January 2018 catalog arrived
#10260 Downtown Diner is too big and expensive for subject matter I'm not interested in, though I may have considered a smaller version. I first thought this with Old Fishing Store
The Building Bigger Thinking sets look like a great deal for the piececount and some simple minifigures, good variant of the classic brick boxes, not in a rush to get any but may easily add some to an order.
None of the other new sets pictured stand out to me, and not just because of price.
I was put on locomotive and crane yard building. Little Miss Speedman on cable wagon, cattle cart and forklift building. And Mrs Speedman on pallet wagon building.
Then we copied one of the layouts from the back of the instructions and added our own touches. An afternoon shining around before a huge spur line was built into the kitchen to deliver chocolate!
The houses were made by Elf on the shelf, who delivered a new numbered one each day of advent.
Green Lantern is probably feeling rather left out of the Spiderman (Spider-Mans? Spider-Men?) Shenanigans - wrong universe, my son said.
The Mighty Micro, Battle Pack, TIE Fighter & Kylo's shuttle polys I picked up rummaging through the wreckage at Target. Santa came from Wal-Mart.
Meanwhile the cat is dismayed that I am disturbing his naptime with my photography:D
Also, I thought about the background 'noise' when I took the photo, but presumed that some forum members might like to guess at other presents they might be able to spot... :-)
In a wizard room watching Harry Potter :-)
Wife is building one of the freebie sets next to me - I can’t quite believe it.
If you want to build it yourself, here’s the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KwHRQ8M2v8&feature=share
*sings* The Blue Baseplate is BACK!
#10714
Called about 60 times the last 2 days.
Going to get it on Wednesday, as a birthday gift to myself on my GFs BD. ;)
The mountain is already broken down but sets will be for when we come back.
Spot the difference:
I did read on here that the printed newspaper 2x2 tile with the tree on the cover was being replaced with the firefighter rescuing the cat. The #10259 Winter Village Station I bought had the latter piece in the set and the former in the instructions but I didn't know Lego had changed over during the span of one set.
Firstly I'd like to aplogise for the lack of content during the last few months, I simply lost my focus due to personal reasons and struggled to get back up; I believe I've got myself in the right mindset and I'm hoping to change that moving forward.
Going into 2018 I'm hoping to expand my portfolio even further leading into my ideal career of becoming a product designer at LEGO. Alternatively I'm also interesting becoming a part of film production such as the art, photography or filmmaking. Having the opportunity to work on both in the form of upcoming LEGO movies would be awesome!
Majority of my future LEGO projects and creations will feature in-depth development of the project including primary / secondary research, concept art, visual development and detailed work in progress reports and updates on the projects.
I’m going to attempt to create one stop-motion animation and one short film per year. I’ll be also sharing insight and development as each project progresses much like the LEGO creations.
2017 Highlights:
- I’ve designed over 20 MOCs (My Own Creations) this year, including a good mixture of models based off existing IPs and original creations.
- Dancing Groot (BrickHeadz) blogged on The Brothers Brick.
- Exhibited my LEGO creations to the public at Excel London. It gave me the opportunity to interact with countless members of the public including adults and children of all ages.
- I was invited to Belgium for a LEGO fan event. The primary reasoning for my attendance was to exhibit my LEGO creations to the public in addition to carrying out a workshop on LEGO microscale building.
- Attended the 21310 - Old Fishing Store signing event and met the fan designer: Robert Bontenbal (RobenAnne).
- Attended the midnight launch of 75192 - Millennium Falcon. It was a pleasure meeting both Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Director of LEGO Star Wars & Michael Lee Stockwell, Designer Manager of LEGO Star Wars.
- Attended my first LUG meeting via London AFOLs, I was invited by Tim Johnson to participate due to my interest in participating in future parts festivals for New Elementary.
Thanks to everyone who has supported my work, I'm looking forward to another year of personal projects and many more awesome experiences.
Happy New Year!
The rear wing felt too wide with the 1x8 tiles, so I used 1x6 tiles.
So last year I ended up selling most of my collection as I bought my first house and needed the extra funds. Happy to say I've just bought my first set in 12 months, the Saturn V! Time to make a start on that Lego room.
Yeah, after watching it I don't get a lot of the hate for it. It was a pretty good movie, and certain parts of it were downright hilarious. I don't think it had the tons of inside jokes I was seeing it get panned for either. The only thing weaker than TLBM was the IP's popularity itself, I feel like. And I guess TLBM and TLNM definitely are different kinds of movies, so if you went in expecting the same pacing/storytelling/etc to TLBM then you would be disappointed. But if you could put that aside, it was a good movie.
I am in desperate need of a storage solution for my instruction manuals. I've filled a chest of drawers and a couple box files with the hundreds of booklets I've acquired. I really ought to look into this
How come the one you want is always at the back?
Turns out, I have just enough space!
@MaffyD you need to work with a LIFO system then, although you might end up with a 10 year old set at the back ;)
IMO, it's a bit naff. But would be interested to know others views...
Just finished the Saturn V! I need to build a better support system for it.
