It is not the same. The other hover horses use a dirt bike chassis as the base, this one does not have that part. Similar but slightly different.
  • LyichirLyichir Member Posts: 1,027
Ok so the 271602-1 Jet Horse: Is this the same as the hover-horses in the various sets? (Well, barring color differences.)
    Nope, it's smaller (sort of a mini-version).

Nope, smaller. The ones in the sets are around four studs longer from the front of their muzzle to the back of their jet engines, and have 47 pieces (plus two more in Axl's case) instead of just 34.

EDIT: missed the page break; didn't realize this had already been answered!

Ok, so a followup then: Other than colors, and Axl's horse, and uh, Lance's lance I guess... Are the hover-horses in the big sets all the same, buildwise? (Rather, if they differ, is it tiny exterior stuff, or is it more fundamental than that?)

Took a quick pic since both are "out for play" here currently.

No, they're not the same. 271602 is smaller than the full size ones in #70314, #70316 and #70325:

Foil 271602 on the left, Macy's bike from #70314 on the right as it's colour scheme resembles the foil pack the most.

Hah, nice. (What set is that dress from?)

But anyway, thank you. I will look into the full-sized hover-horses, rather than the mini version. Hopefully BrickLinking up a few will prove easy.

^Well spotted, they are indeed. Hadn't noticed but I said, they're out on the play table currently. They've been built and rebuilt by a couple of times this week by my sons (4y and 7y old). Honestly, I think they take great care of LEGO sets for kids that age.

I just quickly busted out my ghetto photography background (i.e. some A4 paper) and camera to make a quick pic. Trans bricks were already there because of recent PAB runs.

I'd like to see an episode where these guys get sent on some side mission. Maybe #5004390 joins them halfway through. It doesn't even have to be against the other team pack since those grunts get featured in every battle. These guys are cool deserve some more screen time imo!

For the longest time I was resistant to this theme but my son got excited about it and got some small ones. Fast forward to building a Fortrex with my kids and now we're all hooked. That thing is a ton of fun. My oldest girl is now trying to save to buy a set with Macy in it.

True. I passed on the one from the first wave at Target for ~$9 this summer since at that point none of them had expressed interest in it. O well.

New image of # 72006 Axl's Rolling Arsenal on the main Brickset page, also talk that the next wave might only appear in LEGO brand stores and John Lewis in the UK. I'm really hoping that is just a rumor and this theme gets two waves next year instead of getting the Chima/Ultra Agents treatment.

I always thought that there should have been a crossover season or episode of nexoknights in ninjago.  This cross promotion could have exposed the nexoknights theme to the  ninjago regulars since ninjago is more popular.

Brickset main page only mentions TRU US publishing official Juniors pics; #72003 images are in the BS database so therefore assumed safe to post:

Overall, I quite like the look of this wave. Seems like the transformation features that are often part of Nexo Knights sets are in this wave too. Wondering what role the evil eye on top has though; likely a major characteristic of the main bad guy as the baddies in this set also feature a similar eye as part of their torso print:

I particularly like the way the new spider element+round stud can be attached to and fired from a stud shooter. As a parent of two KFOLs I'm used to finding studs all over the house, these will be just that little bit easier to find. The gold shields ("Merlok Powers") are now confirmed as well.

Still no official Macy-with-hair though :(

So I haven't watched the series, but seeing the Rolling Arsenal set... does Jestro switch sides?!  Are they all teaming up against a new foe?  (that would actually be good story-telling, might actually influence my buying if they're not always the 'bad guys')

Yeah, looks like Jestro finally gets reformed (a development fans of the series have been waiting for for ages). Now Monstrox (formerly the Book of Monsters), who had previously been working through Jestro due to his lack of a body, seems to be taking over as the main villain in a new digital form.

I do need to catch up on the series. I watched the first season pretty regularly, but have fallen way behind.

Good to know - thanks for the quick recap!   I do like the evolution of the series.  it definitely seems like they're trying to expand the narrative for the characters.

it's just me or it sounds exactly like garmadon and the overlord?

it looks like the medieval theme has been dropped completely, and the dichotomy between the futuristic, technological good guys and the medieval, magic bad guys. it's kind of the new space theme now I guess.

Not exactly. The Overlord wasn’t relevant until the end of Season 2 of Ninjago, technically. Whereas Monstrox has always been there.

Also Monstrox doesn’t take over Jestro. It’s more or less just temptation leading him astray, rather than Monstrox completely taking him over.

I wouldn't say the medieval theme has been dropped completely. The vehicles we are getting are not much different from previous ones, with inspiration from medieval knights and weaponry. It's true that so far this year, we haven't gotten any location-based "castles" (which were few and far between earlier in the theme as well), and that the villains have adopted the kind of tech used by the heroes. But the Castle DNA is still front and center.

