This has been really bugging me, and that train I mentioned in my response/entry is in my head choo-chooing it's way through all other thoughts, refusing to connect with any kind of clue to what it was.
After a lot of searching of supposed online databases the closest candidates I've found have been in the 9F, Britannia and Merchant Navy classes, but none of them are quite 'it', at least, I don't think they are. Perhaps the closest actual train is a Britannia class, the 70004 'William Shakespeare' Golden Arrow...

The problem is that I'm just not sure.
