I was really hoping the castle would be on the scale of the Disney Castle but at least they are making more Harry Potter sets.

With the size of the main castle in relation to the great hall, I think it will likely be somewhat larger size than the Disney Castle.  Keep in mind this is ONLY the Great Hall, not the entire castle, which is supposed to be coming in it's own large D2C set.
If that is the case then I will be extremely happy!

I wonder if we will see Ravenclaw uniforms in any of the other sets; seeing as the description for the Great Hall reveals that the house banners are reversible (possibly featuring a sticker for Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff).

In addition, I wonder if Fawkes will be a new mould as the set description implies he's included; yet isn't visible in any of the images.

The description refers to Fawkes being buildable, so probably not a single piece (though it could still include a new mold, I suppose).

A cracking set, and I'd expect that it will be a top seller!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the others...hopefully they'll be of a similar quality.

weren't there candy frogs or chocolate frogs or something? It has been a long time since I read or watched these.

probably one of the best castle sets made by lego. not sure yet if I'm getting it, depends if the big hogwarts castle is disappoiting or overpriced.
also if other sets attach to it, that's a good option to have a moderately big castle even if you skip the D2C. in another hand that sounds like a way to sell an incomplete D2C.

With no Neville minifig in the set, seems a bit strange to include his pet.

Better explanation though than a representation of the chocolate frogs. Reddish brown would suit those better. (Not appeared in that colour since 2013 though)

I’m so glad they finally made everyone’s favorite Harry Potter character, Susan Bones. Makes perfect sense.

Im on board, this set looks great, awesome minifigures, new elements and overall nice model. I think it’s a great deal at $99.99 too. TBH, the Basilisk kinda looks pitiful though.

I honestly don’t get why the Basilisk is even there since the majority of the set seems to be Sorcerer’s Stone based.

I kind of feel like Susan was supposed to be Ginny, then Lego caught wind of everyone complaining about Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw outfits!
  • stluxstlux LuxembourgMember Posts: 2,118
@SearchlightRG The Harry vs Draco duel is also a Year 2 scene. Would have made sense to then also include Gilderoy Lockhart, but maybe he'll show up in another set.

^^^I honestly thought she WAS Ginny when I first saw the pic.

^^True, but you could have Harry and Draco in the context of year one.

New photos from the NY Toy Fair - via FBTB:

    https://www.fbtb.net/lego-harry-potter/2018/02/17/toy-fair-coverage-2018-harry-potter/

    There's a few placeholders etc - Fawkes is brick-built.

Looks like a new dress/slope for Mcgonagall.

Sweet! I'm not even a HP fan and will be getting multiples. The building is cool, lots of useful pieces in some of my favourite colours, and great minifig parts. May end up selling extra copies of the figs by themselves to true fans, which is usually the opposite of what I do. :-)
Same could be said of the big Jurassic set... Awesome parts pack for MOcing... With bonus dinosaur!

My daughters are going to love this set. It looks fantastic and comes with a great selection of characters, to start them off with their very first HP sets. Can't wait to see the other sets that are coming along as well.

Curiously, the model at NY Toy Fair includes some new parts that the official images don't. The railing near the docks features some weird half-arch pieces in that classic milky white prototype color) that are replaced by regular 1x1s in the official pictures. Hard to say whether the official pics are wrong or Lego decided to make do with existing parts for the final model.

I was right about the flags being reversible to feature all 4 house coat of arms. Interestingly enough the NYTF images seem to imply some additional play features and details which aren't visible on the official images - so presumably won't be featured in the final set, but who knows.

The base of the model is thicker, it appears to feature 2 technic wheels - which can be turned to flip Draco or Harry off the table (duelling club, which possibly means the black Basilisk could be the snake Malfoy conjures during the duel). There's a pull-out black square with an image on (possibly a prototype version of the Mirror of Erised). In addition, there appears to be extra segments such as towers and more included in the NYTF version; plus the minifigures are different (McGonagall has the new dress piece, Dumbledore is the Michael Gambon version and more discrepancies). :-D

Looks like a great set. I was hoping that there would be another appearance of sand green roof elements but the grey works well. I was confused with the last wave of harry potter when they used 4 long bars instead of 3 long bars as the wands but introducing new wand elements in this set just makes it that much better.

I really enjoy the change to kids legs for the students but really hope that one day they will remake the part to include leg articulation.

Luckily it will be very easy to moc the tower into a more accurate size, looks two stories too low.

I am very excited about it. Very excited. Even though it's got stickers, even though it's only 'half' a castle, having missed the previous HP totally (besides a couple of polybags I got from a friend) I am rearing to go!

There's a post on Eurobricks from the designer which may be of interest:

'Sorry about the model that was shown at NYTF - it was an earlier version from the time before the price point of $100 was arrived at and there was some chance it was going to be $120 so it's slightly bigger and has a layer of bricks and structure at the bottom which I had to take out. It surprised me to see it in pictures and videos of the event as it's a version I built myself and was on my desk less than eight months ago. Though it's nice to let people see a step from the design process like this, and be able to talk about it, it really shouldn't be at TF!'

It's on my shopping list for 2018.... it will be interesting to see what the UK RRP is!

Had a read through Mark Stafford’s comments on Eurobricks and got to say it’s made me quite pleased that he designed the first set to be announced just because he regularly engages with the community - at least as much as he’s allowed to.

I was a little puzzled by the Basilisk, which looks a bit of something and nothing but was included for playability - looking at the set again that then completely makes sense.

Also he made an interesting comment about the Harry Potter theme including so many new parts that Jurassic World got less than usual.

If it's anything like the insane Star Wars pricing 100 bucks will probably equate to about 150 quid.

I am so excited for this theme - that looks a corker of a set for the price point - especially with the threstral. I’m going to call it now and say we’ll see that mould reused in a Hogwarts Castle set.

Think early August might be a good time to take our little one for his first trip to the LEGO shop!

Finally Lego has made an affordable stagecoach! I don't really care for HP sets, but the ones that have been revealed look amazing. I'm just hoping this won't retail for $35 here in Sweden.
