Anxiously waiting to hear back if someone No-Shows on an offer to pick up #8129. If they miss their pickup time (which is unlikely......), then I'll be the proud owner for $40!

I've lived this scenario several times over the last 12 months. ONE of them has to go my way, right!?

As tedious as it may be, sorting through lots like that is extremely enjoyable for me. I'd likely have called out for a few days too!

I don’t normally post here In case my fortune is another Bricksetters misfortune but I did get hold of the #7784 batmobile for less than £60 on eBay.
i took a chance as the photo was of a pile of bricks and no mention of completeness in description but it arrived today and all pieces accounted for.
I’m happy. Mrs LuLego is not happy.

Off of Craigslist, $50 for $600+ worth of Friends sets. Only two instructions, but #41101, #41015,#41095, #41130, #41133, #41109 and #41005 plus the usual unidentified smaller sets. The larger ones were either fully built or mostly assembled. Everything looks complete though.

So less than a week after posting my previous comment a few posts up, I happened into a rather large tote of bricks to sort through. As exciting as it is, and as focused as I am with putting things back together, the reality of the task hit me 3 hours into the bucket.

Add to that the pounds worth of cat hair and grime, it's lost a bit of its luster.

Just thought I'd pick the collective minds of the group to see what recommendations are for tackling such a box? Process in batches? Wash before sorting, or after to avoid ruining stickers? Best way to clean bulk?

I posted in the Lego Status thread, but I spent $50 for 42lbs of bricks. I've identified pieces for 51 sets so far, with a few more shuffled in, I'm sure. Low end BL value for those 51 sets is $1200. I don't necessarily plan on selling, but it's nice to know the investment could easily be returned with a few small sets.

    right little back story 1st.
on the 27/10/2017 i got a e-mail from Argos "thanks for being there!" "2 year anniversary" Here is a online Code for £5 off,
was quite happy with that and Flagged it so i did not forget the E-mail.
fast forward to today i get a "Happy Halloween!  Spin if you dare" e-meil that will give out free £5 £50 and £150 online codes. there was 1x £150 and 10x £50. and in the words of the e-mail a goulish amount of £5.
i got a £5 with a Minimum spend threshold of £15.  the other 2 dont have a Minimum spend threshold.

    so i pick #
41319 Friends Snow Resort Hot Chocolate Van that is RRP at £19.99 and is 20% off right now. add in the 2x £5 off and that take the price down to £5.99 that 70% off RRP!!!!!!

yes that right i got #41319 for £5.99 now that is a bargain.

Went to a TRU yesterday looking for the Bricktober minifigs, only had the Batman one which I grabbed. Was on my 3rd and final pass through the shelves when I noticed #70806 Castle Cavalry, box in great shape, seals intact. Scanned it anticipating laughing at them asking $35 or whatever for a $29, nearly 4 year old set, but it rang up at $14. A nice surprise and the only small TLM set I didn’t have.

I bought "Life of George" for  8.5 pounds (shipping included). I'm a gamer foremost, so I'm interested in this experiment LEGO had with the interactivity, despite it being a small set of basic bricks for the dead app.

I posted this earlier in the wrong thread. So i figured id copy it here since it fit better.

Just recently I was able to remove something off my regret list.

Last week I was walking through a smaller mom and pop store that isn't exactly known for selling Lego.  My wife wanted to go so I tagged along just to see if anything caught my eye while she was browsing.

I started walking down the Lego aisle and didn't notice anything significant right away.  Mostly current release sets.  I began to scan the top shelve, where they stock some of the larger over stock sets, and notice toward the end one of the boxes had a little more dust on it than the others.  I couldn't make out what set it was since the sale sticker was placed over the model number on the box. So I decide to pull it down just to see what it was.

It was the Milano Spaceship Rescue (76021).  I was shocked to see it.  I wasn't really collecting at the time it was released.  And it wasn't until later when I received the Milano 2.0 that I started looking at the original kit.  But by then it was retired and priced well beyond what I would be willing to pay.  And now it was in my hands for around the same price as the latest model.

Looks like this one got tucked away in their warehouse and forgotten until it became time to thin out their stock a little.  Needless to say I picked it up and its now in the building queue.

I also found a few more sets that had been retired that I thought about picking up as well.  But my better half reminded me how many unbuilt sets I had siting around, so I just stuck with the Milano for that trip.

So I can check that one off the "should have picked it up" list.

Seems Amazon.es wanted to quickly get rid of their #70908 Scuttler stock this morning. They priced them at 32,90 € - stock lasted for only a few minutes. Too little time to post as a deal but I managed to snag two of them:

Also quite chuffed with the #75148 Encounter on Jakku and #75171 Battle on Scarif BR-Leker in Oslo was discounting to 169 NOK and 159 NOK, meaning I paid about 34€  in total for both. Considering both sets would cost me two cents fewer than 150 € at admittedly ridiculous Belgian RRP/ LEGO shop prices that's a great find as well.

I don't really think it is much of a "brag" as much as it is a surprise.  I got a box of bulk Legos from an auction today - and it was immediately clear that they are from "my" vintage - given that they were largely red, yellow, white, blue and gray pieces and there were old-style windows and wheels. So that was cool (I really didn't know what would be in the box).

