    When it says a set is available early to VIP members is that online only or could I walk into a Lego store and pick it up?

    I love how the people portrayed by stickers (e.g. Moaning Myrtle) are also rendered as microfigs.  But am dreading the numbers of complaints we will now see about there being a zillion stickers rather than prints.

    @Legolis I've seen various "early for VIP" sets in the Lego store, with a sign stating that they are only for sale to VIPs until whatever the regular release date is. I wonder how many arguments they have with non-VIP customers. You can sign up for VIP right then and there, but I'm sure some people don't read the fine print.

    Thank you 560Heliport, handy to know. We're away on our honeymoon that week and I'd already planned a trip to the Lego store so I'm wondering if we could pick it up then. Sounds like a possibility.

    Okay so knowing it would be a microscale castle put this set to the back of my wanted list, but seeing all the different small details, all the scenes and just how beautiful this looks, it goes right on top! I just can’t ignore this set! Poor wallet...

    ^They are available in almost all the new Harry Potter sets! (There's even one in the small Aragog's Lair set)

    I'm not a big Harry Potter fan, I really liked the films but never read the books or got into it like i did with Star Wars but I have to say the sets themselves all look fantastic, from the brick built Aravog through to the exceptional Hogwarts, there isn't one that I can fault. Even the Quidditch set which would probably be my least favourite has enough memorable stuff in it to understand where and what it is. The designs of these are on par with the majority of The Lego Ninjago Movie sets and it's going to be very hard to wait for sale prices on these which is high praise coming from a non fan.

    It looks great, but not a fan of the micro figure scale. However, I’d love to get my hands on those minifigures as I have unhealthy obsession for those things.

    It’s definitely a nice looking set but I think it’s a pass for me. I just don’t think it will fit in with the rest of my setup since it’s micro scale, which is disappointing since a nice big Hogwarts would have fit nicely in my Amusement Park area.

    I am a Harry Potter novice. What part of this area of the castle does the Whomping Willow set fit in? 

    I don't know if TLG's plan is to release parts of Hogwarts so they can all fit together to form a large playset, but that would be nice.

    @pitfall69, I think the Whomping Willow set represents the archway and tower right under the Horntail's tail (where Voldy and Bella are standing).

    interesting that the great hall is bigger in micro scale than in minifig scale.

    @Pitfall69 I like the set just fine. I doubt I'll ever own it though, as the price tag is rather high.

    That said...I did somehow manage to walk out of B&N this afternoon with half the CMF series in hand.

    This is ALMOST a day 1 purchase for me, except I won't be in the country on day 1 so it'll have to wait a bit. Wonder if it'll come with any promotional polybags.

    I like it. 399.99 sucks IMO, but it is a LOT of parts, hoping for a discount at some point, otherwise it may be a non-purchase for me

    Or... things continue to be a bit quieter around here than it used to be a year or two back.

    In my case, I am quietly pondering how to budget and buy a bunch of minifigs and this all in the same month.

    I got the opposite impression. The responses here have been very positive. I have only seen the first movie and nothing else, and I’m seriously interested in it.

    And there’s a lot of reactions on the brickset homepage as well! I think there are not that much comments on here because normally the pics get leaked in advance and there’s discussion on the forum, but now everyone might’ve seen it first on the homepage.

    It’s a good build but the fact that it isn’t Minifig scale or a playset with functions makes it an instant pass! Very darn shame too as I love HP

    If I can work out where to display it, then it's a definite (probably early) purchase for me! I've already ordered a sealed box of the upcoming minifigs. I have the BrickHeadz in hand and plan to buy the normal sets come 1/August (they are not out here in the UK yet).

    Why? Apart from the fantasy setting which appeals to me, the very expensive aftermarket for the large range of old sets which retired before I rediscovered Lego, has built up a significant desire to own sets in the theme. The new sets are also very nicely designed and surprisingly well priced. I'm looking forward to many more new sets in the future.

    The price in Belgium is ridiculous compared to other European countries: BE 450€ ; FR 420€ ; DE 400€, why do they do this?

    Wow! After @wardm's comment I went in and looked at how the various prices compared to the Norwegian one, and we're not the most expensive anymore! Of course, the Brits and Americans still get it dirt cheap in comparison (I could probably save money going to London to buy it), but at least we're finally not the most expensive country anymore. Sorry for those who are :/

    There are just so many HUGE sets out in the past few years my budget is overwhelmed. I would LOVE to get the new Hogwarts, but I still need to get the Disney Castle, UCS Falcon, Diner, Roller Coaster, Fishing Store, Taj Mahal, Ninjago City and Dock, Big Ben, UCS Snowspeeder, UCS Y Wing.......if I stop paying my mortgage and buy all the Lego I want, can I maybe build a house with them and live there?

    I am not sure what I think of the set so far. The building looks very impressive and detailed. The scale is weird in some places such as the potion room. The cauldron is hilariously oversized. The nanofigs I am not sold on. They look goofy. If I ever get it I think the nanofigs would be left in a drawer. 

    But it as others have said, there are so many great sets and great big sets, and they are higher on my list or sitting waiting to be built. I will see what I think about this one next year.

    I want to see if LEGO produce any more minifig scale sets, with bits of the castle that join up like the new Great Hall and Womping Willow. Then I may decide which scale to go for.

    I'm a little confused here-is this built with normal Lego pieces? From the pictures on the Lego site it looks like a normal set but with 27 microfigs instead of minis (presumably they're micro to give the castle a more cavernous feel?). Or is this entirely built out of those annoying tiny pieces from the architecture series?

    What do you mean? All LEGO are built with normal LEGO pieces, Architecture or otherwise.

    Perhaps you're thinking of Nanoblocks?

    ^I think he may be referring to the smaller Modulex bricks.

    So, yes, Hogwarts Castle is certainly made with normal Lego pieces :)

    Sorry! Yes, i meant nanoblocks. But to ask another question-Why would Lego go with micro figs instead of minis when the dimensions of Hogwarts (22 x 27 x 16 inches) listed on the Lego site seem in proportion with something like the Disney Castle which is 29 x 18.8 x 12 inches for example?

    I get that a lot of people wanted this scaled for minifigs but it would be so unfeasible. To have made this much of the castle to scale for minifigures you’d be looking at adding at least one digit to the end of the price.

    to include as many minifigs as this includes nanofigs I recon the price would be even more ridiculous.

    i like the set, it’s a great model of Hogwarts and shows some great internal details too. Not going to have the funds for it for some time but I know that my other half would love the set too so we’ll probably get it next year at some point.


    anyone wanting a minifig scaled Hogwarts I suggest buying the Great Hall & Whomping Willow. If we’re lucky more sets that connect will be released

    I don't have the Hall, but I've just checked the measurements against my Detolf and it will fit fine
