Apologies for hijacking the thread a little, but just wanted to ask advice about maybe swapping medium/large numbers of specific parts. I don't have anywhere near enough parts to open a Bricklink store, even if I wanted to, but sometimes find myself with fairly large numbers of a specific part after getting a few sets cheap for parts.

Mostly I'm happy keeping them, but, for example, I managed to get a few Old Fishing Stores cheap with a view to building a whole harbourfront. Obviously I don't want them all to be clad in the sand green tile, but would like a similar number of tiles in a different, or ideally two different colours. This means I have at least 200 1x2 tiles, 70 1x3 and 180 or so 1x4 spare brand new in this colour.

If I wanted to swop them for the same tiles in a different colour is there any way of doing this that members are aware of? I realise that the sand green are likely to be more expensive than the colour I swap them for, but even I lose out on paper it's better for me than trying to sell them all piecemeal and buying again.

    Any advice appreciated

Maybe list your haves and wants in a marketplace post, you never know.

    Yeah, I think I do.

size 0 case arrived. Mount Bubblemailer grows taller.

    Listed 9 #41591
Walmart.com had it for about $7, not worth it by itself but a good throw in for free shipping. While checking prices, I figured I may as well actually list the ones I got in store for $2.50.

Just bought some 2x3 baggies. I have been running out a lot lately, got 10,000 of them this time so it shoud last me quite a while haha.

Bought them off eBay for about $37 which is great compared to the $1 per 100 I’ve been getting them for.

Sweet deal @minibricks1. Small baggies are a much better deal online, and it also saves time over small retail packages. I thought ecobox was good, but some eBay prices are way better. I was thinking of getting 2x2's can't find them any cheaper than 2x3's. I haven't found larger bags cheaper than retail - the largest box at Walmart (or maybe Target with Cartwheel) is what I do there.

One buyer said he couldn't order because the site said the package was too large and asked for a bypass password. I didn't think I had anything to bypass, but I set a password anyway. I think the problem was BL overestimating the size of polybags. Got rid of all my #30425 at a slight loss. It happens. I had the same bulk discount I do on parts but without the margin. I can have trouble flipping sets even besides this.

Got 4 more 70372, fully sorted and listed all 88, organized the rest of my nexo shield inventory too

Continued sorting some small sets that I had stopped in the middle of awhile ago.

I'm not sure whether declared value for customs includes shipping, apparently it depends on the receiving country. IMHO it makes sense to list just item price and customs can add postage value if that's how their country handles it. Heck, listing grand total could lead to postage being double counted that way.
  • DB361DB361 Member Posts: 299
Bit of an odd one this, but has anyone else had any problems with spam/waste of time Italian buyers? I've had 2 non-payers in quick succession, several asking for postage costs and then you never hear from them again, and one genuine buyer this week. Not had this problem with any other nationality.
  • RakulRakul Member Posts: 183
^ Not in awhile but the only true NPB I have had have been from 0 feedback buyers in Italy.
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,342
I haven't noticed any pattern to troublesome buyers, maybe what you're saying is a coincidence

Opened 4 #41232, recycled boxes and instruction booklets, but haven't sorted much further.

Listed leftovers from the #41129 I built, which prompted me to finish sorting the one I parted out awhile ago. By the time I finished to clear my desk I was up awfully late even for me working on orders.

From clearance S17 - 6 Hot Dog Vendor, 6 Veterinarian, 4 Corn Cob Guy, 4 Gourmet Chef, 3 Surfer, 3 Frenchman, 2 Butterfly Girl

Inventory mistakes happen, sometimes I'm a couple short, but this time the entire lot was missing. The buyer did agree to an order item removal request. Once a buyer canceled, a couple other times I had to get a replacement.

After 6 six years, several moves, fluctuating finances and shifting interests, I've decided to liquidate my BrickLink parts store. Prices are cheap now and getting cheaper. The goal is to have it all gone by April-May. Further discounts will happen every two weeks. For now, mention this Brickset post in your checkout comments and I'll apply another 10% off your order.

If you're near upstate South Carolina and would like about a zillion Sterilite drawers and containers, let me know and we'll work something out. Here's a shot of an older setup; shelves can be included too:

@Brickarmor maybe I'll look more later, what I saw so far seems like good prices for end users but not enough to buy for one's own store.

Added a S17 Highwayman, also, from TLNM - 3 Kai Kendo, 2 Misako, 2 Master Wu, 3 Gong & Guitar Rocker, Lloyd, Sushi Chef, Cole, Zane, breakfast Lloyd, Octopus, 2 Volcano Garmadon, 2 Jay Walker, 4 Flashback Garmadon, Angler, Great White

I've been sorting 41232, some I bought recently and finishing some I bought awhile ago. Not progressing as fast as I'd like. I plan to do similar with #41231 next and don't want the 41232 bags in the way. I won't list more stuff til I finish sorting it.
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,342
Finally finished sorting, listing and thoroughly repricing the 4 41232. It took several days to get around to all of it, and that was just one of many sets in my to-process pile. I really gotta cool it LEGO clearance; for instance, this was a borderline deal.

