    Why use a 1x1 brick when you can use 3 plates instead?

    Leftovers from production :) Built NINJAGO city over the weekend - why to use three 1x2 bricks when you can use 1x6 brick etc. :)

    I just looked up the review and see they put a theory about it being to avoid confusion with a regular 1x1 and he technic 1x1 bricks needed later but I don't think that's the case. 

    I suspect its a weird structural thing as these are placed right next to some curved/sloped pieces used as part of the play feature specific to this tower. I think that testing with 1x1s might have shown a slight weakness that the triple stack prevents. I'm not talking something that would cause the model to fail immediately when using the feature but more something from the stress tests i recall a designer previously mentioning in an interview where they simulate extreme conditions. 

    Or it could also be a logistical thing to do with what Bricks are used elsewhere in the set so what is essentially cheaper when considering the number of sets being produced.

    The only people who will know for sure would be working at LEGO and frankly they are unlikely to ever say.

    I am guessing that the set uses 1x1 plates in other parts of the set. So rather than adding a different part to pack they just add more of the same.

    Me neither. Kids in the age range 7+ should be able to tell the difference.

    I'm not really sure what it would do here, I would image a 1x1 brick is stronger than a stack of 3 plates.

    I imagine it is just down to numbers of different parts. They could have replaced for example, the 2x1 and 1x1 plate with a 3x1 and had two 1x1 plates on top for the same effect if it was down to strength of that stack, but that would introduce a 1x3 plate as well.

    It seems like it is an obvious, easy way to inflate piece count in a set to make it look you are getting your money's worth.

    Over on eurobricks, there's mention that the Harry Potter sets will be released on July 1st instead of August 1st. If so, that means we are only 11 days away! How exciting!

    The 1st July might just mean the two BrickHeadz that are already on the website. Deep down I'm hoping I'm wrong & they release all of them.

    Part of me is incredibly disappointed. However I do now have a lot of extra money to spend on Lego I do want.

    Personally they seem quite reasonable... I guess I'll have to buy multiples if the recent news about the UCS version is correct.  I'm expecting to be disappointed by it!

    I am struggling to imagine what a $400 nanoscale set would even look like. I guess we will find out soon enough.

    I'm really not bothered by this. I can buy the modular pieces in waves when I have the money instead of trying to come up with $400 to buy a set. If people have the money they can get the nano scale set which if it is like the hellicarrier will probably look pretty good, but wont't necessarily make others feel their collection is incomplete.

    If it is a detailed and well done Castle that is nano-scale, I am actually fine with that. The hellicarrier was awesome, and I think they could actually do a far more accurate and detailed set at that sort of scale. It will just depend, though, on how it looks. I do not think my teen will care one way or another as long as it is a full and wonderful looking Hogwarts.

    Anyone else feeling very disappointed by the nanoscale news? :( To be honest it even makes me thinking of skipping the other sets, as I have expected a huge minifig scale D2C accompanied by all the smaller sets in my collection, now the sets without D2C "killer" don't make much sense to me. Or maybe next year we will get some minifig D2C, if the line is continued?

    That was my initial reaction too Patrik78. However I'm actually feeling ok about it now. I think Shib is spot on that a D2C Hogwarts at that price point would have been disappointing.

    I've seen it suggested elsewhere that just because the D2C isn't what we wanted doesn't mean we're not still getting Hogwarts. We know these sets are designed to connect and what if each wave provides a few more sections of the castle relevant to that film/book? Meaning by the end we'd have the huge castle we're all craving and it will feel easier on the wallet by splitting it up. There's probably a good reason why this won't be the case but I'm hoping for now this may be true. If not I can't complain too much, I really like the look of these sets. I thought I'd missed Harry Potter and this is giving me the chance to own some, so yay! 

    In other news I'm happily making a shopping list of all the sets I can now afford since I won't be buying the Nano Hogwarts. :)

    This is the problem with rumors and speculation; people have built up what a great and awesome set Hogwarts would be if it was mini-figure scale.  So when they hear it might actually be micro size, they get up in arms. 
    But I agree with what other people said, a micro series is probably the only way to make one big Hogwarts set that isn't insanely expensive or doesn't look terrible, like the Helicarrier.

    No. I am not disappointed at this time. If you think about it, Disney Castle is a Castle at a hefty price point. That is about the best sort of treatment we could have gotten for Hogwarts. While I would be happy with that, actually, it would still not be accurate enough for many, and it would have been hard to represent it. I know many of us would have still liked them to try, but If they do this right, a nanoscale Hogwarts could truly be wonderful.

    At this point, I just want to see the final product. 

    Really, I am still just beyond thrilled to have anything HP after such a long hiatus.

    I agree, gettting the castle in parts makes more sense plus it will give kids the chance to at least buy part of the castle (I'm assuming not every parent has been budgetting like me since HP revival news has come out). Very excited it's July 1st instead of August, that's really not that far away!

    CMF series confirmed on the main brickset page, so I'm guessing that my family is going to be doing Harry Potter this time around. The last time the sets came out I was in my dark ages and my oldest son was only into technic. Now my oldest is 18, any my 13 year old and 9 year old are currently reading the books (13 year old is on book 5, I'm helping my 9 year old read the first book). They haven't seen that LEGO sets are coming out yet, but I know they are going to want all of them. 

    Looks like I'll have to put in more hours at my part time job. Not to get more LEGO sets, I need a bigger house! :-)

    Regarding the CMF series, is it more likely it would be focused on the original books/movies OR Fantastic Beasts? Or would there be any chance of a mixed series?

    I only ask due to the images on the link above referencing both series.

    Possibly so as not to confuse the nanofigs (the very small "trophy" figures) with microfigs (the game pieces).

    There are good images of Aragog out now, they're in the database. It will probably be the first set I get, while I wait for the discount on the big ones. I think the head looks really good, but the body needs to be beefed up a bit.

    Spoke to a manager at a local toy shop today, she said she had Harry Potter BrickHeadz in but was under very strict instructions not to put them out before the 1st July.

    Then got discussing the normal HP sets and she said she'd been told that they were expecting stick of them in about a month. To me that ties in with BrickHeadz released qst July and other wizarding World stuff 1st August

    thebrickfan.com confirms that Target got them early (though I think were supposed to put them out on July 1st still). However, IMO plenty of time to get these.. and likely on sale at some point as well. I can wait.
