^ The other good thing about using the app is what @77ncaachamps said above. It’ll show you all other LEGO items as well below the one you scanned. So I typically scan one thing then just scroll down to see what else might be discounted. Sometimes it may be hard to find the items though. Store I was in yesterday said it had the newer airport terminal set for $11. It was nowhere to be found.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes advantage of the app and checks on prices of ALL LEGO products to see if there's anything on sale/clearance!! I have also seen things that the app says are in stock but nowhere to be found. I theorize the item might be in the area where they keep all the stuff that they will restock the store with.

However, the other day I found sets that the app had said were in stock in previous months and on clearance, which backs up my theory about them being in the stock room/sorting room. Unfortunately, the items were not as cheap as they had been advertised before (Civil War airport scene was supposed to be $15, but when it appeared in the clearance section it was $30, still a great price). I also missed the airport terminal, but I'm patient...

As for Black Friday sales...I did get in an online order with #10704 for $20, but it was at midnight when the sale opened. I did notice that a lot of items had a higher price online than in store, so that might be an issue...I also noticed that around 5-ish pm, the store I live nearby wasn't as full as previous years, so maybe people decided to do online more than in-store (which, honestly, makes a lot of sense). Either way, Walmart online leaves a lot to be desired, although they have a friendlier site than Amazon, which I thought I would never say.

I was able to score a couple of the #10704 online, and grabbed 8 more in store today.

Made it to Wal-Mart just in time to see one guy with 30 or so of the creative sets in his cart roll past me.  Awesome the online limit was one while the store was a free for all.

Yeah, I still do not understand it. I get that they want to sell them, but I fail to understand the downside if they do not sell them out at the discount price. It only means they go to a shelf at full retail and if they have to then discount them in clearance later (at the same sale price likely). So not sure why they allow someone to come in and empty the pallet. Im sure there is more to it than this, but I fail to see how a hot item like this would last even if they imposed a limit 2 (heck even a limit four) in store on this item. I would think that it also increases the chance of a physical altercation IMO if you see someone trying to grab up all of them to put into their cart when someone else wants a couple.

I actually got one online and one in the store yesterday, and for the life of me, I could not find anymore around (well, I got there very late, but that means they sold out).
  • HanzoHanzo Member Posts: 607
Yeah, I mean I got one online so I can't complain too much.  It just doesn't make any sense to me to limit one but not the other (despite operational differences in online and B&M).  Looks like a page back a guy mentioned getting 24...I mean it only takes a few resellers to pop in and their stock is gone.

I am one of the cart filling/pallet emptying guys. I'll part out on BrickLink, so I'm not simply flipping them.
I got 23 in store and some online, maybe I'm who @Hanzo means by 24. I didn't see any fighting going on, that's a line I wouldn't cross. I even pointed people towards the display, which was out of the way at Hudson Avenue. Right after 6PM, I got 15 and others got 2, leaving 10. There were still 8 left around 7PM, so they weren't going that fast anyway.
I went to Dewey Avenue around 7PM Friday and they still had 21 left, right on an endcap in toys, so even 25 hours later there wasn't overwhelming demand.
I like having the money to make use of great deals, I do like the search along with the deal itself, and managing to haul it by bike.

^ They weren’t going fast at all in my area. I got to a Walmart around 1pm on Black Friday and there were still at least 50 (with another 50 of the Duplo one). Visited another Walmart closer to 5pm and they had 25+ too. Compared to past years where they were gone by 8am.

@Yodalicious definitely slower than last year, there were only 6 lego and a few duplo left by 7 PM Thursday

    Store pickup went smoothly.
Also got 1 more 10854. Christmas gifts for my 2 4-year-old cousins. Okay but not tremendous for part out anyway.
10704 back in stock online at $20 - only had enough $ handy for one more, and maybe shouldn't have done that, versus placing additional orders while still in stock

Sales of #10704 must be very different in my area. My store had 6 that I saw in the toy aisle, so I checked online. Per Brickseek (on Monday evening), 15 stores in a 50 miles radius with only 4 sold out. Four stores have 14 or more.

Likewise DUPLO sold out quicker online but LEGO
10704 out of stock online, still listed at $20, 10854 also not in stock and listed at $39.99

10704 at $20 still around in my area. Found 7 at one of the bigger, sorta newer Walmarts this morning.