Hey! To the BrickLink sellers: have you noticed a drop in sales on BL for the month of March?
Mine have dried up completely, and I haven't done any significant change.

Just turned on Instant Checkout yesterday, thinking that not having it might have been pushing customers away. Too early to tell if it'll make a difference...
  • DB361DB361 Member Posts: 299
First week was dead for me but has picked up this week - I guess the Beast from the East had a lot to do with that. Again I've only recently activated Instant Checkout so too early to say if that's made a positive difference to sales, but the vast majority of buyers are using it.

My bricklink sales have dropped off massively in the last few months.

brickowl however is a different story! I would say brickowl sales outnumber bricklink sales by at least 3 to 1 might be as much as 4 to 1.

Is it easy to convert a store from BL to BO?

Is BO easier or harder to use than BL?

I wonder if the Bricklink changes are enough for people to just move to Brickowl for buying if they have to learn something new anyway. I know I'm not to happy with the new changes to Bricklink. It took something already clunky (but that I was used to) and made it more clunky but yet unfamiliar.

Pretty easy, took me an evening, including syncing 4,000 odd lots with bricksync.  Setting up shipping methods was the most time consuming part.

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,342
I've been doing well this month even without activating Instant Checkout or expanding to BrickOwl. For Instant Checkout, I'm mainly worried about shipping estimates being screwed up. Using only one site is keeping things simple.

Listed 46 more TLNM CMFs and lowered prices slightly. They're selling pretty well already.
Finally got through 20 #41231, which went relatively quickly, reminded of 48 #10704 except more colors at once so need more storage containers out at once. Speaking of which, I'm finally getting back to sorting those, albeit slowly.
Listed many BrickHeadz, 1 #71221, extras from sets I built, a bunch of old Bionicle masks and pins, and a handful of used parts
Sorted a lot of things I'd already listed.

Fairly easy to run on both - just the initial set up that can take a little bit of sorting out.

you need ‘bricksync’ software which copies your inventory across and then keeps both sites up to date.

I wouldnt say brickowl is any easier or harder to use then bricklink - just different! Both sites have their pros and cons!

I second the opinions given about setting up BrickOwl: simple to do with BrickSync, just requires some time to configure shipping.

Since last I posted a decent amount of orders came through, back to the levels I'm used to seeing. But the split between BO and BL is very much in favor of BO now, as @alexwil noted.

About BL's Instant Checkout, the first 2 orders went through fine.

I'm currently going through a re-pricing of everything in the store, just to keep my prices close to the average.

Besides filling current orders, I've been sorting 48 #10704 brown bags. bins on every available surface around my desk. pile is too big to find all of a lot at once.

@asrfarinha I'm constantly repricing inventory to stay a bit below average (or no higher than average if I've sold some before), and get on the first page of results for that part and color new in the US
Usually the shipping estimates work, so instant checkout is something I'll at least consider eventually, and dual selling on BrickOwl doesn't sound too painful. Yet I don't want to get too busy especially since I also have a regular job.

Just sent my largest ever value order - a small parcel to Hong Kong with Lego pieces worth over €700. Tracked and insured to the cent! Been a strange week, 4 sub €10 orders and 3 over €100. Long may it continue.

Listed a couple TLBM S2 figs I got from [email protected] to round out an order
My sales volume is up a bit for the month, and I haven't bought so much new inventory.

I occasionally get orders for a few hundred dollars, but never one for several hundred. I got my first complicated order in awhile, 125 lots $28. At least the buyer understands that might take a few days. Lately when not filling orders I've mostly been working on non-LEGO projects; I need to get back to the set 10704 brown bags.

  • BastaBasta Member Posts: 1,259
My largest orders have been from Hong Kong. Mostly sets and minifigures being bought by people who sell locally in Hong Kong. Almost all 25 copies of the City airport fire truck 60061 I had aside for partout went there. Before I could part them out the set had retired and price increased so listed them sealed.

I got too busy with BL for awhile. I'm carrying on with what I already have, but haven't been buying and listing new inventory like I used to.I'm scaling back one of my non-LEGO hobbies

    Listed a Vacation Joker

Got some tubs at WalMart with black and pink lids, colors I haven't seen at Target. Maybe I'll sort those colors from 10704 next.

I wouldn't mind that kind of annoyance... Sales have been really low for the last couple of weeks.

On the plus side, I've had plenty of time to part out sets and add more stuff to the store. Just went past 200k parts!

Been pretty slow for the last couple of months for me too, a lot slower than the same time last year. Could partly be due to a lot of very good and almost constant sales at local retailers, with 30% to 50% of a lot of sets including large exclusives. So maybe customers have been spending up on sets instead of BL orders.