What's Chima-sounding about that? The first two years had a few sets that were "Chima-ish" in that they were vehicles based on the knights' animal heraldry, but this year most of the sets seem to stick to armor-based or weapon-based designs.

now I'm imagining, instead of a castle, a massive spaceship as the flagship set, with splitting and transformation features, like the ones we had in the 90's. I think it's been a while since we got one of those? well, if I except the ultimate batmobile, which made me think of those sets, but with wheels.

I rather like the series. And my oldest was initially into it. But this summer he moved away from any interest (much to my disappointment). I have a handful of unopened sets I had set aside for his birthday and Christmas that I'll probably build. I think it could have been a bit more on the medieval side of things and bit less techy. Having said that I think LEGO did a good job of making something unique and, for the most part, interesting. The 2nd year of sets was rather lackluster (but good color choices). We will see if it survives past this year but I have a feeling that it dies out within 12-18 months. It's no longer a featured series/set at big retailers and even at TRU.

Just noticed out of the four sets for next year two feature Aaron and none with Lance or Macy. Seems a bit odd. Perhaps some of the line got cut as it isn't a hot seller or held back for store exclusives?
  • the_creative_boxthe_creative_box Member Posts: 90
I like the 2018 wave. Speaking of actual builds there isn't anything really special, but they look OK. What makes me interested, really, are the faces of the baddies (in particular the ones with green eyes) and the recolour of that old castle helmet. Those pieces are bound to be useful for creating custom minifigures.

Even though it didn't get official pics on Brickset at the same time as all the others, someone on Eurobricks has already found Lance's Hover Jouster in a store: https://www.flickr.com/photos/27846102@N06/shares/rSnyc6

Macy is still absent from the sets we've seen so far, but it's worth noting that while Brickset only has six sets listed for Nexo Knights 2018 at the moment, there are SEVEN golden Merlok powers shown on the back of the new boxes. So there would seem to be at least one set yet to be announced — probably either a later release or a store exclusive. Hopefully it also includes Ava!

Oh right! Forgot about that one, so when Bumblepants said she wasn't in any of those four sets I didn't question it. I guess that means Ava is the only one of the main characters we haven't seen in a set yet. Sadly after spending most of the series as a side character I kind of have doubts that she'll be the main focus of a final unrevealed set, but I do hope she shows up in it anyway.

^c'mon guys. The pictures of the set containing Macy are on this very page :D

Ava's heavily involved with technology. Would be a great plot element if she gets infected. I mean, 72001 contains an infected Dennis. Maybe something goes utterly wrong in Knighton Castle...

I can't say I was too much of a fan of this last wave. I don't keep up with the story or have the slightest knowledge of what goes on with these sets but the largest deterrent in this past wave has been the overall color scheme of the bad guys. With that being said I really like the green and black colors of this next wave. Great improvement over 2017 Nexo Nights.
  • flordflord Member Posts: 797
The use of yellow, along with lime green and trans-orange from the last wave is just garish. The green and black and very nice, however, the yellow is still being used.

And where are the location-based toys? Why all-new vehicles all the time? Are they being leased?

Yellow? Apart from Axl's vehicle (which uses Flame Yellowish Orange), I don't see yellow as a dominant color on any of the knights' vehicles. They do all use Warm Gold this year, but ultimately I kind of prefer that to the solid Bright Orange of last year's vehicles (which felt more like a poor attempt to match the Tr. Fl. Reddish Orange).

And there's new vehicles every year for the same reason there's new sets in general every year—because new things sell. :P

I didn't see the point in changing the color scheme for the good guys after the 1st year, it was good, but maybe kids like builds with tons of saturated clashing colors?

that reminds me of a level design tip, you may have already experienced when playing, between a map where the use of colors and geometry is such that you understand immediately how you should apprehend it, and a map where the designer went so heavy on small details, that you have a hard time making sense of the whole, especially in a fast game.

True, but Nexo doesn't sell very well around where I live. After last Christmas,  retailers like TRU were blowing Year 1 Nexo out. They were already 40% off, and then it was BOGO 50% on top of that. I expect there will be even more of that this year. And we'll know just how well it sells if Nexo continues past Year 3.

Kids may not be too put off by the clashing colours, but parents like me sure are.

In my opinion, the color scheme changes in the second year hardly made them clash… in fact, I'd say that sticking to just one shade of blue, easing up on all the grey, and adding more of the knights' individual colors instead of just occasional stickers and accents helped make them feel a lot smoother and more balanced. The Bright Orange I was indifferent to, though, so I don't mind it being swapped with gold in the new wave.

Official #72001 box pic doing the rounds now:

I grew up on 80's SF cartoons and decades of RTS games so I'm partial towards futuristic tanks; hoping I can buy a few of these extra when they're on offer so the Royal Guard can have an artillery battalion. Lances will be replaces by extra spring-loaded shooters though.