I found an LL928 brick, as well as some of the yellow translucent bricks from the Galaxy Explorer.  There were also a couple 2x1 printed Classic Space bricks. Sadly, even though I did just a super quick look at the box for now, it's clear that there isn't a complete LL928 build from the bricks in that box (none of the ramps, none of the yellow translucent plates, etc.).

There was also an old 4v train motor.  No idea, what, if anything, I can do with that...but I do like the heft.  Could put it in a MOC, simply to give it that hefty feeling - or maybe dress it up as "cargo" of some kind.

i bought from craigslist yesterday 160 pounds of legos and 3/4 of it was star wars!
I'd be disappointed if it were me - but I take it from your "!" you are excited about it - so congrats! (:

0,03$?!! That's less than a 1x1 round plate... Nice find. In the EU the chance of finding such a bargain is less than 0.

^^ 3 cents. That is just cazy. Is that a closing down sale?
The only better thing would be for them to pay you to take it away. :)

I would really like to know what process led to a set being priced at $0.03.

Sure, these stores are run adhering to obnoxious business rules and common sense has left large parts of Corporate America years ago but still - three whole cents? No takers for five cents? Someone thought the set would be unsellable for a dollar? Why not chuck it in the bin as surely the sale price label and its application cost three cents?

I got a 2018 puma/mountain lion. I ordered a leopard from a reputable reseller, but what I got is definitely the big cat from one of the 2018 sets. It's not a clone or a bootleg. I'm certain it's genuine LEGO.

In the picture below, it looks tan, but that's because of my rubbish camera. In real life, it's dark tan.

The 3 cents price is TRUs final markdown price. It’s pretty rare to find something get that low, but people have definitely reported it happening at TRUs from all across the U.S. It’s usually due to a return of something from a couple of years prior or someone finding one hidden in the back or somewhere else in the store.

I worked retail during the summers during college and we’d constantly have items like this. One summer, we had a manager that didn’t care to follow corporate’s guidelines on most things...specifically “once a clothing line is three seasons old, send any remaining stock back to the warehouse.” He instead would have someone just box them up and keep them in the back. It resulted in us employees finding plenty of items that were 9 months to about 3 years old for literally pennies. I got almost an entire new wardrobe for about $10.

  • A few months ago I got 3 of 75148 Encounter on Jakku from Amazon for $15 each. Just happened to see it in the Discounts at Amazon post and was lucky enough to order them just before the price went back to the already slightly discounted price of about $55.
That said I've never even heard of $0.03 sets at TRU before reading the previous posts.
I don't think it would matter what set it is at that price, I'd be picking it up.

No, that is the final reduction price in their system for an item that should have been gone long ago. It's usually just dumb luck to find something that cheap. No gift cards or codes required however.

It's a long process, but basically at TRU they update their available SKUs a few times a year.  Particularly with LEGO and toys with higher/faster replacement stock and with specific sections governed by plan-o-grams - very old sets (normally three years) are supposed to be pulled from the shelves.

There are exceptions to this - like certain Chima sets that can remain on TRU 'clearance' for almost indefinite amounts of time.  Some of that is determined by the set cost and level of stock across the stores.

Once a set number is removed from the system as an active product, the item scans as $0.03.  They have employees periodically pull such items off of the floor either in advance of the change, or they scour the store for such items.  Those toys are either sold off or donated.

(My daughter once got a pair of $0.03 stuffed teddy bears, much to my son's chagrin.)

If anyone recalls, there was a shipment of Research Institutes that hit TRUs in the northeast US 18 months after the set was retired.  Managers put them out on the floor, and they all scanned at $0.03. (I got three of them at a local TRU.)

Went to my brother's house yesterday to do some car work.  He tells me that a friend of his gave him a big box full of old toys.  Then he hands me an #8847 and says enjoy.  He also let me pick a couple of old G.I. Joe ARAH figures(of course I grab the Baroness and Storm Shadow) to have.  The Dragster was still in the box(which was in very bad shape), but was all there.  Very cool.

I got a used 8446 for $27. Beat out the 2nd highest bidder (who tried to snipe me) by 50 cents (:

I am 20 steps in and no missing pieces so far. I thought these things would come with a  parts list...but nope (I know, I could probably find one on-line).  It seems I have to build it to see if it is missing anything...which is fine, I've never built a Technic model before - it's interesting.

Assuming I get it built, I will then have to unbuild, put it in the box and wait 8-9 years (at least) before giving it to my kid (:

I was perusing a blog/editorial site earlier today and they run kinja deals...

A single entry was a picture of the Saturn V with a link to Amazon that said "It's back..." and what do you know? Amazon was selling it for normal price. I ordered it so fast:-).

Should be here in two days because of Prime and I was so excited. Been trying to get it since the release!!

Really annoying that TRU Germany never has any such deals. Best "clearance" deals you get might be 60% off.

As over here you don't "scan" prices yourself there are always just the sticker prices. And even if something would show up at such a ridiculously low amount (or even close) at the register, the cashier would get the store manager and dismiss the price.

I once found a 129.99 Euro set that showed a 14.99 price at the register. Cashier immediately called the manager who said such a price obviously has to be an error, refused to sell me the item at that price and instructed the cashier to update the database.

No chance ever that a Lego set (even a polybag or 3.99 Euro mini-set) would be sold for 0.03 Euro over here.
