Hmph! None of the Walmarts near me have Destiny’s Bounty at any price.

Not as exciting as a Bounty but I alerted the Mother-in-law to a $13 Water Strider at her local Walmart which my son has been asking for.

One is spoken for and the other two I'm just gonna hang on to to be honest. It was an hour and a half round trip drive to find them. My kids were very patient with me today as they were along for the ride.

The frustrating thing is there is a store that shows three in stock and they are nowhere to be found. Management just shrugs it off. I mean, no biggie that $500 of one sku is missing.
Yea there is a store an hour away that supposedly has four but they are nowhere to be found either.

I had found a WM on my travels and there was a Destiny's Bounty on top of the shelves and the store said they had none in stock.  So I asked an associate and they were putting 3 more on the shelves along with Minecraft Oceans Monument at full price.  They had just received more.   So maybe there's another chance to snag some again later in the year

That's still pretty exciting!  It's a really underrated set.  Personally I feel like it stands out quite a bit, especially at it's price/piece point, and that's saying something in a theme packed with great vehicles and mechs!

I agree. I think the Water Strider is one of the most impressive sets of the wave. It feels like it's the size of a $50-60 set once built, and if looks fully finished from pretty much every angle. I find it very difficult to find any flaws with it. A $13 Water Strider is exciting.

Maybe not as exciting as a Bounty at 50% off though....

I was bummed to find that there was no destiny bounty near me as it turned out to just be phantom stock. However, I was able to pick up a few brick heads at $5. The only other great deal I found was #41184 at $9.00. First set ever bought with mini dolls and an airship for 75% off was hard to pass by.

There were also multiple batwings at $45 and bat caves at $40 but passed on those.

Hope to be able to find the destiny bounty at a good sale in the future.

@abordoli yeah, whole sets aren't worth it, I part out on bricklink. $2.99 CMFs are before my time, $3.99 isn't really worth it for me either even if I pick out just the higher value figures

yeah, $3.99 makes it hardly worth the gas.
A non-WM store has remaining S17 and TLNM marked down to $3.22, and that might not be worth it either, especially since I already picked out the good ones at MSRP.

I wanted to spot a $40 batcave but there were none in my area, just want the Batsuits, and at $40 for the set, it's not a bad price for those and parts, maybe sell the rest of the figs to get some of my money back, but no luck. All I bought this year was a Dr. Strange 50% off at Target
    Wish I'd scored a bounty

The phantom stock on destiny's bounty and the ultimate batmobile is the worst I've seen with any single sku in years. Its particularly surprising given the high dollar amount of the set. Not sure what is going on.

Though I've also seen a fair amount of listings on Facebook marketplace with super cheap prices on sets like the bounty and others. When you look at the profile of the seller most times my gut tells me it's stolen merch.

I would be more inclined to think that some employees are squirreling them away somewhere for themselves, especially for sets those size.  I guess that doesn't preclude the theft possibility though.

That has to be what's going on, or a customer is stashing them somewhere in the store till they get paid or whatever.  Another store just put their Heavy Assault Walkers on clearance, it said they had three but I went over the section with a fine tooth comb with no luck, one employee remembers seeing one on the clearance isle but that's about it.

These boxes are big so theft is unlikely though not impossible.  It's frustrating but what can you do....

Yay! I just went looking for the Belle and Beast Brickheadz for $5, which I found, but I also scored a #60153 for $19! Plus a BttF level pack for $9, which I didn't need, but my friend's a big BttF fan and I figured it was a good enough deal...

If the store is set up like the local one up here, check the aisle with the TVs, especially the ones on clearance. When #41180 dropped to $30 I found several of them hidden between TV boxes.

Finally found a copy of Destiny's Bounty this morning for $100! That's still a bargain in my books, and after chasing so many phantom copies it was worth it to secure a set I've loved since I first laid eyes on it. it changed from full price on Tuesday, when I was in the store, to $100 overnight, and with the snow coming down no one else went to grab it! Can't wait to build it this weekend.

So much phantom availability for me in the LA area today. Didn't find a $69 Ultimate Batmobile nor a $40 Bat Cave nor a $40 Temple of the Ultimate Weapon that the app would show as available, but I did find a $79 #70618 Destiny's Bounty, and as consolation prizes, a $30 #70614 Lightning Jet and a $59 #60161 Jungle Exploration Site, so not too disappointed! There's was some other stuff I found that a few years ago I would've bought just because it was half off, but I'm getting better about being selective at what I buy and being less of a completist (I still find myself being a completist, just for fewer themes).

I just noticed that BrickSeek’s lowest prices on #75189 and #75190 near me have just dropped to $35 and $40 respectively, but only at stores with zero stock :(
Anyway, if stores near you have any left, you might want to check if their prices have dropped.

Rats. I called a store that supposedly had three in stock for $40 but they don't have them.

I ran into a WM today and they were lowering all their 'clearance' toys almost down to nothing.  The only thing they had left were Brickheadz for $1.  I ended up grabbing all 15.
I ended up talking to a manager at WM because this WM supposedly had 2 #75189 on their shelves for $74.  We looked around and couldn't find them, so I mentioned that they might be stolen or hidden in the store and he said sometimes when they get new shipments in their inventories are off from the start....that their shorted some....he says it happens quite frequently.

