Something I just thought of – there’s a decent chance the Ideas Voltron set will either be on display or on sale at SDCC.

If LEGO doesn’t go the Marvel/DC route with minifigures, could they perhaps offer up one of the characters from the original ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’ series?  Hmm...
I remember reading on the Ideas Review Results thread they had actually already announced that it'd be available at SDCC first. I never checked it out myself, though.
I sure hope it's available for purchase at SDCC.  I won't be able to wait on that one. :)

@FowlerBricks ; Which TRU Bricktober set is that? Is that the one that is planning on being released this coming October '18? I have all the Iron Men variants (minus the ungodly priced 2012 version) so I need the War Machine suit. Any idea if this is still happening?

It is this year's set. they've made it, so they had better release it. As far as I know, it's still coming. Probably from Target, since they've done the minifig box promo before, but that's just my guess.

How great would it be if, not only were it for sale at SDCC, BUT they also flew the set creator to SDCC for a booth signing? :)

I can confidently say that getting a signed Voltron set would be my top priority at SDCC this year, and it would become a centerpiece of my LEGO collection.

That would be a pretty amazing strategy for getting people to their booth, I must admit (and less divisive than a limited edition fig).

Well, Alex Ross (painter for comics and creator of KC) just posted a picture on his Facebook page showing a DC KINGDOM COME set for SDCC.

If this is legit I am screwed! I don’t know how I’m going to obtain this set but I will!

I think that's highly suspect that it's real. I'm gonna say it's not real. But will be suuuper shocked if it is.

Those figs look so fake. There's no way that's real.

Seems odd that they can print grey underpants on the batman fig but leave poor old supes and the spectre in just a thong (g_string).

Those figs are obviously customs and that would not be a real set. Don't get your hopes up

Not that exclusive, I got one of those as a freebie when I purchased my Black VIP card.

GARBAGE.  Ultron is actually better than this.  I'm afraid to see what the next one is.

I don't get how they push things for a couple years then straight dump them for something else.  Why not keep up the Brickheadz train?  Ugh.

Not sure how it would have been possible with it being a smaller cockpit but I wish the UCS Falcon could have squeezed in some of the details that this one has.

Glad that it looks like it can be easily remade with not having any too hard to find pieces.

NO DICE?! This is a stain upon the entire Star Wars line! Burn it!
But seriously, it would be cool to have a life-size set of Sabacc dice in Lego form.

I thought we were mad when these were highly desired exclusive minifigs that are near impossible to get or afford? I'm happy with the best aspect of this being the packaging.

    Wow.  Wow.

I am very happy I don't collect these.  Enjoy - you rare LEGO collectors!

(It feels like a cruel trick, but a bit on the nose.)

I agree, but they are slowly unveiling sets. Hopefully there is at least 1 exclusive minifigure

Maybe I'm crazy, but I really like the Storm build in the Aquaman set.

The builds that run $40 don't generally include an exclusive figure or parts.  It's just fun packaging really.

The minifigs usually are announced the week before or week of comic con.  They wait for the very last minute on those.

    Falcon Cockpit: definite pick-up
    Aquaman: on the fence

I can appreciate LEGO styling these boxes with a comic-centric theme.  After all, this is Comic-Con.  The box artwork brings me right back to the artwork from the 2012 SDCC exclusive minifigures...absolutely love those (and these).

Meanwhile, these box dimensions are a bit wonky.  Tall, thin, and narrow.  I much prefer the box dimensions of the 2013-2015 SDCC exclusive sets, whereby they were more balanced and display much better.  Oh well, I'm nit-picking now.

Can't wait for the minifigure reveals.

As an aside, I never was a fan of Brickheadz, and am quite thrilled LEGO has seemingly done away with them at SDCC.

May be showing my age, but to me the box looks like the box that VCR tapes came in.

^I think that's what they're aiming for. The first ones that came to mind were the old Japanese Kabaya promos, then a box of cereals haha.

