Well needless to say, we really hope minecraft continues!!! My son won't stop going on about the village set and wishes it was Christmas now and santa will bring it for him!
  • FowlerBricksFowlerBricks Member Posts: 1,731
This is my guess (or wishful thinking) of some next wave sets: The Forest Mansion (how the heck they'll do that is anybody's guess. Probably like the Ocean Monument: seriously scaled down), The Desert Temple (Long overdue), maybe a Village Church and a Mineshaft to add to the one in the Mountain cave and The End City. We still need Vindicators, Evokers, Vexs, Strays, Husks and Shulkers. Silverfish and Endermites too, but they might be too small for Lego to make.

the only minecraft set I have is the jungle treehouse, which I haven't built yet. if I like it, I might get the jungle temple and witch hut
  • FowlerBricksFowlerBricks Member Posts: 1,731
@Fauch: The Jungle Treehouse is one of the best Minecraft sets, in my opinion. You should definitely build it. The Jungle Temple is pretty good too, with less play features but a very accurate exterior. If you can get the temple on sale, then it's even more worth the value. I don't have the Witch hut, so I can't say anything about that one.

I planned to build the treehouse this month, but some pieces could help me for the monthly building contest, so I'm delaying
  • FowlerBricksFowlerBricks Member Posts: 1,731
So, it seems we will be getting a chicken house with chickens in the next wave, along with more banners, rabbits, enchanted axes, villagers in $9 sets, baby zombie pigmen and a stray.

We need a 2018 Minecraft Thread!

Can't we just knock the 2017 off the title?

Or in the brickset way just keep the title and talk about what we want.

Minecraft details from leaked spanish catalogue include:

    New August releases:
    • #21145 The Skull Arena, 3 minifigs
    • #21146 The Skeleton Attack, 5 minifigs (including Skeleton Horseman)
    • #21147 {The underground adventures}, 7 minifigs
The skeleton attack set looks the most interesting but the photos are too blurry to be sure.

Retiring at the end of 2018:
Probably not going to be getting another D2C set this year, maybe next year. :)

I'm going to have to hurry up and get the first 2018 wave.
Are you up to date, @SeanTheCollector?
  • SeanTheCollectorSeanTheCollector Member Posts: 765
@JudgeChuck I only have #21140 and #21138 so far which I paid full price for. No point rushing things when I know the prices will drop. I still need to get a few  additional spare sets (I like to have at least 2 of each set). Better get myself another #21134 The Waterfall Base when I see a good price. However, my Minecraft sets are packed away for now but when they come out, I will probably get the remaining 2018 sets whatever the prices are! :)

As part of tidying up the mess created by my recent shelving collapse, I've been sorting out Minecraft parts, to create more space in my storage for new sets and I noticed that, unsurprisingly, the bulk of the implements provided are swords and pickaxes, however, I was surprised to see that nearly all the spades supplied in sets were wooden, with only one stone one and, similarly, only 3 iron axes and one wooden.
I do see that there's an enchanted axe in #21139 The Nether Fight, so that's welcome, but I would like to see at least an iron spade or two in future sets, but why not a diamond axe or spade as well? :-)

@JudgeChuck There is an iron spade (silver metalic) in #21137 The Mountain Cave. A pricy but lovely set! :)
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,576
LOL! I have #21137 The Mountain Cave. How did I miss that? I think that I must have mistaken the silver metallic for dark stone grey, for some weird reason:

OK, can we have a stone spade instead? And a stone axe? And a stone pickaxe? ;-)

Why the heck was the witch's hut and its wave-mates only available for 9 months? Has that always been the case?
  • AnkhrosAnkhros Member Posts: 28

I don't enjoy building the Minecraft sets as much as I do others. When I’m following the directions, it just seems like they decided arbitrarily where to put things. And that’s probably true. It’s a different style of designing and building. But I do like the idea of creating a huge world like msanders.

^ they certainly used it as an excuse not to stabilize any of the structures
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,662
I only picked the treehouse, which looked like the best of the theme at the time. it's not bad but definitely not one of my favourite models. good thing is the color scheme is different from all other models I have and it has good quantities of some colors you hardly see in any of my other models (like nougat)

@Pumpkin_3CK5 the Witch's Hut & the other sets in that wave have been, to the best of my knowledge, the only set available so far for such a short time frame. I'm hoping that this is because TLG is planning updated/alternate versions at some later date, especially since the Witch's Hut is the only set that contains the Witch.

@VorpalRyu Managed to snag the witch's hut on ebay; sealed, retail price, no tax, free shipping so still a win in my book lolz. I wanna see updated sets, but I wanna see LEGO do sets from Story Mode!

As reported on Eurobricks, there are official pics available for the Summer 2018 Minecraft sets on The Brick Fan and From Bricks To Bothans:

    https://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-minecraft-summer-2018-sets-revealed/
    https://www.fbtb.net/lego-minecraft/2018/05/17/preview-of-lego-minecraft-fall-assortment/

Big news is that there are new player skins available with new print, similar in style to the two skin packs, a white rabbit with demonic red eyes, a skeleton horse, a red sheep, silverfish, another golden apple, another bat, another spider-spawner, more signs and more shields!

