I always feel kind of weird about displaying the CMFs without the baseplate.  Like, I know it's not REALLY part of the set, etc etc, but it still comes in the bag, and it feels like they should be standing on SOMETHING...  just another one of my weird LEGO hangups I guess :P

Caring for my father in hospice while also caring for myself through LEGO. Took awhile to set up the cases and now even longer to place the minifigures in, but I think it's coming along quite nicely. The lighting is horrible and something I'll work on in the future.

@TheFew those are kasseby units, aren’t they? How did you create those shelves/partitions?

@LuLego Yes Kasseby! The shelves are made from a mix of plates and bricks. I think the kasseby are around 6 studs deep and i think almosr exactly 52 or so studs wide. So perfect for building a frame in. Let me know if you want better pictures.

@TheFew I would like better pictures, please :D

    Thanks @TheFew
I recently bought kasseby units myself but ended up buying ‘blox’ base plates, which I cut to size as a backing. I couldn’t bring myself to hacking real lego baseplates as this would be a sin against the world. Whilst buying ‘blox’ is also a sin, cutting them up is what they deserve.

But would you mind taking a close up of how the baseplates work. Cheers.

@LuLego Hi. I am struggling to get good pictures on my phone. Basically what I did was create my own baseplate that was 4 studs deep by 52 studs wide. This was made of 2 layers of plates that over lap and support each other. The top row would be say 2x8 plates, connected together by lots of 2x4 plates at right angles undeneath. I then decided how many shelves i need and seperate them with the correct number of bricks at each end (i used 1x4 arches) with a similar 2 stacks of 1x2 bricks in the near the middle to provide extra support. Hope this helps..

Looks really smart. That’s quite a few plates and bricks but well worth it.

    @LuLego

What's the clutch like on the blox baseplates? I'd thought about doing this for my frames.
  • LuLegoLuLego UKMember Posts: 930
Does the job. I hate to promote Blox over Lego but it seemed wrong to cut genuine lego baseplates to size.

The problem I’ve found (and this would have been the same with real lego) was sticking the baseplate to the felt backing on the kasseby unit. I used double sided tape and it seems to have stuck, for now.

Yes it is a lot or parts. But i was downsizing from large ribba frames!

The baseplates are Wilkinson’s. £4 each (which I thought was a bit expensive for fake crap). But they work.
  • andheandhe UKMember Posts: 2,763
Thanks @LuLego I've seen them or similar in B&M bargains as well so may see if they're cheaper there.

Nice display, but you might want to remove the transparent bricks from the minifigures feet to prevent the legs from cracking over time... I think I've seen it mentioned before regarding brick fatigue and clear bricks.

Sorry if this is being/has been discussed elsewhere.

The rooms in our house are flooded by Hawaiian sunlight, so (I think) I need good UV protection to keep the minifigs from becoming thrift store fodder.

Which pre-fab boxes definitely have acylic/glass with strong protection against the most damaging UV rays?

And/or which websites offer such acrylic/glass in tailored sizes at fair prices?

    Mahalo in advance!

where do you get the backing pictures from? and do you print them on anything special or is it just a friendly printer and some heavy duty card? or do you do it yourself? the couple i have done are just on white care but i'd love to upgrade :)

It's 28 degrees and snowing in Western New York.  Spring started March 21st.  I don't want to take my gloves off to punch my phone because it is too cold.

Changed up up the key chain display some. I'm going to have to order a second case to fit all my key chains.

Ribba frame from Ikea, non-Lego baseplate cut to size, Lego 2x2 bricks. Not sure I'm crazy about the blue, but I need to get some dark grey 2x2 bricks to try it with the dark grey baseplate.

Just got back from an Ikea trip the other day (Edinburgh Store).  Noticed they had Oak effect Ribba frames that I've never seen before - usually only black or white.  Only saw them in the smaller size though.  Was tempted to get a few, but still have a few black and white one's left that I've not used yet.
