Brickset Bonusball Bonanza - Samiam editon - Random numbre generator 14/07

snowhitiesnowhitie Member Posts: 3,078
Since the last bonusball went a bit haywire, @samiam391 's policeman is still up for grabs. The bonus ball draw is already quite close at hand so I am just going to use a random number generator once we reach 59 entries.

The question.
I am immensly looking forward to the Harry Potter sets. I am usually don't understand people staying up till 12 or really wanting to have something day 1, I like to wait for discounts. This time I am going for a day one purchase, at least of the two castle sets. I think it's mostly since my son and I are both massive Harry Potter fans (he's listening to the books for the 8th time at the moment) and we totally missed out on the first wave, except a couple of polybags I got as a Xmas present once. So really happy we get a second chance and I am enjoying the Brickheadz to bridge the gap...

I want to know which sets you've bought or are going to buy straigtaway and why. If you have never had this urge I applaud you and you can just tell us the last set you've built.

Ooh am I first? TBH not a huge HP fan at all but liking FB as a stand-alone. Shall be getting Newt’s case and maybe the carriage thing on AFOL day. Not even sure if I’ll bother with the CMFs this time. However, new Lego Movie 2 sets will be day 1 purchases.

Bought all the Jurassic world fallen kingdom sets straight away cause the movie series was my childhood and I’m working on a jp moc.

I'm going to buy the Aston Martin as long as it's in stock when I'm in Germany in a few weeks. Since everyone else seems to hate it I like my chances.

I will be getting Harry Potter sets on day one too.

I bought the Saturn V day one in store, only after seeing how fast it sold out on [email protected], as I didn’t want to wait for it to come back in stock. Same with the UCS MF, but I was able to grab one online.

I bought the original Star Wars Battlepacks... three weeks before they were released.

I am not a Day 1 kind of person. I can usually hold off for a 20% off sale, which I hope to do for Harry Potter. It'll be around for more than a year so I'm in no hurry. That is, unless my son puts it on his birthday list next month.

As far as building goes, we are working on the second level of the Palace Cinema. It's our project while we are on holiday.

I will most likely go in search of a few of the HP CMFs as soon as those are released.
  • starwars4everstarwars4ever Member Posts: 489
I've been to every "Force Friday" event at my local Lego store for the past couple of years to buy some (if not all) of the sets day one. When it's a new movie I just can't resist the hype!

The latest UCS MF as I wanted the brilliant black VIP card which got me double points on a battle pack I bought earlier this year

The Harry Potter cmfs will be a day one purchase for me, I am currently working on acquiring the new sets and have about half of them so far.

Mine was Saturn V. Lift off!

The 60s Batcave was a day one purchase for me, I believe.  I used around $90 of VIP rewards.  Had to have it before it sold out.  Little did I know they would later discount it,  which I assume is due to the then upcoming Joker Manor set.

The Harry Potter CMF’s will be my first ever (I think) day one purchase, genuinely excited to get them
  • FodderFodder Member Posts: 356
Never felt the need to buy sets on day one... However, I will go hunting for CMFs when they are released.., Although release dates from Australian retailers seems utterly random.

I like collecting odd/eccentric items so I’ll be buying something to get the new sugarcane plants pack in August.

I have bought a couple of the modulars on day 1, and probably a few Star Wars sets, #9493 if I remember correctly.
  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,119
I would say the modulars since they rarely go on sale anyway.

I just had to buy the Saturn V immediately, I couldn't risk not being able to get one... definitely my favourite set by far!

Thanks for hosting it again @snowhitie and @samiam391 :)

Wanted to buy the Docks immediately, but feel like I can wait for a good promo. Series 18 had me hunting to find them early for a policeman and will do the same for Graves in the Harry Potter series.

There's nothing coming out at the minute I'm particularly hyped for, but the first set I ever bought day 1 was the Ferris Wheel, having just bought the Mixer a few weeks earlier in preparation.
  • Toc13Toc13 Member Posts: 1,144
I'm not a day one person. I can quite happily wait until a decent discount.
My other main hobby is board-gaming & I'm the same there. Definitely not a member of the Cult of the New. Barring one or two odd exceptions, my games tend to be charity shop finds or heavily discounted.

The last sets I built were a couple of City polybags that my three year old insisted on building when she was awake at 2 in the morning (#30358 & #30349). She then raced them about a bit along with some other Lego cars before playing a couple of games & taking herself back to bed

Think the only day one purchase I’ve ever (deliberately) made was #76028 Darkseid Invasion. I’m a massive fan of Hawkman and at that point getting any characters other than Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman in DC sets was unusual so I was showing LEGO that I approved with my wallet!

The MilF (or MegaFalcon as we call it in our house) was my last day one purchase. I'd like to do the first group of upcoming Harry Potter sets and CMFs but alas, hard currency does not allow at present.
Last thing I built was the frankly awesome #75060!

    Thanks for hosting!

Harry Potter sets will be my first day 1 purchases otherwise I ususlly wait until discounted. I’ve preordered the big sets this time as they’re for my daughter.
  • MugenPowerMugenPower Member Posts: 633
I've never bought a set day 1 since I prefer to wait for deals/discounts.  Unfortunately, that meant sometimes I never got a set since it went EOL before a good deal could be had.
  • HarrymattpotterHarrymattpotter Member Posts: 46
I'll he getting some of the cheaper harry potter sets on day 1, won't be able get others until they've at least been put a while, might even wait until a discount
  • stluxstlux Member Posts: 2,450
Always happy to wait for a discount/GWP.

#70827 Ultracatty (aka Unikitty ate a Ninjago dragon for breakfast) will likely be an exception.

Might also be required by my wife to buy the Harry Potter sets on Aug 01 when they are finally available in Europe.

Thanks for hosting @snowhitie and @samiam391 for providing the prize!

I booked my flight from LA to London so I could go to sleep the afternoon I arrived, wake up at 3am and drive 300 miles to the North of England so I could snag a UCS Falcon the moment the store opened. And yet I still haven't built my Falcon yet! At least I got a black VIP card and have been revelling in all the free booty we've gotten over the past 7 months :/

I will also likely pick up that spaceship from TLM2 day one.

I buy the Ideas sets asap only because I’ve missed out on a couple and really regretted it.

I got the TRON Legacy set and The Phantom II for characters that I never thought would make it into Lego form. I couldn't get them day one, but I did eventually get them. I'm now the proud owner of Thrawn and the minifigs from TRON.

#41999 and #42056 ordered both at 6am on day of release. I happened to have early starts for work and was up anyway, so got in quick. Crawler took almost a month to arrive and the 911 I ended up cancelling and picking up in store as they kept delaying the shipping date for me because of the packaging issues.

I was also at the signing event for the Old Fishing Store too.

New sets, I'm not sure theres anything out soon that'll be a day one purchase for me.

There has only ever been one midnight purchase for me.....

    Voltron because:
    - Nostalgia, as I grew up watching it before elementary school
    - the set looks great and full of color
    - I'm interested in learning building techniques which allow for the transformation from lions into mech

Only ever proper day 1 purchase for me was Saturn V, that in itself was through pure coincidence as I had to be in South Wales for a family gathering. The even bigger coincidence was that the spare time I did have to pop into Cardiff was first thing as the doors opened, so I can fairly confidently say that I was the first ever person to buy one from the Cardiff store!
