As I understand it, the New Republic refused to acknowledge that the First Order was a threat.
  • GremerGremer Member Posts: 183
The New Republic demilitarized after taking power, hoping to prevent another war. Leia saw the FO as a threat and formed the Resistance to combat them.

^I'm reading harry potter and the order of the phoenix now, and this sounds very similar to that construction: the ministry of magic (new republic) says voldemort and the death eaters (first order) arent back, while the order of the phoenix (resistance) are fighting them.

^Certainly wouldn’t be the first parallel between the two series-which is rather fitting considering that they’re the franchises Disney and Warner Bros. seem to be pitting against each other.
  • GremerGremer Member Posts: 183
My friend got me a 7964 without figures. Does anyone happen to know how long it is from the end of the engines to the end of the front landing gear (those nearest the cockpit)? Thanks in advance.

That's absolutely incredible, both the build and the photography!
  • omniumomnium Member Posts: 831
I agree, that's a stunning build. The time lapse video is incredible - this was built really quite quickly, IMO.
I did wonder why they built it on an angle, rather than just tilt the camera. That's a lot of extra building. The only reason I could think was to have Rey hanging in the "rope" naturally. I'd have fudged that ;-)

They had to tilt the build otherwise the minifig dangling on that rope would not hang straight I suppose.
And, yes for sure, what an awesome MOC and fantastic photo of it!

That was my conclusion too, but as I said, I could have faked that very easily. But, if I wanted to tilt the whole thing, I'm quite sure I wouldn't have built a LEGO frame to balance it on. So that's just showing off, in my opinion. And I like a bit of showing off like that.

    ^Yeah what a bunch of show-offs!  Those guys    ;-)
I suppose you could have faked it by immersing the rope in some sort of gluey liquid that hardens, or use some copper wire etc. etc.
That 'the making of' video is was great.

I saw on BB as well, its stunning. The detail on the bulkhead is amazing in the close ups

...and we thought R3-M2 was obscure. Really nice prints though. Is the Minban Stormtrooper meant to represent a mud trooper or am I just getting in there too early? Also, wonder if Disney or Lego will crawl back the name 'mud trooper' to 'Kessel Stormtrooper' the same way they retconned 'shoretrooper' to 'Scarif Stormtrooper'?
  • BrickByBrickBrickByBrick Member Posts: 745
^ I mean, we haven't seen the movie yet... For all we know this Kessel Mine worker could be a main character and Han Solo could spend the entire movie in a mudtrooper suit...

The new Hoth Medical set looks like an excellent model for that scene. I can't help but wonder how many kids are going to pick that off the shelf though.

The Sandcrawler looks really fun and seems like a reasonable price as well. Another missed opportunity to feature Aunt Beru, we need her and a cold glass of blue milk!

I will definitely be picking up the Hoth Medical set. It will flesh-out the MOC Echo-base that I made and my son plays with so much. I think he will enjoy this set, however, like you I can`t imagine its a massive appeal for most kids (unless they have the large UCS Hoth base to add it to).

Yay for a new Hoth Medical bay! This was the main thing missing from #75098 Assault on Hoth. Yes, that set had a whole lot of other weaknesses, but I bought it on clearance nonetheless as I didn't have any previous Hoth sets yet. The new #75203 will at least address that glaring omission and gets me further on my way to a complete Hoth scene.

For those of you wondering (you are there, right?) I will not be buying the #75221 Imperial Landing Craft - that is NOT OT. Also, it's expensive, and it has holes in it.

Well, it is technically OT. It appears in the background of ANH, unless you don't count the special editions as OT. That being said, I don't blame you. It's totally overpriced.

Hoth medical bay confirms next year's UCS play set. It will be #75098 Assault on Hoth plus medical bay with one less Stormtrooper to really dial up the intensity of the battle.

I quite like some SW retconning but Rex on Endor is close to the dumbest one out there.  Just because the writer of cartoon, thirty years after the fact wants it to be so doesn't make it so.
That guy on Endor is the palest Maori I've ever seen!

    LOL I agree.
Rex was born in the wrong body, he went to the doctor and said: "I am a transracial, please give me a make-over".
I know it is totally off-topic, but when I read your comment it reminded me of this episode from a Dutch mockumentary series called '30 Minuten (Arjan Ederveen) - Geboren In Een Verkeerd Lichaam' (enter that on youtube if you care to see it) about a Frisian farmer who beliefs he is a black African from Congo. It is totally hilarious, though perhaps not suitable for PC millennial SJW types (I don't how many of those congregate here?!). Next to that, if you do not understand any Dutch, most of it might be completely lost on you?!
    ps.
back somewhat on topic, one more day, and then Solo premieres (23-05) here in NL without any SW Clone Wars or Rebels characters in it, I expect.
    ------------
    on topic!
#75218 that new X-Wing looks pretty good.

I ought to upload a pic of my cousin- blond hair, blue eyes, light skin (I think Mediterranean is a close approximation) ...but very definitely a Maori & quite scary when advancing towards you twirling a patu

^Neither your cousin, or any of the people I know or are related to that don't match physiological racial stereotypes are clones of Temeura Morrison.
I think you missed my point.
  • Toc13Toc13 Member Posts: 1,144
^ Oh no, I got the point. I'm not sure Rebels era Rex looked much like AotC Temuera either & not much like his compatriots

The wait for possible Nien Nunb in 75215 is killing me. Every time there is some new info on new sets I get excited then disappointed. I need the wee guy!

The Brick Fan has photos of a new Solo set, #75215 Cloud Rider Swoop Bikes.
I think it looks really good.

My minor beef with Episode 4, A New Hope: I'll paraphrase for brevity: Tarkin: "Tell me where the Rebels are, or I'll blow up your planet." Leia: "Dantooine." T: "Go ahead, boys, blow it up anyway." L: "What?!?" T: "You're far too trusting." Later... "Sir, we checked out Dantooine. Ain't nobody there." T: "She lied to us!" ...dumbass. How'd he get higher than Lieutenant?

My understanding is that Alderaan was sympathetic to the Rebels, Bail Organa was one of its leaders. The threat was just to get the base out of Leia, Alderaan was a goner either way.

I just found it funny that Tarkin seemed so surprised that Leia would lie to him.

I think it’s all about context. Sure, if he just asked the question Tarkin should have expected Leia to lie. And I think he might have even suspected a lie if he vaguely threatened her, expecting Leia was calling his bluff. But under the circumstances, with a freaking space station planet orbiting her home world and threatening to blow it up, he probably expected Leia to break down and confess, choosing her homeworld and parents and family over the Rebellion. What Tarkin underestimated — and what the Empire otherwise failed to understand — was the willingness of Rebels to sacrifice everything they love personally for the hope of a better tomorrow for those elsewhere and in the future. That selflessness was utterly antithetical to the value system of self-interest that spawned the Empire.

Judging by his crustiness with Krennic, Tarkin should be surprised when anyone with authority doesn't lie to him.

And of course, he expected Leia to tell the truth as she is a naive princess.  She would never lie when her homeworld is at risk?

(Frankly, she shouldn't have been surprised he destroyed her planet.)

Unless the surprise was a calculated response designed to make him believe more strongly she was telling the truth?

On a Star Wars fan site, I saw they posted images of the new Solo sets that are due to hit August 1st. I'm going to say these sets are some of the most exciting sets I've seen in a long time. A lot of cool sets.
  • KaitchKaitch Member Posts: 386
I briefly saw something on Facebook. Apparently the SDCC SW exclusive set is the Falcon's cockpit.
