I don’t recall Lando being in the sequels.

From a certain point of view, the original trilogy is a sequel trilogy to the prequels, but with that being said, you're right. Let's just say I was tired when I wrote that (:

I could see a market for a UCS Resistance Bomber.  And maybe a UCS Pumpkin X-Wing.

Past that, not too much in the way of interesting and iconic vehicles.  The Crait Ski Speeders?  A non-starter for me...

^I'd take both of those! I waited outside TRU for Force Friday in order to get #75188 Resistance Bomber as soon as possible. And I bought a second one for 37% off at Barnes and Noble, so I could build that one with red so I have both squadrons represented. And reading your post, it just occurred to me that I could have my bombers dropping the pumpkin piece from #40260 Halloween Haunt!

I wrote "sequel" instead of "original" by mistake, but I don't see why people would call me out on that. When I wrote "from a certain point of view", it was meant as a joke of me typing THE WRONG WORD. May I ask why it is so important to question my comments, and make fun of me?

Was only just quoting Luke Skywalker in ROTJ after Obi-Wan told him that what he had told him about his father/Vader, "was true...from a certain point of view." Sorry for any offense!

I'm not picking up on this anger here. We haven't had a UCS Y-Wing for a very long time so I would welcome it - I think the Snowspeeder hit the sweet spot last year too because it had been so long since the first one and people definitely appreciated the movie-accuracy and design. I'm hoping a new (unofficially confirmed) Y-Wing sits in that same bracket.

Dude, when did you get that deal at B&N? I don’t recall seeing that in the B&N thread, or I would have jumped on it. Thankfully, I found a #75188 on clearance at Walmart last Tuesday.

This thread is all over the place. What was even the logic behind the first post? What made that source trustworthy enough to even start a topic on it? And now it could be any one of five different options. "Hey guys, someone on FBTB.net said a UCS TIE Bomber is in the works! Finally something new!" Should I go on and post a topic for that? Are we banking on Lego being so predictable that eventually, anything we throw out will get produced in about 2 years' time, just so we can later say, "CALLED IT!"?
The logic is that I thought it was an interesting rumour. No, he isn't any more reliable than anyone else who posts rumours about what it could be. However, I enjoy speculating about what might or might not be next. Even if it does not come true. And while I haven't been super active I have enjoyed reading the responses. Besides, if people only ever talked about about confirmed sets this would be a really dull place as it would just be threads of people saying they really like something or hate something, or have items to sell. If you want a forum like that I would suggest heading over to Eurobricks where no one is allowed to have any fun.
But we already have speculation threads to generally discuss interesting rumors. Yes, I agree, it would be dull to talk about only confirmed sets, that's not what I was insinuating. Considering this entire topic has become "General Star Wars 2018 UCS Speculation Thread", that's fine, now in retrospect. And you better believe I want nothing to do with those Eurobricks people. I guess I'll be seeing you in my upcoming Creator Expert rumor topic I'm going to post later this year because I heard a juicy rumor from a very close, entrenched source with ties to LEGO and a soon-to-be-non-existent toy retailer about something amazing allegedly coming out this summer! Stay tuned

@Lego_Lord_Mayorca Yes perhaps this could have been posted better but it is what it is. If you really hate this thread that much why even come and post on it? Self-punishing much?

@SumoLego - UCS U Wing might actually work quite well. I've seen a really good looking MOC online and I might put it on my wishlist, if they released one... you can remind me I'm an OT purist at that time :-)

@Astrobricks I found it at a B&N with a "30% off" sticker. With my membership 10%, it was 37% off. I only saw the one I bought. It was around Christmas, I don't remember if it was before or after.

I think I've seen the same MOC, and it actually made me a little sad, because it was really good... but if it's the one I saw, the wings were fragile enough that I don't think LEGO would put out a set like it.  Maybe they would have a better way to attach the wings, but I feel like it would effect the amazing looks in a bad way.  I really hope they have a good solution to the problem and are doing one though.  It would win the best non-OT UCS set hands down I think.

A UCS U wing would look really good if they released one. It would also sell really well as the film is the most popular out of all the Disney releases. Plus it would add to the long list of rebel ships that they still need to make.

Although, part of me hopes that next year they plan to release more imperial ships.

A UCS Cloud City on the scale of the recent MF #75105 for £800, 12000-pieces? or maybe more.
I might be tempted, especially if they also hand out more special SW VIP cards, with the same SW benefits as the black one?
Maybe these could be Dark Orange or the same shade as the Cloud cars? .

I don't mind if it's a remake - if it is then I either save money as I already have one, or I buy it because I missed it first time round or the newer one is much better looking. A Y Wing would do nicely, as would a B Wing or Imperial Shuttle. An A Wing would be even better though!
I am still annoyed at the lack of an A-Wing. It was always my favorite starfighter from the original trilogy.

I'm not sure we'll ever get one though, especially considering how poor the UCS B-Wing sold (although I actually rather enjoyed that set).

12k pieces would be enough to maybe do a UCS MF scale landing platform, but probably would only make it to the entrance doors.

No Hope (should that be No "Empire Strikes Back"?)

I cannot see LEGO having two extremely large SW UCS sets out at the same time. And I doubt the UCS MF is going anywhere for a while.

Also very similar to Obi-Wans Jedi Starfighter which apparently wasn’t a great success.
Would be great to have a cheaper UCS to offset the bank breaking Falcon.

I get the impression they’re just looking at ships they can make big returns on though. Maybe Vader’s TIE will get a refresh soon.
  • RedbullgivesuwindRedbullgivesuwind Member Posts: 2,117
@CaptAPJT I agree I don't think we will get an A wing based upon how badly the B-wing sold. Although, still kick myself for missing it. I think they feel their is no appeal for niche sets.

It is the same way I doubt we will get any prequel sets due to how poorly the Jedi Starfighter  (which wasn't a bad design) did. I think lego feel people want certain sets for UCS line.
  • LobotLobot Member Posts: 1,029

The design of the B Wing's cockpit/canopy was awful and totally ruined it as far as I'm concerned; it also didn't include any minifigures which was a bad decision.  Combine that with minimal screen-time and it isn't too difficult to see why it didn't do well.

The recipe for successful UCS set is: Classic OT + quality design + (exclusive) minifigures

If the new Y Wing is on a par with the Snowspeeder, Slave 1 etc it will do very well indeed and, if the autumn set is either Cloud City or a Star Destroyer, it will do even better!

I still kind of want to see the Nubian royal starship, or a Geonosian arena. Hmm... The coolest things I can think of from the Prequels are from scenes without dialogue. Interesting.

We’re probably going to get an Assualt on Hoth style Droid Factory, though.

Will a new Cloud City affect the price of the original?
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
^At this point, I’d guess not much. The original is so old and so overpriced for what it is that I g e to think the few people buying it are buying it as a rare collection item rather than to plug a “missing piece” in their own collection. Even the minifigs aren’t able to be plugged in to a modern fleshy-face collection (except Lando). So if and when a new Cloud City comes out I don’t think it will “compete” with the original.

Most likely. The original isn't exactly a masterpiece of engineering. Most of the value is the rare bits like brown plant stems and the unique minifigs and just the rarity of the set itself. It will probably retain a fairly high level of price though just because of completionists and lack of supply.

Honestly UCS does seem like the ideal/most likely format for a Supremacy set, though decent sized Lego capital ships are few and far between.

Right. And it would be the perfect size/shape to open up and have the bridge inside it.