On another note I finally set up auto checkout for international orders, have received a lot of (small) letter rate orders which are now making up about 30% of my total orders. International orders would have been lucky to be 5%-10% of my total orders previously.

Generally, do Cons have any bearing order-wise for your stores?

Best part is when a payment comes after going out or about to leave. Sometimes I can't make a 2nd trip or stay around, sometimes I'm busy whether with other aspects of store or something else entirely.
In general, this can be a very busy or very slow business.
I don't want to put off store tasks for too long but I don't want to get stressed out doing nothing else.

March was awesome, had multiple orders per day. I added many sets including Joker Mansion and Ninjago City. For some reason orders just stopped after that.  Just that time of the year again where everybody has better things to do than buy bricks. I am bored...

    I’m a buyer.

My sneaky tip for you sellers: wait a few hours to send an invoice.
I put in two orders this morning. The first seller had automatic checkout. I’m still waiting for the invoice of the second order but... my second order has grown quite a few times over the course of the day.

Invoicing is usually simple, so easy to do ASAP. Sometimes they add things after invoice but before paying - just remember to update the shipping cost if the order additions would mean more postage.
Got another Swimsuit Batman which I listed. Also a few dozen S18 (no Policeman or brick suit buy/girl), listings coming soon

    Added TLNM CMF's I got from @SumoLego

Additional quantities, often with price cuts (31) - 1 Cole, 1 Flashback Garmadon, 4 GPL Tech, 4 Jay Walker, 5 Kai Kendo, 3 Master Wu, 3 Misako, N-POP Girl, Shark Army Angler, Shark Army Great White, 5 Zane, 2 Gong & Guitar Rocker
Figures I didn't have in stock (19) - 4 Lloyd Garmadon, Volcano Garmadon, 5 Spinjutsu Training Nya, 6 Lloyd, 3 Shark Army General #1

I sell CMFs "Opened, not assembled, packaging not included." I added the clarification "Comes with stand and accessories."

Huh, that second N-Pop must have been the Shark Army Angler.  (Admittedly, I was going through them fast, just to ensure it wasn't 25 of the same figure.)

I had that happen with an open S10 box that had 43 Skydivers...

Usually I can identify the (lack of a) double pigtail hairpiece, but in general I'm good not perfect on CMF identification.

Sometimes when a store gets multiple cases the dregs are condensed into one tray, sounds like that happened with those S10 Skydivers

Context - @SumoLego found TLNM CMF on clearance and passed along the deal to me. He thought there were 2 N-POP Girls. I'm surprised there were any left. I wasn't worried since the price was so good anyway.

Hahaha I just received a 7-day forum ban for replying to someone who was asking what the PayPal for Marketplaces urgent notice was about. I said that Bricklink wanted everyone to swap over to PFM which allows Bricklink to hold money and issue refunds (amongst other things). [This is true btw.]

Its pretty amazing that they are ignoring everyone's real concerns about PFM and apparently don't have the desire to defend the change. I hadn't, however, realised they were actively censoring dissent until just now.

    C'est la vie.

While I'm here, I added some bargain unsorted lots to my store earlier today, and reduced 1,000s of minifig parts which are now at 50% off 6-month average. I've sold plenty of them already but a few are left, take a look.

Not sure if there's actual cause for concern with PFM or if I'm just being worried about change. By the end of the month, BL will require it for PayPal onsite. Whether or not you use PFM you can still use PayPal for payments not through the BL website. Which is more costly, making buyers do that or the risks with PFM? I still haven't set up Instant Checkout and that seems like another buyer convenience feature they're pushing.

Switching to BrickOwl seems like an extreme response but has crossed my mind.

2 more N-Pop Girls and a TLBM S1 Vacation Batman. My garbage and recycling is full of CMF packaging

I thought I was done listing BrickHeadz, then I got a bunch of Finns on clearance at TRU, also some Wonder Woman and Aquaman at WalMart. Still working on those. Because the theme has so many shared lots, it's not so difficult to handle small quantities of several different ones.

My issue with BL acting as escrow and/or making refunds on my behalf is that if they do something I don't agree with, I don't have any recourse. (1) By signing up for PFM I have already given them permission to do both things. (2) Even if I thought they had acted improperly or even illegally, who do I complain to/send legal papers to? Bricklink don't provide a physical address for the company (illegal for any company actively trading in Europe) so I just have to take it.

The other thing of course is that BL clearly plan to take their fee from every transaction as it goes through. But what about those orders paid by IBAN and other offsite payments? Are the fees for those still collected monthly or somehow collected from PFM orders? The bookkeeping for businesses here could become messy, particularly in the UK (and possibly other countries) where there are two different accounting methods.

I'll be permanently closing my BL store if they force me to switch PayPal (onsite) to PFM. It's that simple for me. Otherwise I'm agreeing that a faceless, anonymous company can do what they want with my money.

Yep, that coupled with their lack of response to concerns about the conditions that sellers have to agree to for PFM is very disturbing to me.
