I am 20 steps in and no missing pieces so far. I thought these things would come with a  parts list...but nope (I know, I could probably find one on-line).  It seems I have to build it to see if it is missing anything...which is fine, I've never built a Technic model before - it's interesting.
Well, I built it.  It was missing a few parts. Some of which are common enough that I was able to pick them out of other bulk boxes I have sitting here pretty easily. A couple of which I PROBABLY have here somewhere, if I look hard enough.  But one is a $5 part that I will have to order, which kinda sucks. It's not CRITICAL...but I want the set to be complete.

This was a pretty satisfying build for my first Technic build.  The steering mechanism is poorly designed though. And there are a couple of things I wonder what it is for, or why they did it that way.

Sigh seller canceled on me and said wrong price was listed. Only wish my 6 year old daughter wouldn' have been excited when I told her because she wanted it for her birthday. Why life, why?

Not sure if a brag or lament - Dropped into a local charity shop on my way to play some games & they had 3 bags of Lego, decent amount, for £4.99. I tried to see what minifigs were in each one & grabbed the one with more Star Wars. While I was walking, I decided to look into the minifigs from the other bags- I'd apparently passed up on Nova & Dr Doom plus I saw Impy guard & a Darth Vader helmet in the other two. I phoned to store intending to ask them to hold them until I could get back but they had sold pretty much the same time as I was there.
On the plus side, I did get Most of the helicopter, Spidey & Beetle from the Daily Bugle set, Luke from #9493 (I could tell it was that owing to two part wings from the X-wing). Riddler & Catwoman made an appearance as well as a couple of Snowtroopers & some as yet unidentified. There was also stuff from a Ninjago shrine set.
Now, if only the person who bought the other two bags is on here & we can sort out completing sets between us :-)

^That's where I run into problems at the local thrift stores. More often than not they are selling bags of LEGO that contain parts from multiple sets, rather than having parts sorted by set. The only way to complete a set is to buy all the bags they have for sale.

The ones that really drive me nuts are when I come up a few pieces short, and then find a bag 3 months later with the missing parts in the same store. One of the bags I got last weekend contained parts I was missing for four different sets.

Just found a 10lb lot on eBay for $60. Pretty decent $/lb. However, it appears to have most of a UCS R2-D2, which is worth ~$225-250. Fingers crossed that most of the pieces are there.

Hey, at least your thirft stores HAVE Legos.

In other news - I got a 8297 Technic set, in unopened box, for $100. That's a 2008 set that originally sold for $120 retail - so I think I did OK.

Went to my local LEGO store today... picked up Creator Ferrari F40 for $79.99 (last one) and a couple other sets and scored 3 giveaways... gingerbread, Master Wu, and a nutcracker. I then stopped by B&N and picked up a few sets at 50% off. With a little hair dryer magic, each of the B&N stickers came off without a problem. Not bad for a Sunday.

My local Lego store had one Palace Cinema left. I know others have found it cheaper, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Not much of a deal but found 10739 for £3  at a local ASDA
  • alaskaguyalaskaguy Member Posts: 335

$26 for everything pictured (except yellow and red base plates). There are four or five pilot minifigs in the aircrafts, one the police station, plus the four plainly visible.

Oh, plus the fully built police dog van from 4441, that I forgot to put in above photo and a prisoner minifig, in the back of one of the vehicles that you can't see.

No kidding, eh?  I gotta figure out what at least one of them is from so I can get the missing parts.

    I would start with #4439 :)

The middle blue one on the right with "Air Taxi" printed on it is from #3222

Weird, it looks to me like you have two (on top of 4439 & second from the bottom on the left) partial ones that came with the 4440 police station!

Not the best find, but couldn't pass this up at 50% off (I'm sure it could go lower, but as always, with my luck, I wouldn't find any).

Edit: the boxes available all were beaten up, but I don't mind it.

Yeah yeah smart guys - I wasn't talking about the ones with identifiable markings (:

OK - that's helpful. Those two are ones I was talking about.

Plus the one in the far lower left, and the uppermost one on the yellow plate.

That little building is some kind of Sheriff's shack. Looks like he is tracking some kind of outdoor criminal based on the markings inside. No idea what the thing in the upper right is from.

Also, I put the engine in the lower right of the red plate on the HD helicopter. Now it needs one more engine (:

Update: Looking at set 4440, it looks like some of the large "chunks" I have may be from that set.  Yeah...seems like it. I have the assembled roof over the jail cells, and the center section with the police sign part of the roof (no radar tower though), with the windows. No whole left side, gate, baseplates, tree, bear, ATV, etc.

The Sheriff’s shack is set #4440, the Forest Police Station, from 2012.  It doesn’t look like there’s a lot of it left, but that was what clued me into the two smaller helicopters (they do both look the same to me).  Nice police station, with 1 every year, you’d think my city would b over policed, but 4440 is the only one I have.  I just liked the way the building looks.

Oops sorry, didn’t see the update.
  • alaskaguyalaskaguy Member Posts: 335
Looking at other police sets from that vintage...I see one of my mystery aircraft is from 4473. Looks like I am missing a fair amount of it. My other mystery is from 3658.  Well, that closes it out (:

I think I did pretty decently on this buy (:
  • M1J0EM1J0E Member Posts: 644

If you get all the pieces together to rebuild 4440, it fits nicely over a road baseplate.

Oh, good to know. Thanks!  Maybe by the time my kid gets old enough to play with it, I will have a house with room for a nice layout like you've got there (:

Kid will have to dedicate half of it to a police heliport though (:
  • M1J0EM1J0E Member Posts: 644
Thanks!  I had to take it all down though when I moved, & haven’t set it all up again!  I’d started to take it down, then remembered I’d better take a pic to remember how to set most of it up again!

I got a nice little surprise today from an odd lot I found on eBay.

Box front and backs for #462, #6901, and #6870.

They weren't mentioned in the listing or in any of its photos.

Just picked up 70592 for $24.99 at TJ Maxx, it was opened and retaped. Got it home, it was complete and had Laval Dimensions set inside. Not too bad.

I picked this up off of Facebook. The display screen is fantastic. Lots of inputs and controls. I think I'm going to figure out a way for it to play the Lego movie and Batman Lego movie depending on which button you press.
