Pretty cute. Makes me wish I had gotten the R2 from last year.

I got 2 R2 last year, I had planned on selling them as they were not in scale with much else, now I'm glad I didn't!

Lol.  I saw this this morning but didn't report on it thinking it was an April 1st hoax.  Whoops.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by "presumed freebie"?

I strongly believe that this is the May the 4th freebie, but I cannot say it with 100% confidence.

Is there a way to tell in advance what counts as a "qualifying purchase"? And do these tend to be worldwide, across all shop sites, or just US?

I realise this is all speculation for this years', but knowing previous trends would be nice.

Generally it's any order total that adds up to $75-$100 (I think it usually tends to be a minimum of $75); someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

It's worldwide- online and in store.

Anyone see the May 2018 US store calendar yet? It's not coming up on the store site. Now that the Y-wing was officially announced I thought it would be there. I wonder if it has something to do with the Vader Pod being so close, and not wanting people to choose one or the other.

I wouldn't be against a line of polybags for various droids of this size.  At the very least now that we have a BB-8 one, I want a contrasting BB-9E...

Hmm... I wonder how the DJ polybag will fit into this or whether it'll come after. The Black VIP card marketing made it clear that Black VIP members would have the opportunity to have one, whether by a purchase limit or competition (but hopefully the former)

I was told at the local LEGO store that it’ll be out this weekend. I don’t remember if Saturday or Sunday.

Probably didn't release it on the first for fear it would be taken as a joke ;)
Maybe they should have... Free UCS falcon all month with $179,794.76 purchases. Exact threshold amount required to receive promotional item.

Anyone heard or care to speculate on which sets will be discounted for May the 4th?
  • The_RancorThe_Rancor Member Posts: 2,573
^ In terms of speculation, I'm hoping the two Freemaker Adventures sets from last year because I didn't think they were exactly selling like hot cakes, despite being quite interesting designs.

Just read this review from legoman_scotland on the BB-8 poly.. not great if your waiting for May 4th... (not sure about the head comment,  is this designed this way though? As this thread first post called it a BB-8 Bobble head.

JANG's review says pretty much the same thing. He added a few parts, one to act as a stand (a 2x2 round tile with hole) and some for added 'play value'.

FFS! Thank you for helping me not spend my money! :) But now I'll be short of Lego too lol
I did think it didn't look that great, just knew I had to have it, but, maybe not now

Make a nice little MOC base for him to sit in and it is all good. 20 or so sand pieces should do the trick.

The only problem with the design is not standing on Its own. It was designed as a bobble head, and if there's no gap it won't bobble. Plus it the only way to get that orange "R2" head at the moment.

This. Even if people think it isn't great, it has all the printed elements you need to make a better one .

Okay! So does anyone already have intel/information on which SW sets will be discounted, and on what day which particular set will be discounted by 20%, during the May the Fourth SW promo days?
Thanks a bunch to the dude/dudette who can enlighten us!

@TheBigLegoski Promobricks already has a short list of sets that will be 20% off in Europe (no guarantees that the same sets will be discounted in the US):
    • #75179 Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter
    • #75191 Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive
    • #75190 First Order Star Destroyer
Supposedly more sets will be added later tonight.

Not very interesting so far. Even #75191, a TRU exclusive, is still cheaper at TRU DE after the 20% discount.

(For the US/UK Bricksetters: TRU on the continent is not directly impacted by the bankruptcy, and has recently been bought by Smyths.)

Australia is showing 10% off 8 sets, including #75144 Snowspeeder:

    https://shop.lego.com/en-AU/star-wars-toy-promotions?icmp=LP-SHLPT-P-SW-may4th-701

We're supposed to get 20% selected sets in the UK.

Nothing yet about a possible Black VIP card promo, I'm expecting that I'll be disappointed.

  • stluxstlux Member Posts: 2,450
@Lobot The black VIP card promo is a Y-Wing blueprint. Earlier suggestions was that there was no minimum spend for Black VIP card holders, and EUR30 for everybody else. Seems it's Black VIP card holders only according to the below text now on the My LEGO VIP page page of [email protected]:

Free Exclusive LEGO® Star Wars™ Y-Wing Poster (5005624) offer is valid for VIP purchases at shop.LEGO.com, in LEGO Stores and LEGO Catalogue telephone orders from 04/05/2018 to 07/05/2018, or while stocks last. Qualifying purchase must be equal to or greater than £30 in LEGO Star Wars™ merchandise only with a valid LEGO VIP Black Card.

As a Black Card holder, I have just received a personalised code to enter at check-out to redeem the poster offer.

The poster is a real non-event, no disrespect meant to any of the creative team but the whole blueprint thing is pretty old-hat and anachronistic now imo.
I'd have preferred the reduced price to qualify for the BB8... however, a real bonus is that there is a raffle for an 18K white gold R2 that Black VIP card holders are automatically entered into. "Which was nice."*

    @stlux
    Thanks!
Unfortunately TRU.de does not deliver to The Netherlands, and the TRU.nl has higher prices, and a much more limited assortment of sets too. Also no free delivery in NL regardless of how much you spend. I have never bought anything at TRU.
Btw. Do you have a delivery address in Belgium or Germany? TRU.de does not deliver in Luxembourg either, do they?!

I don't care much for the sequel trilogy sets. I already have Kylo's Tie, which I got heavily discounted before I saw The Lost Jedi, and I still haven't built it (like so many other sets I bought over the last couple of years). The prequel trilogy Jedi starfighter set is an expensive but nice set though!

I would love to get the new Cantina set at a discount of 20% or more. It will make a nice addition to my excellent older Cantina set #75052 from 2014.

    ps.
    @Lobot
Does TLG put the same sets on special offer during the 'May the Fourth' promotion world wide, or does vary from continent/country to continent/country?
  • LobotLobot Member Posts: 1,029

@TheBigLegoski - they tend to be similar but there have been exceptions - I think it depends on regional stock levels/demand.  For example, #10227 UCS B-Wing was available in the US at 50% off one year, but it wasn't in the UK.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the initial items on sale here in the US. Perhaps they will be adding more.
  • jmeninnojmeninno Member Posts: 1,177
So really nothing on sale, and they won't double up on the promos as the Vader pod is gone from the cart.  Ugh.
  • MugenPowerMugenPower Member Posts: 633
Wow, this makes me glad super glad that I no longer live in EDT zone, which meant that I didn't waste my time staying up until midnight to see this crappy sale.