    #21145 The Skull Arena - $19.99
    #21146 The Skeleton Attack - $39.99
    #21147 The Bedrock Adventures - $89.99

I like the look of all three of these sets and can't wait to pick them up, when they arrive.

The white bunny with demonic eyes is called a killer bunny (Minecraft top trumps taught me that!). The new skins look good and a welcone change to Steve and Alex. Love the silverfish (so annoying in game), red sheep and Skelton horse! Not so fussed about the sets themselves and the arena seems super expensive!

My son will be super excited and he'll want to get them at some point. Still missing a few from the last wave.

@msanders I think I would disagree slightly, as #21145 The Skull Arena seems to be "okay" value, at 10c per part, while #21146 The Skeleton Attack seems to be "good" value at just under 9c per part, while #21147 The Bedrock Adventures seems to be "not great" value at just under 14c per part!
OK, as ever, that is only a very rough guide to value, depending on the overall volume of parts, printing etc. and I also am waiting with bated breath to see the UK pricing...

I still need to get #21143 The Nether Portal from this year's first wave, but think all three look interesting and I'm looking forward to putting them and all my other sets and additional parts together at some point, hopefully over the summer, when the other half takes the kids to see her family for a week. :-)

You know lego is winning when $0.9 a part for a basic brick box is considered a good value.

Interestingly enough, @HugeYellowBrick is on the right track. The official name of that variant is the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, and it's the only rabbit variant that will attack the player. I believe there's roughly a 0.1% chance of any given rabbit being assigned that variant upon spawning.
#21145 looks like decent value for money and I wouldn't mind the new skins. The only new thing with #21146 is the sheep, although the sign and enchanted gear are perhaps rare enough to justify a purchase. I was really hyped for #21147 but it appears to just be an over-priced #21118 remake. If those are silverfish in the corner, though, I might be compelled to get it after all!

man, that's an underwhelming lineup. I know Lego knows which side their bread is buttered on and it ain't on huge Mountain Cave expensively priced sets but...come on...Gimme something that will take more than 45 minutes to complete...
  • Baby_YodaBaby_Yoda Member Posts: 1,295
^ I for one am glad to see smaller Lego Minecraft sets. It's a lot easier to get exactly what you want and configure your layout accordingly; it means there's more entry points; and it helps attract younger buyers who are obviously the bulk of Lego's audience, therefore ensuring the longevity of the theme. On the other hand, it looks like #21144 and #21147 are our largest sets for the year, both of which being quite underwhelming (in style, not size).

It would be very nice to see an advanced set sith some interesting redstone/technic powered functions! Come on lego, get your thinking caps on! :-)

^ Boy, that's quite a rabbit hole. With the sheer number and complexity of machines that people make with redstone, they could make an entire Technic/Minecraft crossover theme on the subject...
I recall once seeing a huge AT-AT-like four-legged walker constructed completely in vanilla, with no commands at all, that was advanced enough to react to changes in the terrain in order to climb inclines and such. Of course, it used mostly slime blocks and sticky pistons.

Minecraft is the Neil Young of Lego-simple but deeply satisfying. To put it another way-the entire Minecraft line is Lego reminding us how much can be accomplished using just their most basic building blocks. Of course i'm glad that TLG will sell a ton of these and that the Minecraft theme will carry on. But when i look at these new sets i don't see a Waterfall Base or Jungle Treehouse or Mushroom Island (to name three excellent recent sets that stand head and shoulders over what's being offered this summer) i see some not very inspired work. C'est la vie...

That's actually a good way to look at Minecraft. I prefer creator sets for that reason, but I suppose Minecraft is even more basic. That makes me dislike then less now.

It's really, really, really easy to MOC something in Minecraft style. People always complain that the sets are overpriced boxes of basic blocks with some rare prints thrown in. What do you think Minecraft is? I like it simply because it's so versatile. Well, all Lego themes are, but you don't need as much skill to build a decent-looking Minecraft model.

Some of them are exactly that. Ocean Monument, i'm looking at you...

  • Baby_YodaBaby_Yoda Member Posts: 1,295
^ That one's special. I would have snatched that up in an instant if the Monument itself was scrapped and the set was a tenth of the price. It could have been something like "The Elder Guardian".
On that note, I'd like to see some polybags released of just brick-built mobs. It'd give a chance for heaps of new ones to be introduced: new species of horse, the Llama, individual Wither and Elder Guardian, different sizes for Slimes and Magma Cubes... maybe even a CMF series with only skin variants for the player. You thought Unikitty was bad? Try feeling these blind bags.

True. There's shovels, pickaxes, axes, swords, bows and hoes, so with 20 figures that could narrow down the possibilities to roughly 3 or 4 per bag. They could even include mini-builds like TNT in there, although that's never happened in CMFs before. The largest I would expect would be a torch.

I would think there's a high chance (though not a certainty), that this would be an animated movie... so watching Carrell might be less of an issue.

I think the film was announced a few years back, sometime before Story Mode. I can't really stand the idea of Minecraft itself having a story. An adventure map with a really good plot? Fine. What is effectively a roleplay set in vanilla Survival? No thanks. And I can't see a sort of cliche-universe-type setting like Story Mode really taking off. I'm thinking the target audience would inevitably be very young.