This thread inspired me to go out to a local WM today. I was searching for some $7 y-wings, but they weren't really there.. surprise surprise ;)

I did manage a nice little haul though:

2x #10702 creative building box for $7 apiece
    1x #75184 sw advent $9
1x #30425 ninjago poly $4 (not on sale just thought 2 figs for $4 was cool)

The 10702s were still sealed in a shipping carton, sitting on the top shelf-  I noticed an outer sticker that read "10702" and checked the price on the WM app. I felt a little awkward pulling the shipping carton off the shelf and opening it, but 1200 parts for $14 is a great deal haha. I'll likely add those parts to my BL store and keep the SW/poly.

So, after my earlier outing to WM, I started looking around on brickseek again. Found a local WM with a large quantity of heavily discounted City sets (80-90%!)- however, like last time, they were no where to be seen. An employee came by to restock the shelves, and I asked him if they had those sets elsewhere. He directed me to the garden area, but I couldn't find them. He then said they had 7 (!!) FO Heavy Assault Walkers in the back for $15... he went to look, but couldn't find them. He did find a nice consolation prize, however: a FO Star Destroyer for just $40.

When checking in their garden area, I did find a few Architecture sets. He said they had deleted some of them from their system, and I couldn't find their prices with the WM app. I brought them to the price checking tool instead, and found out that the New York Cities were $10 apiece- got four. There were 7 other sets (3 Louvre, 2 Buckingham, 1 London, and 1 Arc De Triomphe). The London and Arc De Triomphe were $20, so I decided against them since I'm not interested in the sets and they aren't worth much more than $30. The Louvre and Buckingham sets were the ones deleted from the system. While talking with that employee (he was very nice and helpful!) he said that the toy department manager is going to be in tomorrow, and if interested in those other sets I could come talk to them about it.

So, in the end, I got $400 worth of sets for $80 and am going to stop by again tomorrow to see if the manager will be willing to give me a discount on the remaining architecture sets. They are just trying to get rid of them, so I'm hopeful I can get them for a nice price. I'll be out that way anyways getting the oil changed in my vehicle, so its not too difficult to justify going again ;)

True, but I meant more along the lines that in my area not only is it only clearance when you can find it...for the most part, you can’t find it. It doesn’t have shelf space in a lot of the current resets and, in the stores that it does, there’s no stock.

I just recently returned to LEGO after a long absence thanks to my son and I'm looking for any pointers anyone would be willing to share about scoring deals at Walmart (as it's really the only options that's close by for me). I've had some luck so far but I feel like I've struck out far more often than I've scored a deal. I use Brickseek but it's been of little help. Any advice anyone would be willing to share?
  • YodaliciousYodalicious DagobahMember Posts: 1,366
^ I’m not a Brickseek user, so for me it’s just stopping in from time to time. If I’m near a Walmart and have some spare time, I’ll run in and check the LEGO aisle and the clearance sections. I live in a large area, so I have a lot of Walmarts, which makes it a little easier to find deals somewhere, but the key for me is to keep checking back.

For instance, once a week I get gas from the same gas station. It’s in a Walmart parking lot, so once a week I go into that Walmart. For another one, it’s in an area that doesn’t have a lot of neighborhoods. Therefore, a lot of people don’t live around it. It typically has good clearance stock. And finally, another is a very old, almost forgotten one. Those are my three go-tos. But if I’m driving around for a meeting or something and pass one, I’ll run in if I have time.

Also, I use the Walmart app too. You can search by store. So I may sit at lunch one day and search for LEGO and change between several different stores to see what they might have. Sometimes I’ll get to the store and the item is already gone, but sometimes it’s there. I typically do that on the days I don’t have a need to go out and only plan on doing so if I see a great price.

And, I use the app in-store. Instead of feverishly hunting, I’ll scan something then scroll through the similar items. That will tell me other prices and then I can hunt.

The thing is in the end though, I’ve found some GREAT deals, but if I had to add it all up, I’ve struck out more often than not. It’s not like I’m finding something every time I step in a Walmart. It’s not even every other time. I’d venture to say, all told, I have a fairly average batting average. But the key is that I do it so often. I’m fairly relentless when it comes to it. My gas station Walmart, like I said, I step foot in at least once a week. The one in the non-residential area, at least every other week. Those two have provided me with the most deals by far and it’s because I frequently visit. I found my $79 Destiny’s Bounty at one that wasn’t that price the week before and was gone the week after. I found my 80-90% off volcano sets at the other that I didn’t even see on shelves the week before, but were suddenly in the clearance section the next week.

Whatever your strategy, you’re sure to get lucky from time to time, but I would venture a guess that most of us that seem to find deal after deal after deal are consistently going into the stores just to check. But you’ll still strike out. This week, I’ve visited three of my usuals and there wasn’t anything that interested me despite some sets still hanging around on deep clearance, but tomorrow I’ll be by a store I’ve never been in, so I’ll take 10 minutes out of my day to check it out just in case.

^^ To add to that, we’re also in one of the usual clearance times of the year, but I will say over the last 12 months with many Walmarts in my area, the typical schedule seems to be thrown out. The deals I found in the past 12 months have been spread across that year. Not just in the usual clearance times. So just because we’re almost out of the typical clearance window for a bit doesn’t mean you should stop checking. There are plenty of times in my area where old sets at deep clearance will pop up, in all honestly, because someone found them in the back of the stock room.
