Burnsville was still at 30% off LEGO, but with dwindling choices, so I went for best price per piece. Got 4 sets averaging out to under 5 cents/per piece:
    #70617 $69.99
    #41232 $34.99
    2x #41231 $10.49

Stopped by one of the TRUs in my area and walked out with a couple of Starfire Dimensions packs for 6 dollars (Dimensions in the electronics area was 60% off) and a few of the #31079 Creator Sunshine surfer van sets for 24.49 each. They had a ton of the fantastic beasts and Ghostbusters story packs, but did not need them. They had the LEGO display cases of 4 (or maybe 8) there, but decided against them. They also still had a bunch of the jungle sets, but was not interested in them. Sadly no large 'exclusive' type sets though.

Jackson TN TRU had zero, yes zero, Lego.  I guess it went to higher volume/big city stores.

Well my local TRU still has ~20 Ninjago Cities in stock, plus a bunch of Scuttlers and a few Quake Mechs.  Likely going to pop in and pick up a Ninjago City tomorrow night.  The parts value is hard to pass up.

If anyone wants a ~30% off UCS Snowspeeder, let me know. Mine still had a few.

You're lucky man!  I would love to grab one of those at any discount, let alone 20-30%.

I made possibly my final visit to Toys R Us. Everything is pretty picked over. I'd guess that the Lego aisle could be condensed to one side of one section now.

I bought the #31070 Turbo Track Racer for $41. Nothing else was really appealing to me.

Mine had like 60.  Bought 2 on Friday.  Hoping they go down to 40% and will buy more.  They never carried it regularly so this must have been a warehouse distribution that just happened to end up at this one TRU in my area since the others I've been to don't have that set.

Found Lego at 50% off today although sign still says 40%. Not much left though. Bought a couple of polys.

I checked the Maplewood store on Thursday evening and found no LEGO anywhere in the store. Looks like all the fun is over around here, not that we really had any of the fun stuff like modulars or UCS sets that others saw.

So will this thread live on for our Canadian friends? If only to taunt and tease the USA AFOLs at the polys and Bricktober sets that we are now missing out on.

They had a Ghostbusters HQ, and the UCS Snowspeeder behind the customer service desk about 2 weeks ago. They were 30% off but the HQ was priced at $410 and the Snowspeeder was $225. I was there a week ago all they had was Super Hero Girls sets and a few Brickheadz- sets I'd already bought far cheaper from Target and Walmart clearance sales.

My local store closes in nine days, so I went to pay my final respects tonight and bought every last LEGO set I could find: 2x ski pods, 2 Duplo polys, 1x Nexo Knights series 1 pack, 3x birthday cards, and 12x Dimensions Mission Impossible packs.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
^ Same here.  I stopped by my nears TRU ( over an hour away) and the only LEGO left were a few Duplo polys, about 10 SW Rey Constraction sets, and about 8 boxes of Ninjago movie minifigures.  Sadly I walked out not buying a thing.
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,564
^ And the discount was still only 30%?
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,482
My store it was 50% off LEGO 70% off the Dimensions.

I cleared out all of the Royal Talon polybags a few weeks ago.  I suppose I'll take a quick ride over there tomorrow for scraps...

Decided to take one last gander at TRU today during lunch break and grabbed 3 #5004931 at 70% off and a meaningless pie face game. Was shocking to walk around and see all of the white space in the store. Did manage to grab what I thought was a cool relic though:

^ That's funny. I was going to inquire about acquiring one of their shopping carts.

That basket looks so clean/new!  I would've bought one, too, if it was in that condition.  How much was it, if you don't mind me asking?

Yea that is what attracted me to it in the first place, had to kind of track it down though in the back of the store with other equipment, shelving, etc.  I paid $5 for it.

Do you plan to use it in other stores? Like a reusable bag? Could be fun!

I would love to do something nice for the employees, but I think they just want to be done with it. They are still very friendly at my local store. A few of the regulars are gone, but enough are still there that I always seem to bump into them.

Redwood City, Calif. Toys R Us. Down to last few days! They still had some interesting non LEGO stock available. I found a LEGO Friends  #5004920-1 Ski Pod for $1.80 and a Blue Mayka Toy Block Tape strip 6.5 feet for $3. Both 70% off. Anyone in the Bay Area interested, there were still about 5 Ski Pods and a bunch of Mayka strips in other colors left.

My store is gone for good now. :( Was hoping to snag a few Marvel Legends or Black Series figures and maybe some more Lego as well, but no such luck. It's just gone.

It was really sad when I saw the story about the last stores closing on the news. I will always have fond memories of going to Toys R Us when I was a kid, all the way up to today going to a TRU looking for a poly or bricktober set.

It is really sad this store could not stick around, but I think that the groups that bought it did not help it and drove it further into the ground with the increased debt load they put on the company. I think that failure to understand the company and clientele, poor management and planning, and failure to implement the plans they wanted to do (like slashing the number of stores) killed this company. I blame TRU's demise less on Walmart and Amazon and more on poor management and when the company was made private.

Here is to hoping a competent company or owner can bring it back to the US. I'm probably in the minority here, but I really do think that with a fresh start, an owner that cares about the brand and the clientele, and a better- and competent- business model, this chain could be what it once was without having 20% mark ups on toys.

Loved Child world, but I believe they were more expensive than TRU back in the day (80's). Loved the old toy store model (both TRU and Child World) of long rows filled with a type of toy. I remember the Child World near where I grew up had a HUGE die cast car aisle, tons of Matchbox (before Mattel bought them and gutted them) and Hot wheels cars, sets, etc, and a huge LEGO aisle. Went to TRU and then Child world on Saturdays.... . ahh, those were the days

ToysRUs still exists in Canada.  In fact, they seem to be going through quite a big "modernization". I guess free from the shackles of the "must all look the same" big-box model they are opening up the isles, switching to a one-line cash desk system, and building an online pickup desk.  Lookin' good!

Then maybe a mod could remove the “[US]” from the subject, or someone should start a Canadian TRU thread.

    Ooooooh kaaaay...

So, are they going to just move back into a bunch of the stores they just vacated? I suspect most of the space is still available, given the retail space glut out there.
  • HanzoHanzo Member Posts: 607
Yeah, strange situation. I understand not letting the iconic name die in the US..... but halting the process and getting stores and employees back has to be a daunting process, not to mention costly.
  • 560Heliport560Heliport Member Posts: 4,269
umm... maybe they should have figured this out, say, four months ago... BEFORE the stores closed? I hope all the employees found different jobs.