Is what a sign?  Them not completely selling out?  Don't they have a sale like this every black Friday?  I am sure at some point saturation kicks in.

I bought one set spur of the moment since it was on sale. After actually looking at the parts included when I got home, I don't know how usefull they might be for supplemental building. I may return it. Maybe large quantities of the set actually make sense for some.  Just 3 to four pieces of each brick, some in odd colors, may not be that usefull. I think I am better off spending the $20 on bricklink parts I know I need.

Yeah, it has a bunch of crazy colors, my daughter seems to love it though.  But as for an AFOL, I can see how this would be a pass.

All I know if that in the past, in my area (Tampa, Florida...a decent-sized metropolitan area), these (or whatever version is was) in past years were almost impossible to get your hands on. They were gone within an hour of the Walmart opening on Thanksgiving night. I got my hands on a Duplo one at an out of the way Walmart maybe 3 years ago the morning of Black Friday, but it was the last one left. This year, I got my first LEGO one on Black Friday in the afternoon and they had a great deal of them still on shelves. This morning, they still had 7 left. I got 3 more to add to my “random” parts bin.

I, for one, don’t think it’s a sign of LEGO’s popularity decreasing and more a sign of oversupply. For instance, 3-4 years ago in my area, you jumped at store exclusives when you saw them because you didn’t know when you when or if they’d get more. The 10 the store got might be it. Now, I can walk into most Targets and easily find 5-10 of the Dr. Strange set. And they didn’t only get 10 to begin with. They got a lot more than that.

Is it a sign of where Lego is headed?

Im not sure this is a sign of things to come, other than Walmart getting cheaper with their 'deal' sets (like every store does with every other 'deal' on BF).
I think the other part to this is that in past years it has been 1500 pieces for 30 dollars. now it is 900 pieces for 20. I think part of it is the feeling (legit or perceived) of this not being a great value to many, and that many already have the past sets with 1500 parts (like I have) and do not feel like buying these. Never mind, with Walmart stocks, it is always YMMV. No Walmarts have these around me at all. Whereas some will report these super discounted at their local store with end caps full.
So to sum it up. IMO do not look too much into a store having stock after BF.

LIke @Yodalicious mentioned, these Black Friday sets would fly off the shelves in the first couple hours.  Hopefully, it really is just an issue of over supplying but I don't think it is helping Lego's "premium" image with so many being left over.

@madforLEGO I just pick this one up from Walmart today and I must say, it feels much lighter than last year's (as in even less than half of last years).   I'm actually surprised that this set includes 900 pieces going by the weight alone.
  • HanzoHanzo Member Posts: 607
Yeah, it's a meh box with a lot of tiny parts, but I feel it's still worth $20....but the $40 RRP, hell to the no.  But yeah, I had heard a few places say if you weren't in line Black Friday morning you weren't getting one, and that was clearly not the case.  I don't see how it hurts the brand though not selling out.  I mean we forget we're the vast minority of Lego customers, we may find it odd, but the parent coming across them still at $20 today will probably think they scored a deal.

Parisian slightly below $130... been stalking this one for a while. I know that is not enough for some people, but figure any sale on these I find pretty sweet. Not many left.

Brick assortments often lack splashy parts. I just need a good enough deal and high enough quantity for my BrickLink store, and Black Friday week provided that. I have plenty of a personal stockpile already, but I might pull specific parts from my store inventory if a project calls for it.

#21312 Women of NASA in and out of stock online. After a few alerts, I did get in an order for 2. They don't seem to have a quantity limit (maybe why they run out so quick), 1 wasn't enough for free shipping and I didn't have time to think of something else to add.
  • MegtheCatMegtheCat Member Posts: 500
^I recommend "ship to store" if you have that choice - it's free & sometimes offers a discount.

On this order they didn't offer store pickup let alone at a discount. The did offer a tiny discount for slower shipping which I took.
They canceled my order with a comment about technical difficulties (maybe my order went through before the website knew they were out?)

^I didn't get a discount either when I did it, but I've read other comments alluding to it on here. I am sure many stores are having inventory "issues" at this time of year. The warehouse I work in has them all year long.

I don't know - most of our errors are definitely of the human variety.

Since yours was a Lego order, maybe Walmart's system has come down with whatever is wrong with the [email protected] system!

It's days after Christmas, I expect to find nothing where it should be in the toy dept.  My stores look like a tactical nuke went off in the section.