Yes, saw it earlier today.  I'm terrified at what the DC minifig will be.  I'm also nervous, now that I've decided to collect the Incredibles sets for my kids, that somehow I will miss out on Frozone.  However, there seems to be no indication of his creation anywhere.

This lottery system will be more fair though it'll take the advantage away from families and people with ADA. Kids with child badges can no longer enter and ADA folks can no longer get go to the front of the line.

I do not ever recall ADA badgeholders being given front-of-line priority in the minifigure lines – in any year.

Can you or someone else please confirm or deny this?
  • vwong19vwong19 San DiegoMember Posts: 1,172
I don’t believe ADA badge holders got to go to the front of the line for the exclusive minifigures. ADA do get to use SDCC line-holder volunteers, but they had to get in line to begin with and be ready to go back in line when their turn is up. That might be a different story for early morning exclusives such as the sets, which also saw vendors and exhibitors getting early access.
  • mattytreksmattytreks San Diego, CAMember Posts: 126
And all of the ADA line talk is now a moot point with the recent changes being implemented by SDCC.

On one note I'm thrilled I no longer have to bake in the sun for hours, waiting for the chance to win a Minifigure.

On the other hand I am bummed I no longer will bake in the sun for hours, waiting for the chance to win a Minifigure.

Agree.  We have a group of 9 lined up for the lego minifig, and we'd get anywhere between 3-5 per minifig.

Now w/ the lottery, we're probably lucky to get one.  :/  I'd rather spend the time waiting for a chance than a lesser chance at the lottery.  It was basically 50/50 on the iPad based on what they would tell us.  Now there's no way of a 50/50 chance.

And regarding ADA for the minifigs, there was never an issue if one would request for an ADA helper that SDCC provides you.  You just fill out the form, and sit in the shade near the front of the line and wait for your helper to snake through the line.  Now maybe it's inconvenient to wait that long, but at least they're in the shade.

W/ regards to the morning stuff in the sails, ADA didn't have many issues unless the lines merged poorly w/ the regular attendees.  But again, it was never an issue for Lego as they always had plenty of stuff, and mostly everyone who showed up early for Lego got a chance at the ipad.

now for other vendors like Funko....that's a whole different story.

I'll miss the old days of the Lego minifgure raffle. :(   Like many others here, I was there when they had the winning ticket version of Batman and Green Lantern.  Now THOSE were the days. :)  Drop your hand in a box and pull a ticket w/ a WB stamp on it!

I like the Comic-con sets, and the minifigs, because they're just nice, lovely little things. I wouldn't mind getting replicas, but I also like the packaging, partly to have something "proper" to store them in. I could be pretty much the only one after this though. But does anyone know of there's a way to get replica kits, instructions, box and all?

And id there's a more approriate thread for this, please direct me to it, and I apologise for going off-topic.

I have to say I love that packaging.

An AMatW Luis or Hank Pym could be cool for a marvel fig. I'd say Janet Van Dyne wasp but we've seen how that turned out so maybe wait until the Firefly mold is available...

Isn't the point of going to a comic con to attend comic con events, rather than waiting in a line. Surely having a lottery with no line means people get to spend more time at the event rather than queuing. Even if it does mean more people enter (as no time cost) and so a lower chance of winning.

Comic con events have changed drastically over time.  It used to be about artists and comics, then movie and tv showed up along w/ toy companies and video game companies.

You take your pick on what you want to do.  Comic Con isn't forcing me to wait in line, I do that for the fun of it for Lego. :)  Lego outweighs certain panels or signings or whatever for me.  I can't speak for those that aren't willing to wait in the lines of old.

And honestly...everything has a line.  The Hall H line is and will always be the longest wait.  People will give up the entire day of the con and the night before to sit for a Movie or TV panel they want to see.

I think this is the loophole.  Can't have a regular set because of the stigma of Deadpool... but here's a promotional figure.

    You're probably right.

Plus it's best to have these one off characters as an exclusive than some main character.  The packaging is amazing on this fig.  The fig is cool, but probably not as cool as Deadpool Duck

Now...the lottery...I sure hope lego produced more of these!!
