I have been endevouring to find more building time to stop life from being all jobs, and decided to do a couple of small sets: Awing and tracked racer. Both lovely builds. Liked how the central engine is built on the awing. And racer is making me crave the technic I have in my backlog. Reallly need to have another crack at
motorising wall•e again.
And finally, after having it waiting for a couple of years I got the ewok village built. What a wonderful, joyful build. Really want to keep adding to it. Make the trees taller, more rebels, troopers, speeders, ewoks, add ground cover. For now it will have to make do with being marauded by the at-st.
Next up: Parisian restaurant, although I may sneak in another SW spaceship first.
#60188 Ulysses Klaue Smuggling Vibranium Out Of Wakanda. Really nice set.
@Addicted2Oxygen - I love that every photo has a pirate ship of some sort.
Obviously, school nights are a bit awkward, but last night I managed this:
Not much going on with this set, but obviously the real draw is when you have the other ship built. Teenage Groot is cool, and Rocket and Thor are exactly how you'd expect. Not sure what the spinning shield generator thing is but I suppose we'll see when the film is out.
Tonight it's the turn of the Hulk Buster set.
Speaking of which, here's the Hulk Buster set:
I think it's really good. The suit is well constructed with decent articulation. There's a play feature which my son really likes, but could prevent some poses, so Lego have made it easy to remove. Falcon's "bird costume" is a little too big, but I prefer the articulation it provides (see photo). The cannon is cool, and is obviously a very cool play feature. Finally, the minifigs are as good as we come to expect from this line. Very happy!
Oh, and here is the comparison with the original:
Yep, it's better. Although the legs on the older one are more adjustable and it has stud shooters on the arms. The newer one is just more imposing.
Final thought. There are more than a few larger pieces in this set than I was expecting, but they are pretty cool or structurally significant, so I'll let it go...
(Why no stickers?!?)
I did wonder if anyone would ask though! So, for tonight's build I did this:
Really pleasant, quick build. I like the minifigs, despite Black Widow having hair that is a little too sunflower for my tastes. The foot soldiers are menacing and Cap looks great.
The way the ship unfolds is different and looks good, and I like the teal.
And because it was a small set I also did this:
Never seen Thanos look so cute. Anyone else notice what's missing though (not a missing piece, but missed in the design)?
All photos have been shrunk.
Tom is helping with the minifigs. Although I'm slightly worried he's not referring to the instructions.
That's going to be annoying. :-)
A QAV run by the National Parks, an urban pumper and tanker run by the local volunteer country fire service.
It's a good shape, easily swooshable, and the minifigs are good. Iron Man's new boosters are really big, which I think works really well in Lego scale.
Having another model attach to the back makes it a lot better, in fact you can tell there's something missing without it.
Only thing that wasn't quite good enough is the hover sled that comes out of the front. They don't have much space to work with, considering it had to fit in the cockpit, but I still think a more attractive model could be made.
A bat-dragster and some kind of robot sheep. There aren't many bigger pieces left over to build something substantial, but there was a set of wheels, so a vehicle is possible. It's a bit fragile though.
Yeah, it does suffer somewhat. Still pretty similar to an actual Ford Fiesta (as close as Lego can get anyway). I think I'll put the stickers on this one though.
I've finally had some time/energy to build abit more on the diner.
Really love how they made the brick effect and the way the window boxes work. Loving this set.
And my Easter bunny is sticing around, singing a tune.
Here's a couple more.
Completed the Parisian Restaurant. This is my favourite modular so far. Some nice little builds, lots of details, and interesting techniques. Each floor was a delight. Given how each modular has been better than the last, I am starting to have unreasonable expectations of how great the diner will be!
Worringly I had a 1x1 brick left over from the last bag. Can’t see anywhere it is missing, but suspicious about it being a spare.
@SumoLego the ghost ship is getting annoyed that the modulars are slowly squeezing its space.
The Milano and Green Mech Dragon from the Ninjago movie.
Nothing super exciting.
I have to finish up my shelving project to make more room so I can tap back into the larger sets again.
Aside from the stretched size, I didn't like the back or the front of the original so have re-designed those as far as my limited piece supply was able. I'm not happy with having two bamboo covered cabin areas either, but am going overseas shortly and wanted it done and all the spare pieces sorted away.
At some point after my return I'm going to build something more substantial at the rear, but that can wait.
Total cost was £113.84 after picking up a couple of sets cheaply, plus I had around 800/900 pieces left over so fantastic value for what it is.
I want two more now to do a proper warship with cannon etc :)
I apologize for the messy background, I was in the mood to share some pictures but not in the mood to clean up.
I also envy your 'mess'.
Then moved onto #70606 that was one of my BS secret Santa gifts
Added the corner section to my other TLNM sets that form a mini Chinatown. Need some tiles to pave it now.
My display space is rather limited at the moment (as I'm sure you can tell by the piles stacked up at the bottom of the picture...) but I was able to get all of the sets in the space I have... Really like the theme, and it's very interesting contrasting everything about it to sets that have come out in the last couple of years. You would think with a history as long as it is, 8 years wouldn't be THAT much time in terms of set design, but it really was.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this due to so many parts making up the bottle but it really is a fantastic set and I really enjoyed putting it together.
It even has the a seal of approval from the boss as she asked where did I want to display it and was quite happy for it to be out on display in the living room for all to see.
That's the sort of approved grading the AFA only dreams of. :)
More #60097 - fun.
I now have a happy AT-AT family, a cute Ghost and Hera Syndulla.
I'm going to take a short break (yeah, right!) before starting on the big Mobile Crane 42009, which I picked up on eBay, brand new and sealed, for far too much money. But looking it over I can't help thinking that Lego have made this build harder than it needed to be. I'm not talking about the technical side of things, but the finding of parts. The instruction manual is divided into six volumes - 1 to 3 for the lorry, 4 and 5 for the crane cab and 6 for the jib. There are FIFTEEN bags of parts for the lorry, all numbered '1'. Some of these parts, for example the wheels, aren't required until the very end of Book 3. Wouldn't it have been easier from the builder's point of view to have the bags of parts numbered to match the instruction volume where they're actually used? Maybe there's a technical reason why this isn't possible... Either way I know I'm going to enjoy this build too!
