 overpriced. Cloud Car is the wrong color and has no proper windscreen. The Carbon Freeze Chamber was done better in a $25 set.

This is pretty disappointing. I would have rather gotten a more-detailed re-release of the original Cloud City.
Agreed.  I think there will be some nostalgia linked to the original here that helps it sell, but to me this looks every bit as disappointing as AoH.  I think $70 overpriced is being generous.  I don't think I would bite at $200.
